I have the 15 pro max and it is super solid but the noise really gets to me sometimes. I run with this rule, if it's in the summer, then iphone for vlogging. No need for ND Filters and all that. Indoor though or winter time, run with my Canon as much as possible. But at the end of the day, whatever is easiest will win and the iPhone does that well. I don't want to miss a moment on a travel vlog because I was setting exposure....I also still enjoy buttery smooth shots.
For the average person, really, the newer model iPhones are all that’s needed for incredible results. Particularly if they learn its features and build some post processing skills. I remember when we shot film and crossed our fingers we got two or three good ones …
well thanks I give up on videography thanks to you. Ive done such big investments on camera and camera gears but clients arent calling anymore. everyone has an Iphone now and now I see why they dont need our services anymore.
I honestly was about to buy my first camera (I have a very old moblie Honor phone), but these days I'm not sure if I really need to spend thousands of dollars on professional camera just to make my photo/video a bit better than iPhone... It's stupid.. 80% of people watch youtube, use insta on mobile devices. only 2% of all those people will pixel peep and try to see difference... Do we really need to spend thousands of dollars for that 2%? No way man
@@plantscreatives dedicated cameras are way better than any phone and will continue to be due to the physics of the lens and sensor. these ragebait youtubers will never hhow what breaks cellphone cameras images and will instead show the same settings were cellphones can compete when viewed in small screens ( notice he shows a small version of the images). the problem with this is that perception does matter and clients have heard this overtold story. in their eyes they now have a cinema camera on their pocket and are willing to never pay a profesional or pay them way less than they deserve. youtubers like these are fking up profesionals so they can have more views and its working.
most users are unaware of DPI. Typical mobiles are 72 DPI and DSLR/Mirrorless are 300dpi. When zoomed it you will see the difference. If you only view photos and video on mobile or tablets, then anything after iphone 4 is good enough. However, look review photos on a 70" display, then iPhone 15 photos looks pretty blocky (this is where photos from good lens and DSLR/Mirrors shines). Mobile phone can never be great, unless they increase sensor and lens size (then its no longer a phone anymore).
I enjoyed the comparison. As an iPhone 15 Pro Max user, I have been amazed with the quality of both still shots and videos. May I offer you a YT tip? The “music” playing while you’re talking makes it harder to understand you (even on an iPhone 15 Pro Max😊). It’s similar to the noise in the images. May I suggest you kill the music except for intros and transitions? Thanks!
My guess is that the crop on the iPhone app is due to the video stabilization feature. Some phones crop the video to have a "wiggle room" on the edges for stabilizing the shot
Yeah, I’ve come to that conclusion as well. On the BlackMagic camera app you have 3 different strengths of stabilizing and I guess when filming that day it was set to Normal stabilizing, hence a lower crop compared to the iPhone built in stabilization.
could it be the iphone does not have a better lenses but has a LIVE auto correct function? So what we see on the iphone is also not completely real but calculated animation corrected on top of the real photo? 😮
It's a shame there is no way to get raw data out of the iPhone sensor. And what I mean by that, is raw data BEFORE the sharpening process. It feels like the iPhone sharpens the image as part of the sensor pipeline. It gives an artificial look the reminds me of gopros or other cheap action cameras. It's too bad both sharpness and noise reduction aren't more configurable on the iPhone. I do like your DaVinci Resolve trick though!
Would be great to have that option! Dunno if it sharpens it in the pipeline, or if it comes down to the sensor size, just like the drones and action cameras you mention. I’d love to see a bigger sensor on future iPhones. I think it’s coming, even though the phones will get a bit bulkier ;) Glad you liked my DaVinci trick! Happy halloween! 🎃 💀👻
I am a beginner researching about smartphone filmmaking using the iPhone 15 ProMax (smartphone lenses 1.33x & 1.55x). I watched tutorial videos covering the iPhone 15 ProMax use with the filmic pro app (now includes ProRes Apple Log). Have you tested 1.33x and/or 1.55x lenses on the iPhone 15 ProMax using Filmic Pro or the Blackmagic camera app? What are your thoughts in the results post production or in general relating to the topic discussed in this video as far as digital noise goes?
I haven't tried those lenses. As far as digital noise goes, you need to film in ProRes to have the cleanest image possible, and using the plugin Texture Pop found in DaVinci Resolve works really well to get a more cinematic look :)
This is extreme pixel peeping. Nothing translates to real world experience. 90% people watching videos on mobiles so they dont see any noise even if u try hard.
Don’t get me wrong, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is insanely good! However, there is a clear difference, pixel peeping or not. I’ve been working on how to “fix” this and I believe I’ve found a great way in improving the image quality on the iPhone. Will post results next week ;)
In most cases it’s true. However, I’ve never taken as many amazing photos and videos as I’ve done this year using the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s fantastic to have this quality available straight from my pocket. However, I wouldn’t use it for anything professional ;)
true and not true. GH6 is better, indeed, but... who cares? iphone is for many, to take a memory from a family event, vacation, wedding, etc etc. GH5/6 are pro , you could make a movie with them. But, then , the movie would be viewed probably on the phone or tablet, in small number of cases on large tv. Will anybody zoom in to see particular pixel ? I doubt. Will anybody care about the noise on the water? Most don't even know what we are talking about. Scientific footage, where quality is needed might be done with pro camera, both stills and video, but YT vloging or anything else.... most will not even notice. Sound might be more important.
Completely agree with everything you say. As there are many videos out there claiming you can’t see the difference between a cinema camera and the iPhone, I wanted to show that there is a clear difference, even when watching it on a phone ;)

Yeah, I think you’re right! Would be great to get RAW video as well, no auto correction. Although, it’s a great camera/phone ;)
Thank you so much for this super useful information. Have an awesome day!😁
i couldn't differ if i didn't look at reflection on your glasses

I could swear all these footage was shot with an iPhone. Maybe I’m just not a fan of the lumix colors.

I see yellow spots on your face in the studio. At first I thought that Im hallucinating but no) something is wrong with your videograding)
DSLR AND MIRRORLESS FOR 5 MORE YEARS!
I will save my hard earned money and keep filming with my phone.
Bro, you need to turn off thr 'stabilize video' in settings to get the widest view possible
I know, but it still crops more than the Blackmagic app when stabilizing is active on both apps…
@@PaulHeimlund Why 😭
Lemme ask it to the Apple support community.
The lumix isn’t a “pro” camera. It’s not even a “prosumer” camera.

they have especially on sony phones that have 4k screen display
99% of people wouldn't tell the difference.
It really depends how the photos are being viewed. If you’re printing large format vs viewing on phone.
Exactly man
I want relationship between canon 2000D and iPhone 15 pro max
Don’t even try one photo at night? Lol
Now try iphone in football match😂
Yeah😂
nice video mate. thx
Is the crop because of image stabilation?
Yes ;)
Yay new video.😊
I can see the camera in your sunglasses on a few of the shots
Even four third sensor cameras beat expensive iphone camera quality
