1 - Prowler 2 - Murders in the Rue Morgue 3 - Hallowed be thy name 4 - Where eagles dare 5 - Rime of the Ancient Mariner 6 - Stranger in a strange land 7 - Infinite dreams
Debut - Prowler Killers - Innocent Exile(the ending is amazing) Number of The Beast- 22 Acacia Ave(love the changes and Adrian's solo) Piece of Mind - To Tame A Land(so atmospheric and intense) Powerslave - Powerslave(the solos) Somewhere In Time - Caught Somewhere in Time(the harmonies before the chorus get me so pumped) Seventh Son - Infinite Dreams(the whole song captures the lyrics so well)
Live After Death and Fear of the Dark were my into albums to Maiden and yet as a kid I had absolutely 0 idea that it was the same band as they sounded so different.
Phantom of the opera, murders in the rue morgue, children of the damned, flight of icarus, rime of the ancient mariner, sea of madness and infinite dreams(close to the prophecy).
Phantom of the Opera, Killers, Hallowed be Thy Name, Still Life, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Caught Somewhere in Time and all songs from Seventh Son of a Seventh Son🤟
Phamtom, Wrathchild, Hallowed, Revelations, Powerslave, Alexander the Great, Infinite Dreams. Really hard to chose just one from these albums. Masterpieces.
The Live After Death version of Phantom of The Opera is such a Unique Song, like Everyone in The Band Decided to Turn it Up to 12.., Everything is So Precise , Every Note, Like The Gods of Music decided to take a Break and let Steve, Bruce, Dave & Adrian and Nicko Take Over, Unreal..., I Think is The Greatest Live Song I've Ever Heard......., The Precision is Absurd, Impossible...., Also Agree with You in "Dave & Adrian's Magnificent Moments", when they go up the stairs in Hallowed Be Thy Name, From Maiden England 88, Infinite Dreams, the part when they meet in the middle to Harmonize their Leads...., Sooo Epic, it does something to Your Soul......
Yeah Revelations is such a magical song, I love that clean "plucked" more chill chord part that comes around in the song a couple of times combined with Bruce's singing "THE WALLS ARE COLD AND SOULS CRY OUT IN PAAAAAIIN" that plucked clean guitar in the backround soooo good =)
Wow, what fun! Okay, I'm in... 1. Strange World 2. Wrathchild 3. Run to the Hills 4. To Tame a Land 5. 2 Minutes to Midnight 6. Sea of Madness 7. Only the Good Die Young An honourable mention goes to Flight of Icarus - I think I just love Maiden's big layered choruses... P.S. thanks for showcasing the bass in Powerslave 🙂
Glad you appreciated the bass part - even if my finger picking is still a little too stiff 😅 Great choices - especially to tame a land!! Actually, Flight of Icarus was a highlight of Live after Death and the Legacy tour for me... And I find it so much fun to play live - choruses with vocal harmonies are always cool 😃
1) Infinite Dreams 2) Revelations 3) Caught Somewhere In Time 4) Phantom 5) Hallowed 6) Powerslave 7) Lonliness of the Long Distance 8) The Trooper 9) Aces High 10) Icarus 11) Purgatory 12) Rime 13) To Tame 14) Prisoner 15) Clairvoyant
As a kid I remember seeing a Lucozade advert with Daley Thompson which has the opening of Phantom of the Opera as a soundtrack. I loved it but didn't find out what it was and get into Maiden for another five years.
1st Album: Strange World. Probably the only song that was gentle from start to finish from their entire discography? Killers: Prodigal Son. Smith has stated it's one of his favorite solos. Just a good song in general. NOTB: The Prisoner. That bridge/interlude section before the solos, is a fine piece of guitar work. PoM: To Tame a Land. A great musical summary of the book, Dune. Great mysterious guitar parts. Powerslave: Back in the Village. Some of their finest guitar work IMO. That opening riff, then the ascending and descending hammer-ons then pull-offs make a great intro. SiT: Sea of Madness. I like the solo. SoaSS: The Prophecy. I like the classical outro.
Love these picks! Back In the Village is a great song and I think it would have made a killer opener if it wasn't overshadowed by Aces High (rightfully so, but stilll...). I mean the first line is literally "Turn the spotlights on the people" 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Infinite Dreams, that’s what I call an overwhelming song’s climax: the mid section call and response parts with the beautiful harmonies!! Oh, boy!! Blissful!
Nice to see you mentioned the Live After Death version of Hallowed when in unison Dave and Adrian step up each side of the the drum riser. Choreographed guitar genius!
