      That's how I'm feeling with this title. I grew up with the pokemon games in the late 90s/early 00s, and the gym battles/league champion formula grew old on me, or maybe *I* outgrew it in some ways. either way, coming back to play a pokemon game like this is an incredible change, ngl. Won't say better, but it's a very welcomed alternative.
      I like that the Legends games are looking to follow a formula of your character getting isekai'd into the past. It really changes up the formula, where you are now learning the history/legends of these regions first-hand, by exploring it all yourself. If they keep this series running concurrently with the "traditional" pokemon games, I'm all for it! Do it for all the regions with this formula!

    Pokémon Legends Arceus was the boldest step Gamefreak ever took in my opinion. A live action main series pokémon game was something that caught me completely off guard.
    After my bland experience with SWSH, the DLC expansions, and BDSP I started to think pokémon would never be expressive with it's creative ideas and innovative risks they'd put out ever again (which often carries immense rewards).
    So imagine my surprise when Legends Arceus was released and seeing it's connection with the ancient land of Sinnoh as well as being fully immersed into the world of live action once again.

      @Selet101 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to burst your bubble a little with it, but if you're chosing between the two brothers, the original dragon is already gone.
      The original dragon only existed before the brothers started arguing. Kyurem, Reshiram and Zekrom split apart when their arguments basically got the point of starting a war between the two.
      I'd like a game with the original dragon myself as well though for sure. and probably more likely than being during the time period of the brother's war.
      Something from known history doesn't necessarily need to be the plot of the story. PLA was based around how Spear Pillar came to be pretty much. We knew nothing about that in the past beyond it being an ancient ruin. Now we actually know what happened and why.
      I'd rather they build more lore and history for the world rather than just build upon what we already know happened in the past.

Going to school everyone had the game boys with red and blue version, everyone had base set cards and brought them to school, eventually they banned Pokémon in all schools but we still brought them to school and hooked up the link cables on the play ground at recess. PLA broke the mold for Pokemon in a way that broke age barriers more than anything else.
    It was a breath of fresh air for the series. People who haven't picked up a pokemon game in over a decade heard about the game, and got excited about it. Some that haven't played a pokemon game in close to 20 years were getting hyped over it.
    It brought a lot of attention back to the pokemon series in general. I think PLA actually got more attention than game freak ever expected. PLA absolutely blew the hell up.
    I know people anywhere from being a young kid like my niece and nephew, to people over 60 loving the game.
    I myself haven't completed a pokemon game since BW2 came out. I've played all of them, i just couldn't get through the whole games without being bored. I eventually got through SW/SH, and the end game is so much more fun than the story line, but to this day i've still never completed Alola or Kalos. I can't even get through S/V ffs. I got bored around 6 or so gyms in and about half of the other trials. Probably will go back and get to the end game for S/V eventually, it's just dragging on at this point for me.
    I saw all the hype, trailers and such on PLA, and had a lot of hype for it myself. But i had also had similar hype to all the previous pokemon games. So i was hyped, but not expecting much to be delivered.
    That low expectation held through the basically hour long tutorial that i almost didn't even make it through without falling asleep. But the second that tutorial ended and we had basically free access to the map.... ooooh boy. I didn't even get to the crimson mirelands for like 20 hours. I was having so much fun just exploring everywhere and capturing everything i could see. I didn't even get Wyrdeer for like the first 10 hours, then felt like crying cause of how fast he was and how easy he was to get. Made traveling so much better.
    I think the thing that hooked me into the game the most, and made my eyes shine with childhood wonder for a pokemon game for the first time in 10 years or so was seeing that flying Gyarados. I think i sat there for like 30 minutes trying to catch the damn thing before i finally got it. It made me hop out of my chair and cheer, something i haven't done for any game in years that i can remember.
    Then there was the fact that this game did not hold your hand at all. That Alpha rapidash right outside Jubilife absolutely destroyed me at the start. I thought it'd be like lv 15-20 or so at best, so went in confident... only to be facing a lv 40 fucking rapidash with level 10-15 pokemon. I absolutely loved that!
    This game single handedly got me hyped for video games again for the first time in quite a while. Sure i find games i enjoy and will play for 10-15 hours here and there. but PLA i blasted through like 80 hours in less than a week. And was STILL excited every time i went out on the map to look for something.
    Right now i have little to no hope for the main line story to draw me into the franchise anymore. i'll likely still get them and try em out just for fun, but any future legends games, i am going to be hyped and hopping in my chair waiting for them the second they're announced. 100% the best pokemon game i've ever played. Previously held by GSC/HGSS as johto was my favorite region. Now completely dominated by PLA, and until the next Legends game, it will very likely stay at the top.
    I still pop PLA in to play and can lose 5 or 6 hours of my day if i'm not paying attention. and it's pretty much just of me exploring the game. Basically nothing else. I have pokedex stuff i could complete, but i just love exploring the game and sniping pokemon with jet balls.

