He was the Michael Jordon of Baseball in the 90's. Had he stayed injury free, he would have broken all the records. He played so rough in the field he got hurt a lot, but he was special. Too good to put in the DH slot, but in retrospect maybe they should have put him there. Imagine how many homeruns he would have had.

One of my favorite athletes. Far and away my favorite baseball player of all time. It was a real treat growing up in the Seattle area and getting to see him play as much as I did. And what was most fun about watching him is how much he had playing, joking with teammates, and even having fun with us fans. He was always a kid at heart. And what too rarely gets mentioned is the fact that of all the players of his generation worth comparison, he was the only one without any connection to performance enhancing drugs.

First of all... GREAT video! Secondly, JR was awesome, he made baseball look FUN and he was amazing to watch no matter what team you like. In my opinion, he should've been considered for seriously for more MVP awards and is the absolute best player I've ever seen in nearly 50 years of watching
@@Cam23 Let's not forget that he was a CLEAN player playing in the "steroid era". Some of the players that were steroid users were doing equal to or better than him in the MVP race. He had the numbers even when he was passed what would be considered most players prime. That's the difference with JR. Even in his last few years, he STILL looked like he was in his prime. You still saw the teenager that graced the diamond and crushed the outfield in the late 80's. His injuries and age caught up with him. He was still feared in the outfield, you never knew when he was gonna make a big play or rob someone of a HR, and he was still feared at the plate.

The Mariners did bring the Turn Ahead the Clock uniforms back in 2018 for a game against the Royals. Also of note, Griffey helped design the colors and logo of these uniforms as well.
I was lucky enough to see Griffey play in the Bronx when I was a kid. He inspired me to model my entire game after him as someone who wanted to pursue baseball. Might not have had the talent this guy had... but it sure was fun trying to emulate that swing! Dude was absolutely incredible and a pure artist on the field and in the batters box. Absolute legend. And he had the most natural swing I have ever seen. He was the only player I've ever seen in this game who didn't have to try. He just had to show up and he was light years ahead of everyone else.
Being able to grow up watching him in his prime, along with Randy Johnson, Jay Buhner, Omar Vizquel, Edgar fucking Martinez etc was absolutely the greatest core memories a kid could have. No one before, and no one since as of this writing, played center field more electric than Ken Griffey Jr. His athleticism was off the chart in the 90s.
More like Wilt Chamberlain of Baseball ⚾️
They did do the “turn ahead the clock” jerseys again a few years back. They even played against the royals again like the original game. They were selling those jerseys at safeco for like $300 a piece
Subbed. Ken Griffey Jr is the reason I batted left-handed, played CF, and (still) wear backwards fitted hats. GOAT
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
Alright, this is another player on my list I can cross off. Thanx for doind Ken Griffey JR
I miss watching him play so much! I was about 11 years old on his rookie year and man did he make Baseball Exciting! I’ve always been a Yankees fan and Always Will Be But Who Couldn’t Love And Want To See Him Play Baseball ⚾️!!!! Thanks for this video I learned a lot about KGJ but still One Of If Not My Favorite Players Ever!!!
We need a video on Houston legend Lance Berkman. Was consistently good for 10 plus yrs and always clutch in the playoffs. Also held the record for doubles by a switch hitter for a bit till Brian Roberts broke it.
@@ap894what dies that even mean?? 🤣
Fat Elvis? Pride of the Rice Owls? Good call
My goat! I loved growing up while he was playing! I remember always imitating his batting stance as a kid
Keep up the great vids, The Kid was pure magic to watch. How about a video on the Atlanta Braves pitching core of the 90's; Glavin, Smoltz, Maddux...
That would be a good one.
Watching him play in the old dome at Seattle brings back so many memories. What a player.
Another stellar video, Cam!
Thank you!
Griffey Jr is my favorite player of all time and always will be! Go Ms
I had the pleasure of living in Seattle while Jr played there and there was so many happy memories. My favorite was the Spiderman catch in right center field as I was at the Kingdome when it happened and it blew my mind when I saw it happening in real time.
There will never be another Kid.
I watch every jr video I find. Born in 82 this was my guy growing up. Forget Mike, everyone wanted to be jr.
GO JUNIOR AKA THE KID, you were the greatest . The video was dynamic in every sense of the word, you were AWESOME. I LOVED YOUR DAD AS WELL ON THE BIG RED MACHINE 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪😃
Who didn't vote for Hall of Fame induction?!?!? 630 HRs without the juice!
@carlmohr9941 How do you know he wasnt juicing? His numbers went up just like everyone else 's in the 90s
And he was injured for near a 1/3 of his career.