In chronological order: Remember Tomorrow, Killers, Prisoner, Flight of Icarus, Powerslave, Stranger in a Strange Land,.Infinite Dreams. Awesome video as always
I cannot go just one favorite per album. So here are my favorite 2: -prowler & phantom -genghas khan & innocent exile -prisoner & hallowed -revelations & where eagles dare -2 minutes & powerslave -wasted years & deja vu -infinite dreams (all time fav) & evil men do -holy smoke & hook in u -afraid to shoot & childhoods end
Phantom or Strange world, fantastic singing from Paul in that song Purgatory/Murders,impossible to decide who is the better one Hallowed be thy name, absolute masterpiece Still life,a hidden gem on that album The rime of an a…. mariner, another masterpiece The loneliness of the l…,hard to chose only one from this album because it’s my absolute favorit maiden album and there are so many godly songs here Infinite dreams/Seventh son of a seventh son, didn’t reach the hight of the previous album but still one of their best albums with sooo many good songs
First time I saw Maiden was in 83 (I actually remember parts of the show, even 4 decades later). Was fortunate to see them on their World Slavery Tour twice as well as "Somewhere on Tour" back in 86'. Saw them in 1988 (with Megadeth opening). Was fortunate to even see Maiden with Blaze Bayley back in 1998. Seen Maiden IIRC 19 times since 1983 and number 20 coming this year. I love their new stuff as well, not just their pre 90's stuff.
Love the video ❤ Heres mine 1. Phantom 2. Drifter 3. Children of the damned 4. Flight of Icarus 5. Ancient mariner 6. stranger in a strange land 7. The evil that men do
For me, it goes like this: Iron Maiden: Phantom of the Opera Killers: Innocent Exile The Number of the Beast: The Number of the Beast Piece of Mind: To Tame a Land Powerslave: Rime of the Ancient Mariner Somewhere in Time: Alexander the Great Seventh Son of a Seventh Son: Infinite Dreams
Phantom got me into maiden from the Lucozade advert featuring Daley Thompson. Children of the damned, Hallowed, trooper, flash of the blade, rime, powerslave, stranger in a strange land, wasted years, moon child, infinite dreams, 7th son
- Phantom Of The Opera - Wrathchild - Hallowed Be Thy Name - The Trooper - Aces High - The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner - The Evil That Men Do
Phantom, Killers (Title Track), Number of the Beast (Title. First maiden song I heard. One of the most fun to both play and listen to.) Revelations 2 minutes to Midnight Deja vu (similar to Sea, one of their most unique songs. Could have been a single in another universe.) Infinite Dreams.
1. Phantom of the Opera. 2. Genghis Khan. 3. Hallowed be thy Name. 4. Still Life (my favorite album). 5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner. 6. Caught Somewhere in Time. 7. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
Great chooices Nico. My faves: 1. Phantom of the Opera 2. Murders in the rue Morgue 3. 22 Acacia Avenue 4. To Tame a Land / Where Eagles Dare (sorry I cheated) 5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 6. Sea of Madness 7. 7th Son / Infinite Dreams / The Prophecy (I did it again)
Great episode, Nico! On a side note: I’ve always felt a neat similarity between Sea Of Madness’ music pre chorus? “…as the eagle and the dove fly so high on wings above…” and Total Eclipse’s main riff. I mean both are grandiose and powerful parts that make me shiver in excitement every single time! Cheers!
I started listening to them in 1989 at the age of 12 so there is a lot of emotional connection for me with many songs. At those ages you get impressed so easily by things you have never listened to before. The first album I listened to whas SSOASS and of course that's the magical one for me. My choice for these albums would be: Remember Tomorrow, Wrathchild, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Where Eagles Dare, Aces High, Deja Vu and well... so hard to choose just one from SSOASS... all of them except Can I Play With Madness which I feel is out of place and I hate... I would say Only the Good Die Young with Infinite Dreams and The Evil that Men Do very close in second position... but all of them resonate to me, my childhood, my memories... what a masterpiece of an album. Hearing Moonchild for the first time, my first Iron Maiden song, can you imagine?
Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son are the best Maiden albums and I cannot seem to get tired of them. The rest of the old stuff I very rarely listen to these days.
I love all the albums, I find your taken on a journey through the 80s era. Each album gets a little better and there's so many memorable songs on each album
Great video as always! Here's my list: 1. Phantom of the Opera 2. Killers 3. The Prisoner 4. Revelations 5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 6. Alexander the Great 7. Moonchild Fun concept, looking forward for more videos!