    It was a great starting point, but this formula can definitely be better defined in future entries if they build upon this base. A bigger variety of wild pokemon behaviours is what I want to see in future, rather than them all just hanging around aimlessly until you stroll by. With a system more powerful than the Switch, I’d also like to see the environments be made a little less barren to make the world feel more alive.

    0:06 Time to Old Man Rant. Sit down kids, hope you enjoy this.
    Well, to start, since I was there, there was a lot of hype. Like, the whole nation of the United States was basically in a feverish Pokemon craze. And I don't mean a hype that passed soon. I mean actual, genuine, at-least-a-year-long hype. Also since it was the 90's, we as kids were actually having fun. There wasn't anything to ruin it either. None of us were jaded or really depressed at all. Being edgy back then was actually considered being cool and not "cringeworthy". And the cartoons of the era were at their peak. Everything was happy and we had hope every day. We also had seasons that were actual seasons and holidays that felt like holidays. There were still passing fads and all like Pogs and Beenie Babies and Furbies and whatnot but pretty much near everything was quality after quality after quality after quality. We also had less controversies back then, at least, that we cared about at that age. At most the negativity you'd find daily prolly just came from bullying in school and women still not being 100% respected as equals like they're supposed to be and as the standard we have nowadays. Yeah, believe it or not we still had sexism back then. Horrible. Not that it doesn't still exist now, nor have I not seen a resurgence in the ignorance on it. But I digress. The point being is, you really should have been born around then, hell, even born in the late 80's then become sentient during the 90's because it was a really positive-feeling decade. I honestly feel bad that you weren't. Hell, imagine a time when the internet didn't exist? I know I don't have to, I lived through it becoming a thing. We had America Online and Roadrunner Broadband connections. We had cassette tapes, we had floppy discs, we had the first computers. We had computers being in schools actually being a new concept. We watched computers actually evolve into what they are today. Y'all missed something special. Y'all missed Batman: The Animated Series. Y'all missed the Nintendo 64 being a thing. Heck, even the Playstation 2, the old console wars of the era. When I say that the 90's was a magical time, I wholeheartedly mean it. As far as I can see, it wasn't fair to you that you were born past the 2000's. I know you had your own magic, your own special things that you hold dear to your hearts but mine bleeds in sympathy for you all for not being born during my day. I even think that the values and life lessons you learned during your childhood are completely different than what I was taught during mine. My generation was taught to never give up on anything, to go down with the metaphorical sinking ship out of sheer spite of our destiny. We were taught that when faced with death, one should immediately punch Death in the face, take his scythe and teach him a lesson. Whereas nowadays, I see people giving up left and right. I see people, even ME, accepting that they'd rather be dead than exist further. It's messed up. But yeah, that was kinda the mental back then. It was nice. Far better than what we have right now, to be honest.