@@christiansoldier77Griffeys career started at the very end of the 80s numb nuts. What do you mean "went up in the 90s" all of his stats were in the 90s and 2000s
@@braheme1260 Griffey is 37th all time in Plate Appearances so He has had more time at bat than the vast majority of hitters in baseball history.
@@christiansoldier77💯 juicing! As you said numbers rose like everyone else and the post roid injury collapse. He fits the profile perfectly. These dudes don’t like to hear that 😂
What an inspiration as a family as well! Hands down best swing ever.
Yeah I love the family first attitude. On top of being a great player. Watched his dad play with the Big Red Machine in the 70’s. He quickly became a favorite of mine. And I had “Ken Griffey Jr’s Baseball” on NES. I used to kill it!!!! Cool thing is I was in Cincinnati watching Reds/Padres and I caught his 590th homer off Will Ledesma of the Padres.
That's way cool, thank you for sharing!
Great work as always! I would like to see Jim Thome get a video. Easily the least talked about person with 600+ homers
Agreed, I always think Big Jim is underrated (maybe that’s the wrong word, maybe “overlooked” or as you put it “least talked about” would be better). I still think he should’ve placed much higher than 7th in the ‘02 AL MVP 😂.
As a father whose son followed in his footsteps I know the pride that his father must feel looking on his son as he surpassed his own accomplishments. That’s the greatest feat a father could ever achieve and one of the greatest accomplishments they can achieve together. It’s the type of bond that’s missing from society today. I feel so grateful my son and I have been blessed with that bond just like the Griffey’s and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. A wonderful story set on the backdrop of America’s past time. Make Father’s Great Again 🇺🇸
Beautifully said. If only every Father had your mindset the world would be a much better place!
I watched every game I could live and recorded most. I love watching Ken Griffey Jr. I had to educate people who he was. I'm from England and fell in love with baseball, it was probably what kept me out of them streets.👏🏾👏🏾
I'm from a world of football, Americans call it soccer, but it puzzles most people when I tell them my first love is baseball.
I haven't missed an allstar game since I watched my first, which was in Toronto when the American League won 1 - 0, I think 1990.
Could you do The INSANE Prime of Jim Thome?
I've never met a baseball fan that hates Griffey jr. Also the same thing with Tony Gwynn. It was wonderful to watch them play.
Very true!
Love Both Players
Junior was so good
Love the content Cam...Miggy Cabrera definitely deserves his flowers💯
Not a sports guy at all, but always felt a pull towards Griffey. What a great all around human being.
Nice job on this video btw!
First of all... GREAT video! Secondly, JR was awesome, he made baseball look FUN and he was amazing to watch no matter what team you like. In my opinion, he should've been considered for seriously for more MVP awards and is the absolute best player I've ever seen in nearly 50 years of watching
Thank you, I appreciate that! The era he played was brutal MVP competition but it feels like he should have more than one 🤯
@@Cam23 Let's not forget that he was a CLEAN player playing in the "steroid era". Some of the players that were steroid users were doing equal to or better than him in the MVP race. Him being natural should've given him an advantage over the others like McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, Palmiero and Clemens. He's the Drew Brees of baseball... Another player that was cheated out of the MVP
@@mikec6678 You're right, I agree. I wasn't suggesting he never deserved a second. In the minds of voters back then it wasn't something they had proof or knowledge of which is why I said that
@@Cam23 Don't take what I said wrong. I was agreeing with you, using 2 examples of why JR should've won more than 1 MVP.
@@mikec6678 Ah gotcha. Thanks for bearing with me, I was trying to figure out if I was understanding you right haha. I'm good now! I'd say if there were revotes he'd be walking away with a LOT more hardware 🏆
I grew up in Gig Harbor in the 90s. My first baseball game my Dad took me across the narrows bridge to the King Dome in 95. Griffey hit a walk off home run wearing their aqua colored home uniforms. One of the best memories of my life. Ill never forget listening to Dave Neihouse call the games in the 90s on my Grandmas porch. Thanks for everything Griffey.
I was a left handed centerfielder and absolutely LOVED JR! I’m 46 and still have 3 of Jr’s posters in my garage.. love #24
The Mariners did bring the Turn Ahead the Clock uniforms back in 2018 for a game against the Royals. Also of note, Griffey helped design the colors and logo of these uniforms as well.
I was and still am a Braves fan.. Chipper is my fav! But dang did i enjoy watching Ken while i was growing up! Great video 🎉
Some players we make that exception for, and Griffey Jr. fits that category for so many people!
Thank you, I’m happy to hear you enjoyed!
Hands down one of my favorite players I've ever watched.