Couldn't agree more than that! My Preferences: Phantom of the Opera, Prodigal Song/Ides of March/Killers, Invaders/Hallowed be thy Name, Dune, Losfer Words/Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Loneliness of the Long Distant Runner, Infinite Dreams
1. Phantom of the Opera 2. Killers (Honorable mention to Innocent Exile, which is, imo, probably the most underrated song Iron Maiden has ever recorded) 3. 22 Acacia Avenue (my favorite song of all time) 4. Revalations 5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 6. Caught Somewhere in Time/Sea of Madness/Stranger in a Strange Land (This is my favorite Iron Maiden album as well and i just cant for the life of me pick between these three songs) 7. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (Second favorite song of all time)
Great choices Nico. I love the song Sea of Madness as well. I remember that Maiden played two nights in Toronto for the Somewhere in Time (Somewhere on Tour) concerts.
Charlotte the harlot - innocent exile gangland - quest for fire - flash of the blade - sea of madness - moonchild - public enema number one - chains of misery
My picks, also not "the best" but the ones that resonates with me the most: Iron Maiden - Transylvania Killers - Purgatory/Gengis Khan (ex-aequo) Number Of The Beast - 22 Acacia Avenue Piece Of Mind - To Tame A Land Powerslave - The Duellists Somewhere In Time - The Lonliness Of The Long Distance Runner Seventh Son - how can I choose one when every single second of this masterpiece Is still giving me goosebumps 30 years after the first listen???
Commodore 64 and BBS brings back memories. Still have it in it's original box. The monitor, tape deck, floppy drives. Lost the printer over the years unfortunately. I need to bring it out again. And as always, Maiden rules.
Awesome list, wrong sleeve on SSOASS. 41 and I still love to geek out on Maiden! Remember Tomorrow Killers 22 Acacia Avenue Revelations Rime of the Ancient Marriner Stranger in a Strange Land Infinite Dreams Public Enema No1 Be Quick or be Dead Sign of the Cross The Clansman Thin Line Between Love and Hate Pascendale The Legacy The Man who would be King Tears of a Clown Hell on Earth
First time I heard Maiden was late 80s. Someone gave me dodgy bootleg tapes of Seventh Son and Number of the Beast. I played those until the tape deck chewed them to pieces... but it got me hooked. My personal favourite album is Seventh Son - just the sheer drama of it. Amazing. Least favourite is No Prayer for the Dying.
Phantom of the Opera is my #1 favorite ever. It's also the song i warm up to note-for-note on bass. It's practically got every technique (minus slap) in one song. Fingers are totally limber after playing this 🎸
Love everything you do! As always great vid ! 1-phantom of the opera 2-killers 3-hallowed be thy name 4-flight of the icarus 5-aces high 6-loneliness of the long distance runner 7-the evil that men do
Phantom of the Opera, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Hallowed Be Thy Name (best Maiden song ever), Flight of Icarus, Aces High, Caught Somewhere in Time, Infinite Dreans
1. Strange World 2. Purgatory 3. Hallowed Be Thy Name 4. Die With Your Boots On 5. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner 6. Alexander The Great 7. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Cheers mates, Up The Irons!
My favourites from every album are as follows: Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera. Best iron maiden song full stop. To this day I love it more than any other. Killers: probably the title track tbh. There are awesome ones on here but it’s literally “Killer” Number of the Beast: Hallowed Be Thy Name - just yes. Piece of Mind: Where Eagles Dare! That drum intro just takes that song to a whole other level. The vocals and guitar harmonies are amazing Powerslave: Rime of Ancient Mariner - 13 minutes of perfect Maiden all in one. Somewhere in Time: Alexander the Great. The epic maiden songs for me will always trump the singles and deep cuts. This one is up there with Mariner. Perfect. Seventh Son: not my favourite album at all but I’d have to say my favourite song from this is the epic title track. Close after would be good die young. I’ll continue the rest in part two! Great video Niko! 🤘🏻
All-time favorites: The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner Fates Warning The Prophecy Only the Good Die Young Honorable mentions: Gangland When Two Worlds Collide The Legacy The Age of Innocence Mother of Mercy Shadows of the Valley The Parchment
My top 10 (changes sometimes): Phantom of The Opera Tears of a Clown That Girl Total Eclipse Alexander The Great Hell On Earth Another Life The Prophecy Out Of The Shadows Brighter Than a Thousand Suns Phantom of The Opera describes Iron Maiden perfectly. I absolutely loved when you played it, it’s identical!
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son is my all time favorite IM album. I grew up watching the Made In England VHS... and Raising Hell! Actually, it might be a great topic to cover, Nico, Raising Hell, the best live concert show and DVD I've ever watched! Simon Drake's segments elevated the show to another level... and the way it ends with Bruce decapitated and his head impaled by Eddie is soooooo fxcking brutally metal :D I was literally a kid watching those VHS' over and over and over!