    Legends Arceus is a great game. There are only three things that I don´t really like in Legends arceus:
    1- You can barely interact with your pokemon after you catch them. Since the game doesn´t have any kind of mechanic to interact with them like pokemon refresh or pokemon camp, the only thing you can do with your pokemon outside of having battles is just stare at them.
    2- I get that the tasks of the pokedex were something new and engaging content but having to catch multiple of the same pokemon makes every individual pokemon so meaningless. It´s hard to connect with your team because of this.
    I like when the decision to catch a pokemon for your team actually matters and that barely can happen in legends arceus when you have to catch 25 of the same pokemon. That combined with the previous point makes legends arceus one of the games were the connection to your team is very low for the most part.
    3- There´s no sense of urgency for the player regarding the story. Don´t get me wrong, the game definitely has an issue to solve in the story, but the semi-open world nature of the game and the tasks of the pokedex tend to make you get distracted from that story progression and you can end up not reaching the next point of the story in a really long time while doing other things. This is a problem with most of open world and semi-open world games in general though. The world can be ending but you can literally spend the next two weeks doing other small missions before reaching the next point for story progression. I guess that what I mean by this is that having a bit more linear stories isn´t always a bad thing.

    • @TheDavisWIN
      @TheDavisWIN  ปีที่แล้ว

      You make very good points!
      1 and 2, because of how many pokemon you have to catch, I didn’t feel very connected with the ones I caught and would immediately replace them if I found the same pokemon with a higher level.
      3, due to the sort of open world nature, I was more interested in exploring than completing the story line.

    Legend Arcues is my fav Pokémon game and I hope they do more legends games one day and I see it as them testing the waters of open world games or somewhat open world, I don’t play games for the quality of textures it also why I don’t mind sword and shield since we’ll take a guess while liking sword and shield is controversial but I don’t play for quality I’ve played games where after I finished it and enjoyed it but later found ppl hating on it because of textures I didn’t even notice when playing and don’t read me wrong I’d still enjoy the game disregarding others opinions on it or how it looks but idk I just want more legends games

    @TheDavisWIN I want there to be a Legends: Arceus sequel that has the Pokémon Professor Laventon make a Time Machine that is supposed to return the player character to their own time. However, in a way I haven’t yet made up the other characters besides the player (Kamado, Laventon, Cyllene, Volo, Ginter, Zisu, etc) meet their descendants (Professor Rowan, Leon and Hop, Cyrus, Cynthia, Volkner, Flint, etc). That is, of course, assuming these characters actually are related. The major conflict in the story is with Team Galactic, that seeks to journey to the past when they believe there was no “harmful” emotion and hence, a perfect world, with the intention of replacing the energy of the Legends: Arceus characters with their own energy.

    • @TheDavisWIN
      @TheDavisWIN  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oooh that sounds interesting, what if we made team galactic find a way to the past instead so that phenomenon does happen and it’s up to the player to stop them and the time machine team galactic uses is how the player can go back to their own time?

And while I struggled in a lot of aspects, it was a wonderful experience. I loved the lore and the history. A minor thing I enjoyed was the sound that alerted you there was a Shiny near by.

    Pokemon Legends Arceus would have been perfect if they expanded move pools and brought back held items and abilities.
    It did so much right.
    Move mastery is a balanced mechanic that adds more depth and strategy to battling. Version exclusives are a cheap cashgrab and trade evolutions make a game age horribly years from now when no one is playing them and the online servers shut down. Removing them was long overdue and is probably my favorite change. Being able to swap moves at any time is a fantastic. Locking the move reminder behind ultra rare items and being near the end of the game was idiotic and pointless. Pokemon learning new movies and leveling up all at once without having to mash A a trillion times after every exp gain was a no brainer change. Swapping the frozen status effect with frostbite makes it so much less annoying and more balanced, same with sleep being drowsy. The catching mechanics and overworld were massive improvements as well that make going back to older games painfully slow and tedious.

    to answer the very first thing you said in this video, what the world was like before pokemon...
    it was basically the same as it is today, except the internet was only something they had at offices for sending spreadsheets to each other.
    no cell phones, we had to either use payphones or ask the front desk to use their phone, but aside from that, it was largely the same as now.
    culturally, a lot less politically correct than today, and bullying in schools was significantly more aggressive.
    in spite of the amazing technological and social progress that's taken place, the last 30 years have been more culturally same-y than any 30 year time period since the industrial revolution, in my opinion.
    like if you showed a meme to someone from 1995, as long as it's not about a current event, they would 100% understand and relate to the contents of the meme, once they got over the existence of your cellphone.
