    Great recipe!!! FYI, when your pet has fleas, wetting them down first with plain water gives the fleas time to escape. ALWAYS APPLY SOAP FIRST (traps the fleas so you can drown them!), THEN water. Also, they'll get cold during that 10 minute wait time unless you cover them with a warm, wet cloth. Towels are generally too heavy; you can use fleece, old dish towels, or cloth diapers (which absorb water amazingly well - I use them on my hair, too!) You can also cut up an old sheet, pillowcase t shirt, curtains, etc (depending on the animal's size, of course).
    If you're a homeowner, applying beneficial nematodes to your property annually isn't expensive and WORKS. We've also had pretty good results with FleaTreats (as long as all the animals eat them twice/day). We've got 6 cats, 2 dogs and are surrounded by wooded lots (and wildlife from squirrels to coyotes) on two sides. We also use diatomaceous earth (must be food grade - NOT from pool store).

    • @vntrgirl
      @vntrgirl 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was really on the fence about the nematodes... .but we get a tick every year, and this year, fleas and mosquitos are out of control every year, in our little backyard.

    • @fig4159
      @fig4159 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vntrgirl May I ask why? They get fire ants, too (if you have them). We've lived here since 2001, have wooded lots on 2 sides of our house, and of all our dogs over the years, only one had a tick, once - and that was from the dog park.

    • @vntrgirl
      @vntrgirl 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @fig4159 Oh, wow!!!! We have leaves that pool in the yard and it takes a good month and a half to clear them as the steadily fall, I just assumed it was the leaf litter that caused the ticks to be in the yard. I just switched them to the diy flea and tick drops (from this channel), and I'm not great about putting it on 2x a week, so maybe they just need me to do that during peak months. The mosquitos are always bad. There is standing water down the hill from us, I assume it's that. The fleas are new this year! I only saw 2 adults, 1 on each dog and some flea dirt or eggs on my longer haired pup. Everyone had a bath with a hommade soap, and so far, so good. I wasn't sure if the nematodes would actually work. There are mixed reviews, and then I think I got confused on which ones to buy, so I put it on the back burner.

    • @fig4159
      @fig4159 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@vntrgirl Not that I'm not advertising for them, but we've been getting our nematodes (combo packs, which one(s) are dependent on the bugs near you!) @ Arbico Organics for about 15 years. If you aren't sure what you need, they're very helpful and actually ANSWER the phone (and emails)!

      Treat your rugs, floors, cracks, crevices & corners with a light dusting /application of diatomaceous earth! I live on the West Coast of CA it's horrendous during flea season here & we have to fight it from a few different angles all Summer long + the rains during Winter brings the sand fleas out of the ground.. when it's wet outside, they come up out of the sand & hop all over the sidewalk next to our lawns where they normally burrow beneath the grass

    Congratulations on your TH-cam award. I noticed it in the bookshelf behind you. You definitely deserve it! You have had some great advice on your channel. I just need some help. I own cats(outside) and when I take my dog (6 months old) out she just loves to eat cat feces. I try to keep her away from it but it’s like she has a radar for what I can’t see. I don’t want her to get sick. She is an inside pet. Help please? Thank y’all for your time and patience. God Bless you and I love your videos. I am totally in agreement with homeopathic remedies. I put apple cider vinegar on his paw to lick & feed him baby food when he gets picky abt eating. I’ve given him some honey too & mixed eucalyptus oil w/ vitamin e oil & massaged downward on his neck glands to try to drain his ears a little. I am going to incorporate the lavender oil into the regimen now. A decongestant..,, WHO KNEW?😂😂😂😂😂😂😍

    Your videos are informative, educational and your calm voice is rather soothing. I know you can bathe cats. I have fostered about 25 in the last year and I have had to bathe many of them. However, my own cat, "Mookie Du" ( aka The Blue Moose) shredded my arms, tore the shower curtain down, climbed my bathroom cabinets, and tore a shelf out of the wall. That was 2 years ago and he was 6 months old at the time. That was my only attempt at bathing him for obvious reasons. He is not aggressive just terrified of baths. He desperately needs a bath due to fleas. And I still have nightmares about the last attempt. What can I do? Please help me help him. 🙏

    When making soaps, (with lye), vinegar is kept nearby to stop lye burns. I realize you're not using lye, but vinegar also cuts down on lather. Could it not work better by making the shampoo without the apple cider vinegar, and use it as a pour over when rinsing the dog, it would get all the soap off. Not a criticism, just wondering.

    My little terrier is long haired. Ive found he doesnt pick up fleas as long as I shave around his bottom end, under his tail, the base of it and back legs. It doesnt seem to matter about the rest. If I find one, its on the bottom when he's over due a shave. Apple Cider Vinegar, coconut oil and a flea comb seems to do the trick. I don't think she knows to this day (hihi) kids now adults, had a laugh about it years later.