I didn't love raising hell when I first saw it (I believe it was live on PPV?) and I still don't know how I feel about it... Some of it was cool but I remember Simon Drake getting on my nerves a little 😅
My favorite songs from each of the first 7 albums: From IRON MAIDEN (1980): ✓ Phantom Of The Opera From KILLERS (1981): ✓ Murders In The Rue Morgue From THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST (1982): ✓ Hallowed Be Thy Name From PIECE OF MIND (1983): ✓ To Tame A Land From POWERSLAVE (1984): ✓ Rime Of The Ancient Mariner From SOMEWHERE IN TIME (1986): ✓ The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner From SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON (1988): ✓ Infinite Dreams
Infinite dreams/caught sit/hallowed… how can I possibly choose one out of the 3? What I can do is choose in which of the 3 Bruce sings best: infinite dreams. Banger of a video discussion, loved it!
1. Transylvania 2. Wrathchild 3. Hallowed Be Thy Name (22 Acacia Avenue is a close 2nd) 4. The Trooper 5. Powerslave 6. Caught Somewhere In Time 7. The Evil That Men Do (Moonchild bumps tho)
Great stuff. Since you mentioned it briefly, I think a full video on the interplay between Steve's bass lines and the guitar parts of certain songs would be worthwhile. The early solo section of "Stranger in a Strange Land" might be the best example, but there are many.
That would definitely make for a cool video. Awesome idea! Just give me some time to practice my finger picking a little more... Cause as you can see, I definitely need it 😅
Great vid, mate. Brilliant breakdown of the guitar parts too. It's difficult to choose 'favourites' ...! Remember Tomorrow/Killers/Number of the Beast/Flight of Icarus/Can't choose a single track from Powerslave!/Wasted Years/The Evil That Men Do
Iron Maiden - Tie between Phantom of the Opera and Strange World Killers - Killers The Number of the Beast - 22 Acacia Avenue Piece of Mind - Revelations Powerslave - Rime of the Ancient Mariner Somewhere in Time - Stranger in a Strange Land Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - Infinite Dreams No Prayer for the Dying - I'll be honest, it's been a while since of listened to this album but I remember my last favorite being Mother Russia. Fear of the Dark - Judas Be My Guide The X Factor - Sign of the Cross Virtual XI - The Clansman Brave New World - Ghost of the Navigator Dance of Death - Dance of Death A Matter of Life and Death - Brighter Than A Thousand Suns The Final Frontier - The Talisman The Book of Souls - If Eternity Should Fail Senjutsu - Hell on Earth
I was into maiden for about 2 years, from early 82 until summer of 83. Looking back over 43 years in the ultimate analysis, the final analysis, The one song that stands the test of time for me, is wasted years. The subject matter, and in particular Adrian Smith's guitar solo is one of the most perfect guitar solos ever composed. I know, to each their own I get it. But that's my take.
That is one hell of a solo and def one I will be remembering on my death-bed thinking about wasted years Ps. I love how that solo plays out / ends up while Bruce is starting his singing again and the solo is continuing for a bit, not many solos are ending up like that, masterpiece.
Cool you broke down Infinite dreams intro on the 2 guitars. I’ve been trying to combine them both to make a decent 1 guitar cover but it doesn’t really work. Once that is accomplished, all of life will fall into line. ❤
Phantom got me in to Maiden too - and again, not the record. It was on a soft drink TV advert in the UK and I asked a friend what the song was....he played me Phantom and that was it...many decades later...still loving it. Great song choices and comments Nico. Looking forward to the other 2 videos on this
Fun and insightful, thank you! My personal faves from the first 7: IM: Phantom; K: Genghis Kahn; NotB: Hallowed; PoM: Revelations; PS: Rhyme; SiT: Loneliness; and 7th Son: Clairvoyant Why? Bass player! 😋
Brilliant Video Nico! Nice to learn about your faves, Somewhere in Time is a special one for sure! My favourites from the line-up: Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera Killers - Wrathchild Number of the Beast - Hallowed be thy Name (The opening lyrics and instrumental work is chilling!) Piece of Mind - The Trooper Powerslave - Rime of the Ancient Mariner (what a song!) Somewhere in Time - Alexander the Great (one of my favourites to play on guitar, amazing live and a great hype song) but the whole album is 🤘 Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - Can I Play With Madness? (Easy pick, it was the first Maiden song and video I experienced and my gateway to the band! Holds a special place for me) Welcome in all the new folks joining us 😁
Nice list! You know what... Can I play with madness was my first "new" release from them and I remember recording the video from the music channel and watching it a dozen times a day 😂
@LicksOfTheBeast Cheers Nico! Haha really? Always something special about that video, it felt like such a full circle moment hearing that during their current tour live! Can't wait for the next instalments of the album song choices 😁🤘
1. Remember Tomorrow 2. Killers 3. Hallowed Be Thy Name 4. Revelations 5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 6. Sea of Madness 8. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Phantom - It's the defining Maiden song in many ways. The prototype. 10/10 no notes. Wrathchild - Killers isn't an album I come back to often if I need my Maiden fix, but this track is iconic and unbelievable live. Children - This is some peak Adrian, it's a close contest with Hallowed, but I just love Adrian's solo in this. Revelations - It might be Iron Maiden's best track, it's just gorgeous. 23:58 - It's the first track of Maiden's I ever heard, it's maybe not the best or my favourite on the album, so mission failed really, but it's the first so I have to give it credit. Alexander - Everything about it is peak Maiden. I still get a bit emotional thinking back to finally seeing it live! Infinite Dreams - For the reasons you said. It really is just like splitting hairs. This band doesn't make bad music.