And ty for putting that story about Greg nettles in here too. A lot of ppl don’t know about that story even die hard baseball fans don’t know about it. Great very overall you did the kid justice
I grew up in western Washington in the 90s...i went to dozens of M's games back then in middle &highschool...i consider myself extremely lucky to have seen Jr play in Seattle...the game will never see another player with his all around skill level...He is the goat 🐐
Hands down my favorite player. I collected all his memorabilia.
not even a big baseball fan.but you earned my sub. great video. ken griffey jr. is the man
Thank you! My goal with these videos is for them to be enjoyable to everyone, so I’m glad to hear that you liked the video
Man, I was great going to Ms games as a kid and seeing what he could do, those first few years where he literally ran along the wall to make a spectacular catch were incredible. Then seeing him play on the same team with his dad was great too!
I love learning he started wearing 42 to honor Robinson, I can't wait to pass that knowledge on to others now, thank you.
Thanks for the fantastic video like always cam! Also thanks for all you do for Fuzzy... Itz my daily fix to stay in the know so wouldn't be possible without you. Keep killing it!
Thank you for the kind words! It’s been a blast working with Fuzzy. I watched the recaps religiously prior to editing them so I am a huge ambassador for MLB Recap and happy to do it!
As a kid growing up playing baseball, and playing high school ball with a few scholarship offers, he was the player everyone tried to imitate. From his swing to his work ethic. And he had the most natural swing I have ever seen. He was the only player I've ever seen in this game who didn't have to try. He just had to show up and he was light years ahead of everyone else.
Damn good player on the field and a damn good man off the field. Meeting him is one my best memories.
my, oh my!
Favorite MLB Player Of all time🙌🏾🔥❗️ That Swing is like poetry in motion! 💎
Can't wait for the 'insane *primes* of barry bonds'.
Have u done Rickey Henderson yet? There a lot of material u can use on Rickey
Love these videos and this channel! Would you consider doing a video on Chipper Jones?
Thank you! Chipper is a great suggestion, he's on the short list (August or September upload)
@@Cam23 That's awesome! Can't wait!
Do you have Twitter/Instagram?
I have an instagram! It's cam23_yt
Also sorry for the late response I could have sworn I replied!
Being able to grow up watching him in his prime, along with Randy Johnson, Jay Buhner, Omar Vizquel, Edgar fucking Martinez etc was absolutely the greatest core memories a kid could have. I remember watching Griffey Jr. the most though at the Kingdome. He was always hitting homers and making freak catches. Unreal talent
Edgar needs one of these too!!’
Ken Griffey will always be one of my favorite players . Hands down my favorite player. I collected all his memorabilia..
THE Greatest swing ever. Really glad you did this video and in my opinion he would’ve been the all time HR leader if he didnt have as many injuries he had. Even his sneakers were legendary (the original color not all these re-do’s) and I know him even more cause he always killed my my yankees especially when he played at Old Yankee stadium (and way to go Steinbrenner we could’ve had a legendary dude if you jus treated his pops right 🤦🏾♂️)
What’s crazy is there’s hardly anything on TH-cam save it be some highlights. It was time to give Junior a retrospective on his career. And you’re right his OG shoes look so dope!
great video, and he did all those amazing numbers clean, that's not the same, my favorite player and one of the most complete players i ever seen, by the way, thanks for the video and you do a great job
I am lucky enough to have lived in Washington during the griffey years. Although I didn't have season tickets, I did see as many games in the kingdome as I could. Griff was and still is my favorite player followed closely by Frank Thomas. Griff wasn't just a great player, he was the Mariners at the time. If I look close enough there may still be beer stains on the ceiling when Edgar hit that double and scored Griff in 95' to beat the yanks.
Watching Junior catch a fly ball was amazing. It was a coyote hunting a rabbit. Ichiro, Gwynn, Junior...and Rickey, of course. That's my outfield and DH.
No offense, but who watched Ken Griffey, Jr. and voted him outside of #1 MVP? I'm not even a baseball fan, but those guys make life better.
Great video!
Wish that Ken Griffey JR Would’ve Won an World Series Ring 💍 and World Series MVP
Love these videos
Thank you so much, I’m glad you’re enjoying the content!
Goat 24 ⚾️
Best story in baseball ever.
Even better than Rickey, and that’s tough.
Edit: oh yeah, and the distain for the yankmees was deserved and mastered with class.
Griffey is king!
We’ll probably never see the combination of talent and class of Junior ever again.
The last true role model of any professional sport. 🇺🇸
Awesome episode!!😃👍⚾️ Griffey was so fun to watch over the years! Except when he beat Don Mattingly and the Yankees in the post season!
I loved that swing of his.
He’s the goat. He’s the greatest baseball player to ever step on the diamond. If he NEVER got plagued with career dampening injuries at age 30-he’d literally be the only player in history with 800 home runs right now. Without debate. No way he shouldn’t have won MVP in 96 and 99 too.
One of the all-time greats!
