you did really great. I do admire fanciers who are not afraid to basket their young birds on such long distances (300+ miles). In Poland we usually end with 200 mile race being the 5th young birds race and it is already a lot for these birds in my opinion.
I think that might be better for the birds development, you guys have a lot of participation in old birds right? We don’t have that here in USA. We fly them out to 370 miles in our club.
Yes, we do have 14-15 Old birds flights per season ranging from 80 miles up to 630 miles so everyone can specialize in a category or fly all the season. We start our season end of April till the end of July. The drawback is that if you want to be on the top you are almost stuck 3 months basketing and flying pigeons each weekend 😉 Some may not see it as an issue but you either do it well or don't do it at all.
Do you guys have the Young Birds in natural, lights, or dark system? Natural system the YBs don't do as well in the season but is best for then OBs. The dark system is the best for YBs but not so good for OBs. I use the Lights system which is good for YBs and still good for OBs but not as good as the Natural system. Some guys either race just YBs or just OBs. Some dominate one or the other.
In my combine only few prefer dark system which seems to have better results in trapping and consistency in winning YB prizes. Most go with natural system which pays off more when OB races starts. whoever wants to be on the top both YB and OB most likely prefer natural. I run on natural system as well and still have great results. Finished 2nd in combine and 1st in the club. A lot of losses nevertheless as of this year compared to 2023 both OB and YB season.

It's been a challenging season for sure, the birds are resilient. It's not that big of a payout but paid for the expenses and certainly a bit left over for Martini and Beer for sure 😉

DO YOU NOT HAVE ANY SATELLITE GPS RINGS ON ANY OF YOUR BIRDS JUST TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM I WOULD WANT TO KNOW
You can only use them for training not racing.