Yeah there is a point where it is a bit like splitting hairs, mainly because they really are an *album band* and many of us just devoured the entire LPs/cassettes/CDs from start to finish. 😊
@@LicksOfTheBeast the concept of the album starting to fade out over streaming friendly pop it in a playlist collections is a tragedy for me. I don't want to find a banger on a playlist to find the rest of the album is disconnected. I wanna sit down and be transported to when this music was made, hear that story, listen to the same amp, guitars, drum kit from the start to end. When you hear "Seven deadly sins... Seven ways to win". You know that it's time for a journey. Maiden excel at that
You may be the first IM fan I'm come across that has similar favorites from them. Phantom of the Opera then Remember Tomorrow, Purgatory then Killers, Hallowed be thy Name then 22 Acacia Ave, Where Eagles Dare then To Tame a Land, Powerslave then Aces High, Sea of Madness then Caught Somewhere in Time or Wasted Years or Stranger in a Strange Laned (SIT is my favorite Maiden album as well). Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is Infinite Dreams then The Evil That Men Do, On NPFTD I have Public Enema Number One then No Prayer for the Dying, and on FOTD it's Afraid to Shoot Strangers then FOTD, but mad respect to the ballad Chasing Love. Finally someone who likes Somewhere in Time the best as well. The hardest question would be what is the greatest song IM has written? Hallowed be thy Name? Phantom of the Opera? Where Eagles Dare? Rime of the Ancient Mariner? Wasted Years?
Somewhere In Time is such an amazing album, probably my absolute fav. Where Eagles Dare is def not the greatest Maiden song, I would much rather pick Stranger In A Strange Land or Wasted Years before that song. Either way , honestly , there is no way to name the greatest Maiden song, too many "greatest" songs =) Better to name your 10 best songs or do it like Nicko just did with his video! PS. Chasing love, I take it you mean Wasting love ? ;D
@@B_E_C_K You are the first person I have ever heard that could name your 1 favorite Maiden song, I have never seen a Maiden fan do this before :D I could not do it, too many great songs, too many favorites, I could give you top 10 but never one song, I am too big of a Maiden fan for that I guess hehe. For me Where Eagles Dare has some great riffs, and I love those dreamy harmonized solo parts in the middle. Other than that I much prefer Revelations and The Trooper (even if I am sooo tired of The Trooper since they play it on Swedish rock radio every day) on that album, to each their own yes
I knew you would include Revelations, I just knew. Well not to be too on point...... Iron Maiden ( I am very superficial ). Innocent Exile, but I had the Purgatory T-shirt purchased on Venice Beach I must add. " I am not a number ..... I am a free man ". My grade 11 English teacher would be so proud: Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner. Sea of Madness, Yessss. Infinite Dreams...... wait is this still Heavy Metal? Oh yes, yes it is. These early Maiden years remind me of the touchstone moments of the 1st Star Wars trillogy. Cheers!
Interesting! I stopped and checked the albums before watching or reading comments as not to be influenced LOL We have a few agreements, but that's to be expected I guess. Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera. I mean, it has to be, right? Plus its a LOT of fun to play. Killers - Murders in the Rue Morgue. I never really had a favorite on this album, I liked them all, until I saw the performance with Bruce on 12 Wasted Years. The Number of the Beast - Hallowed Be Thy Name. Another "it has to be, right?" song. Although the title track was the first one Maiden song I ever heard. Piece of Mind - Revelations. This was the first Maiden album I owned and this song stood out to me on first listen. I still remember hearing it in the cheap headphones of my Walkman knock off. "Los Angeles can you feel it?!??" definitely got added to every listen after Live After Death LOL Powerslave - Aces High. My brother and I weren't allowed to go to the concert (money related, nothing else like Satanic Panic), but mom and dad bought us the VHS and we completely wore the thing out. Hearing Aces start, you KNOW good things are coming. Somewhere In Time - Wasted Years. I just love this song. This song and album cemented Adrian as my guitar hero. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - Moonchild. Tough one so I just went with the lead track. It kicks off the fun so .. I'll go with it! No doubt this album's reception has morphed over the years!
