Birds look fantastic. Enjoyed the update. I would say a champion has been a winner for multiple seasons. Seems like there are so many guys in and then out of the sport within 5 years, so a guy who wins 5 years in a row is a champion in my book.
I think you're right... life gets in the way... having been so close to gettingout myself I can relate... We all do our best with the birds and first and foremost is to enjoy them and to treat them like athletes and hope the hard work pays off down the road.
Great video Sil.. Lots of babies in the nest 👍.. The breeders look nice and healthy too. Good pairings happening for sure. Gotta throw in the Gulf Homing Club (GHC) in Florida and the Fernando Valley Club (FVC) in SoCal as some of the bigger combines. Also, the Bay Cities Combine out here in NorCal is close in that category as well. And, they fly one of the toughest courses in the country while flying from the east out of Nevada..
@@manueljuarez1489 Nice to "meet" you sir! I'm so glad for your comment! It would be an honor to interview you so that you can give some insight to the many flyers out there and myself so we can learn a bit about you, your birds, and your methods. And congratulations on the excellent job you've been doing racing so well year after year. You are a true Champion. I don't want to expose your personal information so if you could send me a brief email to maydisloft@gmail.com I would love to further communicate with you. Thank you.
Thanks buddy! Agreed, it takes time and consistency to get there... in the meantime we just enjoy the birds and racing to the best of our abilities and hope with time our work pays off.
I agree champion loft should be consistent every week in multiple seasons, thats a serious breeding line up of quality stuff, good luck this season! Next time im out in Long branch would love to come check out your lofts
Agreed. Absolutely buddy, let me know, would love to show my C class loft 😆 🤣 and my birds but it's nothing like your A class loft, yours is really nice! Some day I'll improve (upgrade to a new location?) on it but for now it works.
I feel that 5 years in the top of the combine would make you a champion flyer!!!! I feel that you can separate old birds and young birds!!! I fly in the IMOI club and the Kansas City Combine. I feel I fly against some of the best in the nation!!! Not a Champion myself yet, but I fly against some of the best in the nation!!!!!
Definitely YB and OB are different beasts to master. And then we have guys that may not win 1st place every year but they're consistently on top spots. Them too are champions. I think winning the races is king but 2nd to 10th spot or even 5% consistently is worthy of merit.
It comes down to # lofts and birdage. Where are the most lofts/birds in club and combine racing? At one time, California combines could be up on that list. Those days are long gone. Bay Cities Combine used to be pretty big. Down south, FVC, which flies with the SOCAL CONCOURSE, is small at 26 lofts with 1100 birds at the start of YB; the last race was 16 lofts with 178 pigeons. Those flying an east course in California have pretty brutal conditions, even with small birdage they have some great birds but the competition is not there. You guys flying in the CJC, Greater Chicago Combine 1500+birds 50 lofts, Florida has a couple big combines, South West Florida Combine I think is a little larger than Greater Tampa Bay Combine. As you know I am flying out of area birds, I have five wildcard entries or lofts I picked, two I picked in part because they fly in large competition. That is one of the reasons birds are imported. Do you want 1st place out of 150 birds or 1st place out of 10,000? It is much easier to be a "champion" and win in a club-size combine (like mine). Your birds look great!
Awesome information, thanks Tom, really enjoyed your comment. I'm very lucky to be racing in a large Combine, just got to keep improving the bloodlines and the breeding to see if if my birds can get to the top some day. The thing is that a Champion Bird from a winning family here may not do as well in CA or AZ or IL because the courses are different. For a reason one breeds different lines for different OLR'S in different places. That's what Ganus and others do, get the best winning birds from those races, breed from them, and send right back to those races. That's also why sometimes birds with a winning pedigree out of one area may be a flop elsewhere. One needs to study the pedigree of the bird and see if it's a good option for what they are looking to accomplish. Imports from winning lines are great to improve one's line on the basis of quality for sure. But i reckon the above still applies. Isn't breeding and racing pigeons a great sport? 👍 It's an amazing sport!
I feel like if you're shipping birds every week, and you're on top consistently year after year. You're a champion flyier. Whether its old birds or ybs you can specialize in either one. I think old birds are more respectable because they go 500 miles which is very far. But there is also the futuirty races here in nj. And from 100-250 most fliers are just flying to train birds and they dont judge their birds based off those shorter races they only want birds that race at 300-350. And unfortunately i think you get the most recognition from the big furturities like the hc, big apple, wtcm. Everything else is slightly less respected. Even tho there are more fliers in the other futuirties like lcm and paof. And to make it worse ANY olr is more respected/reputable than any results in ny local race. Even tho the real test is here in our combine. I really like your anaylsis of the champion fliers! This is where new guys should be going for ybs!
Also 2 more things! First I dislike that we are in South section. We should be central. We shouldn't be lumped in with guys in Atlantic city. That seems way off. Second. I have flown perth amboy for years and we have 20+ guys. You guys over in bayshore have far less members. But yet I think the competition is just as good if not better than perth.
I think you're spot on! Except I'm no champion flyer yet, still need to work on winning a Combine and special race plus be on top for 5+ years. The consistent winning shows who has the good birds, good breeding techniques, good health and racing systems. It's an art that takes time and consistency to master. Thanks for your comment.
I would think champion loft is a yearly thing like the Stanley cup which is why you can win it yearly and it has an award. I think to become a great or legendary flyer though is something that needs years and years of winning in old birds and young birds. Your birds just win and keep winning. I think to these guys in Europe and you see how many races their birds fly and against thousands upon thousands of birds and their birds perform for years before retiring which is why when their birds become available they go for thousands of dollars. Us seeing numbers like that in combine races are a thing of the past. I think the answer you’re looking for is a bit more nuanced, I think you have to win or place very highly at everything every year for at least a decade and longer to be considered an all time great flyer. I think you can be a rising star but it takes years to become a star at anything. The standard is also too personalized with too many opinions. What others may consider a champion you or I may not. I also don’t think you can be specialist at one thing to be one of the great, I think you need top tier success at it all IMO. Like with sports, you can be good, but only so many become great and that starts with winning all major awards at every level. Often time in sports you hear about a phenomenal talent but they don’t just talk about what he won as a pro, they also talk about what they won as an amateur or a college student. So to answer your questions I think it starts at home and ends when your birds are winning or placing high anywhere you send them against everyone birds. Not a one trick pony.
I like your points, you're right. It depends on what one is going for, there are so many avenues to pursue, OLR, Money Races, YB'S, OB's, different distances, etc. Even if one didn't win the Races but are consistently on top spots they too are Champions. I think the consistency is key. I will love to hear from people from Europe on what they think too. Thanks for your comment.

Absolutely crazy.
