Should we all measure our glucose levels?

  • Every cell in our body needs energy to run. And one of the main ways we provide this energy is through glucose. We get most of it from the carbohydrate-containing foods we eat. The level of glucose in our blood fluctuates throughout the day and that is normal for all of us.
However, recent studies have shown that repeated, excessive peaks and dips in glucose can overwhelm our body’s natural response mechanisms.
This is thought to cause excess inflammation after eating, which studies further link to increased risk of cardiometabolic diseases and cancers.
But what happens during a glucose spike and how can we limit these in order to contribute to preventing the inflammation from our bodies and hence prevent onset of diseases?

Great video! People are freaking out of normal and healthy glucose spikes in the blood. It is important that we point out when someone should be worried.

Avoid getting too much sugar into your body :) There is only so much storage for glucose in your muscles and some other part, I forgot its name, after which it will turn into adipose tissue. If I'm not mistaken is fine to have carbs with protein if you're into bodybuilding, since you need protein for muscle development and carbs for energy. Other than that, just stick to reason in your diet: diversity, moderation, and generally healthy foods. No sugars in the morning or before going to bed, no heavy foods 2h prior to sleeping, or was it 3? :)) Like give your body a break from heavy-duty eating, right?
I do feel like all this technology tends to make living healthy very complicated. I really don't want to end up monitoring everything about my health, obsessing over it just to be "scientifically optimal/healthy". Do you think we can end up simplifying everything? Like all the nutritional advice and recommendations? I'm talking as a scientific community, not you in particular :)) A lot of terms, a lot of things to watch out for. Maybe there can be some sort of a poster or map of these explanations or chain reactions ;)