Phantom of the Opera Killers/Purgatory Hallowed Be Thy Name The Trooper/To tame the land Aces High Somewhere in Time/Alexander the Great Seventh Son of a Seventh Son That would be my ranking but I really cannot decide which of those options if I were to pick only one
1. Phantom Of The Opera 2. Killers 3. Hallowed Be Thy Name 4. To Tame A Land 5. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner 6. Alexander The Great 7. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Great video, Nico, I’ll have to pick my favorites before watching your subsequent episodes on this topic! I’ll respond back later with my pics for these albums, but wanted you to know I really enjoyed this offering and wish you a great rest of the week and weekend 🤠
Great vid :) Think it is hard to pick a favorite from any album. It all depends on the moob I am in which song I like. For me they got great song, good songs and then you have "The Angel and the Gambler". One song that will always stand out in "Stranger in a Strange Land" which was the song that got me in to HM music. Also tend to listen more to the longer ones, like "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" but, again, it all comes down to the mood I am in.
I love Powerslave but I couldn't put it above Rime of the Ancient Mariner. As a bass player the section after the slow section back to the main riff kicking back in is possibly my favourite bit of Maiden. Honourable mention to Losfer Words
Live after death!!! That concert changed our lives!!! Theater! Opera! Concert! Rock! All of the above.
Los Angeles, can you feel it!
1 - Prowler
2 - Murders in the Rue Morgue
3 - Hallowed be thy name
4 - Where eagles dare
5 - Rime of the Ancient Mariner
6 - Stranger in a strange land
7 - Infinite dreams
I agree with Murders, Stranger and Infinite Dreams, such awesome songs.
The others are of course gr8 too =)
Debut - Prowler
Killers - Innocent Exile(the ending is amazing)
Number of The Beast- 22 Acacia Ave(love the changes and Adrian's solo)
Piece of Mind - To Tame A Land(so atmospheric and intense)
Powerslave - Powerslave(the solos)
Somewhere In Time - Caught Somewhere in Time(the harmonies before the chorus get me so pumped)
Seventh Son - Infinite Dreams(the whole song captures the lyrics so well)
Prowler, Wrathchild, Hallowed be thy name, To tame a land, Aces high, Wasted years & Seventh son of a seventh son.
Wow. My favorite IM song is Purgatory and this is the first time I've heard anyone give it some love!
Wonderful song!
Remember Tomorrow, Killers, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Where Eagles Dare, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Caught Somewhere in Time, Infinite Dreams
I remember when I listened to Killers for the first time, I was blown away
@@ArcaneMontane Killers is amazing, the solos are among Dave and Adrian's best
So wisely chosen. Revelations is probably the Maiden Song of all times. It alway gives me goosebumps.
Yeah Revelations is such a magical song, I love that clean "plucked" more chill chord part that comes around in the song a couple of times combined with Bruce's singing "THE WALLS ARE COLD AND SOULS CRY OUT IN PAAAAAIIN" that plucked clean guitar in the backround soooo good =)
I gave Purgatory another listen. It really is a great song. I almost forgot half of Killers.
Wow, what fun! Okay, I'm in...
1. Strange World
2. Wrathchild
3. Run to the Hills
4. To Tame a Land
5. 2 Minutes to Midnight
6. Sea of Madness
7. Only the Good Die Young
An honourable mention goes to Flight of Icarus - I think I just love Maiden's big layered choruses...
P.S. thanks for showcasing the bass in Powerslave 🙂
Glad you appreciated the bass part - even if my finger picking is still a little too stiff 😅
Great choices - especially to tame a land!!
Actually, Flight of Icarus was a highlight of Live after Death and the Legacy tour for me... And I find it so much fun to play live - choruses with vocal harmonies are always cool 😃
@@LicksOfTheBeast Thanks for the reply! Love your channel and your playing 😊
Caught somewhere in time is my all time favourite maiden song
My favourite Iron Maiden album? Easy; the first SEVEN of them. 😊
Nico, you put Powerslave sleeve cover instead of seventh son! Check it out!

8) The Trooper
9) Aces High

As a kid I remember seeing a Lucozade advert with Daley Thompson which has the opening of Phantom of the Opera as a soundtrack. I loved it but didn't find out what it was and get into Maiden for another five years.
Yes me too I remember thinking what song is that I love it!
It was a powerful image for sure!
My personal favorites are Phantom Of The Opera, Drifter, Gangland, Still Life, Back In The Village, Sea of Madness, and The Clairvoyant.
In chronological order: Remember Tomorrow, Killers, Prisoner, Flight of Icarus, Powerslave, Stranger in a Strange Land,.Infinite Dreams.