    Im currently watching everything about natural care. A lady mentioned wondercide...i looked it up and a video is posted of a man spraying it directly on a flea to no avail. Yikes.
    Im not going to quit! I have found natural homemade deodorant and toothpaste that actually WORK better than store brand. When i was breastfeeding my youngest i was so upset when a nurse introduced me to lanolin. I felt she wasnt taking my pain seriously and as if she was being rude.
    NOPE. IT WORKED!!! I couldn't believe it actually worked. My mind was blown because i was in a lot of pain nursing my baby crocodile 😊
    Well i know a competitor could be sabatoging wondercides success. Im positive one day my dogs will be natural dogs and chemical free. It makes no sense for the dog to be the only one in the family not enjoying minimal toxicity.
    Anway, ive been blessed as a little girl to have been around animals. Its sad more kids don't have exposure to nature like they used to. Ive seen birth, matting , hunting, feral vs domestication, social dynamic, mother animal bonding and nurturing...male vs female behavior patterns and am still learning training. Unfortunately ive also learn about flea infestation...its a living nightmare 😂. My baby will be on the chemical stuff for now but ill never stop researching and looking for a natural solution for her and future dog babys.
    Im positive my solution is out there.. I just have to never give up researching and i do plan on giving wondercide a chance when i save a bit of money just for experimenting.
    Due to personal experience i wont tolerate fleas or ticks. Those things multiply rapidly and can get out of control quite fast. Ewwe. lol

    One question - is no shampoo used - is this for flea repellant only?
    NB :
    Margaret Roberts - well known naturalist in SA - check her out - her daughter runs herbal biz now as MR has sadly passed... she however recommended for skin ailments - ideal natural dip :
    6 large pungent smelling Geranium leaves & a mug of Orange & dark orange Marigold flower heads put into a mortar & pistle & mulched til mushy - add litre boiling water to this concoction...leave overnight or longer... sieve mixture - draining all plant pieces off & bottle liquid... ideal dog dip!

      @@Zanniroxwell Whether or not a pyrethrin or pyrethroid product is toxic depends on the animal species involved, as well as the concentration, synergists and carriers used in the product. The use of pyrethrins/pyrethroids is very safe in dogs; however, cats and fish are very sensitive to pyrethrins/pyrethroids. I don't use it.

      Mystical One I didn’t see him put the shampoo on his head area. Just wondering if it might burn the dogs eyes. Sorry, My son just gave me his 7 year old Bishon and I usually take him to a groomer for his baths, not very experienced dog owner yet. But I want to start bathing him myself and using this recipe for his itching and possible fleas.

      I noticed he bathed his dog like i do. I try to avoid the head area because of the eyes and ears. Typically my dogs heads dont get dirty. My baby girl ( 12 weeks later this month) managed to get poo on her ears and her head. You cant see it ( but her momma has an outstanding memory lol). Ill most likely use my hand to put a little washing on that area but i doubt ill lather up her face.
      Its really a personal preference...i dont really lather my dogs faces. A clothe and light scrubbing usually my preference...i go to town on the rest of the body. I like a clean dog. Id clean my dogs more often if their species werent dried out by it. I currently bathe my puppy (as needed) or a few times a month and when shes grown and not as apt to step in her own poo and pee...once a month.
      Id wash everyday if i could but that be over washing lol
      She gets petted a lot. I wonder if i should tell people? 😂 Im not gonna rat my baby out. She is only 11 weeks people should assume shes not on her a game yet lol

      This is a good question though...will probably help someone thinking the same thing. I assume that his attention was divided so he didnt do the face because ofvhaving to deal with a camera there. But he might just bathe his dogs like i do. I think most people lather the dogs faces. I probably never will unless i someday get a white dog.

    A few questions. Could I use the same EO's you use in the flea spray (Cedarwood, Lemon (I have orange) and Lavender). I also make my own soap. Would I be able to incorporate these EO's into a batch of soap. I don't have Neem Oil, however I have neem powder. Could I use my home made liquid soap rather than castile soap. A vet many many years ago to rub flea shampoo in front of ears first to stop the fleas escaping into the ears. Sounds feasible? Your take? Is dogs pH requirements the same a humans?

    I would really love to see an outside dog...perhaps a hunting or guard dog...using a natural product...in the woods or near..with no fleas or ticks in his coat and beautiful skin...
    That would make a believer out of me 😊
    Any product that can protect a dog living outside by woods and trees all summer long...is a product id use.
    Having seen flea infestations even a single flea i just cannot tolerate 😂 i will start asking (politely of course) people who have beautiful dogs...if they are natural ans if so.. What their program is.
    I also dont want fleas biting my children

      There are many herbal oils that bugs despise. My son's dog in Florida doesn't have fleas or ticks.
      They aren't even applied to the dog. The yellow lab wears a bandana infused with oils. He can't ingest any of it. He had a bit of infestation when I first tried it. Bug free and all we do is change his bandana with fresh oils applied to it.

    • @VeterinarySecrets

      Rosemary is not really anti-histamine like, so not the best alternate. The Tea Tree is not really anti-flea, so not a good alternate as well