-revelations & where eagles dare
-2 minutes & powerslave
-wasted years & deja vu

Hallowed be thy name,absolute masterpiece
Still life,a hidden gem on that album
The rime of an a…. mariner, another masterpiece
The loneliness of the l…,hard to chose only one from this album because it’s my absolute favorit maiden album and there are so many godly songs here
Infinite dreams/Seventh son of a seventh son, didn’t reach the hight of the previous album but still one of their best albums with sooo many good songs
All the songs is the best of Iron Maiden ❤
w0rd
First time I saw Maiden was in 83 (I actually remember parts of the show, even 4 decades later). Was fortunate to see them on their World Slavery Tour twice as well as "Somewhere on Tour" back in 86'. Saw them in 1988 (with Megadeth opening). Was fortunate to even see Maiden with Blaze Bayley back in 1998. Seen Maiden IIRC 19 times since 1983 and number 20 coming this year. I love their new stuff as well, not just their pre 90's stuff.
Love the video ❤
Heres mine
1. Phantom
2. Drifter
3. Children of the damned
4. Flight of Icarus
5. Ancient mariner
6. stranger in a strange land
7. The evil that men do
Thank you so much!!
For me, it goes like this:
Iron Maiden: Phantom of the Opera
Killers: Innocent Exile
The Number of the Beast: The Number of the Beast
Piece of Mind: To Tame a Land
Powerslave: Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Somewhere in Time: Alexander the Great
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son: Infinite Dreams
Phantom got me into maiden from the Lucozade advert featuring Daley Thompson. Children of the damned, Hallowed, trooper, flash of the blade, rime, powerslave, stranger in a strange land, wasted years, moon child, infinite dreams, 7th son
- Phantom Of The Opera
- Wrathchild
- Hallowed Be Thy Name
- The Trooper

100% agreement on somewhere in time. In my top 10 albums of all time.

Phantom of the Opera
Killers
Hallowed be thy Name
Where Eagles Dare
Powerslave
Alexander the Great
The Evil That Men Do

Phantom, Killers (Title Track), Number of the Beast (Title. First maiden song I heard. One of the most fun to both play and listen to.)
Revelations
2 minutes to Midnight

Infinite Dreams.
1. Phantom of the Opera.
2. Genghis Khan.
3. Hallowed be thy Name.
4. Still Life (my favorite album).
5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
6. Caught Somewhere in Time.

Great chooices Nico. My faves:
1. Phantom of the Opera
2. Murders in the rue Morgue
3. 22 Acacia Avenue
4. To Tame a Land / Where Eagles Dare (sorry I cheated)
5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
6. Sea of Madness
7. 7th Son / Infinite Dreams / The Prophecy (I did it again)
Cheers!
I think it's because the picking pattern is similar - not exactly the same, but I can understand why one would hear a similarity 🙂
@@LicksOfTheBeast indeed, that is a good point! I really love both songs and those sections are quite powerful! Thank you kindly, Nico!
From 1982 to 1988, Iron Maiden had hit albums all the time...! It was with Smith and Dickinson...
I love all the albums, I find your taken on a journey through the 80s era. Each album gets a little better and there's so many memorable songs on each album
I always find it fascinating how there is a natural break in discussion of Maiden albums at Seventh Son, no matter what the context
Great video as always! Here's my list:
1. Phantom of the Opera
2. Killers
3. The Prisoner
4. Revelations
5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
6. Alexander the Great
7. Moonchild
Fun concept, looking forward for more videos!
Phantom, Killers, the Prisoner, To Tame a Land, Rime, Deja Vu, and SSOASS are my faves🤘🏻
Powerslave is in my opinion one of the greatest songs of all time featuring one of the greatest duel guitar solos of all time.
1. Phantom of the Opera
2. Killers (Honorable mention to Innocent Exile, which is, imo, probably the most underrated song Iron Maiden has ever recorded)
3. 22 Acacia Avenue (my favorite song of all time)
4. Revalations
5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
6. Caught Somewhere in Time/Sea of Madness/Stranger in a Strange Land (This is my favorite Iron Maiden album as well and i just cant for the life of me pick between these three songs)
7. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (Second favorite song of all time)
Totally agree about Innocent Exile.
It's actually one of the covers I had most fun with on this channel just because it's so unique!
Somewhere in time......just awesome
Great choices Nico. I love the song Sea of Madness as well. I remember that Maiden played two nights in Toronto for the Somewhere in Time (Somewhere on Tour) concerts.
Charlotte the harlot - innocent exile gangland - quest for fire - flash of the blade - sea of madness - moonchild - public enema number one - chains of misery
faver songs of 3 first albums: 80. Transylvania
81. Ghenghiz khan
82. Children of the damnd
My picks, also not "the best" but the ones that resonates with me the most:
Iron Maiden - Transylvania
Killers - Purgatory/Gengis Khan (ex-aequo)
Number Of The Beast - 22 Acacia Avenue
Piece Of Mind - To Tame A Land
Powerslave - The Duellists
Somewhere In Time - The Lonliness Of The Long Distance Runner
Seventh Son - how can I choose one when every single second of this masterpiece Is still giving me goosebumps 30 years after the first listen???
we share the same songs in a few albums lol! TLOTLDR is amazing!!!
All awesome songs!!
Commodore 64 and BBS brings back memories. Still have it in it's original box. The monitor, tape deck, floppy drives. Lost the printer over the years unfortunately. I need to bring it out again. And as always, Maiden rules.
You are very lucky!! Would definitely be cool to get it up and running. Get hooked on Pirates or Maniac Mansion all over again 😂
Awesome list, wrong sleeve on SSOASS. 41 and I still love to geek out on Maiden!
Remember Tomorrow
Killers
22 Acacia Avenue
Revelations
Rime of the Ancient Marriner
Stranger in a Strange Land
Infinite Dreams
Public Enema No1
Be Quick or be Dead
Sign of the Cross
The Clansman
Thin Line Between Love and Hate
Pascendale
The Legacy
The Man who would be King
Tears of a Clown
Hell on Earth
First time I heard Maiden was late 80s. Someone gave me dodgy bootleg tapes of Seventh Son and Number of the Beast. I played those until the tape deck chewed them to pieces... but it got me hooked. My personal favourite album is Seventh Son - just the sheer drama of it. Amazing. Least favourite is No Prayer for the Dying.
Phantom of the Opera is my #1 favorite ever. It's also the song i warm up to note-for-note on bass. It's practically got every technique (minus slap) in one song. Fingers are totally limber after playing this 🎸
Isn't that a bit like warning up at the gym with your 1RM? 😅😂
@@LicksOfTheBeast 😂
My personal selection:
-Phantom of the Opera
-Drifter
-The Number of the Beast
-To Tame a Land
-Aces High
-Stranger in a Strange Land

Looooove Drifter!!
Their performance of Revelations from Flight 666 is just awesome!

🤜💥🤛
Phantom of the Opera, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Hallowed Be Thy Name (best Maiden song ever), Flight of Icarus, Aces High, Caught Somewhere in Time, Infinite Dreans
1. Strange World
2. Purgatory
3. Hallowed Be Thy Name
4. Die With Your Boots On
5. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
6. Alexander The Great
7. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Cheers mates, Up The Irons!
Infinite dreams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great and powerful lyrics, wonderful riffs, and incredible rhythm changes!!!!!!!!
My favourites from every album are as follows:
Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera. Best iron maiden song full stop. To this day I love it more than any other.
Killers: probably the title track tbh. There are awesome ones on here but it’s literally “Killer”
Number of the Beast: Hallowed Be Thy Name - just yes.
Piece of Mind: Where Eagles Dare! That drum intro just takes that song to a whole other level. The vocals and guitar harmonies are amazing
Powerslave: Rime of Ancient Mariner - 13 minutes of perfect Maiden all in one.
Love it!
All-time favorites:
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner
Fates Warning
The Prophecy
Only the Good Die Young
Honorable mentions:
Gangland
When Two Worlds Collide
The Legacy
The Age of Innocence
Mother of Mercy
Shadows of the Valley
The Parchment
Nice taste!
My top 10 (changes sometimes):
Phantom of The Opera
Tears of a Clown
That Girl
Total Eclipse
Alexander The Great
Hell On Earth
Another Life
The Prophecy
Out Of The Shadows
Brighter Than a Thousand Suns
Phantom of The Opera describes Iron Maiden perfectly.
Some of it was cool but I remember Simon Drake getting on my nerves a little 😅
My favorite songs from each of the first 7 albums:
From IRON MAIDEN (1980):
✓ Phantom Of The Opera
From KILLERS (1981):
✓ Murders In The Rue Morgue
From THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST (1982):
✓ Hallowed Be Thy Name
From PIECE OF MIND (1983):
✓ To Tame A Land
From POWERSLAVE (1984):
✓ Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
From SOMEWHERE IN TIME (1986):
✓ The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner
From SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON (1988):
✓ Infinite Dreams
My favorite is The Trooper!! Love the opening riff
I love Iron maiden and I'm learning to play their songs on guitar with your channel.I love this channel.from Russia!
That's awesome! Thank you
I just love playing adrians part of the sea of madness riff. Its so cool!!
Infinite dreams/caught sit/hallowed… how can I possibly choose one out of the 3? What I can do is choose in which of the 3 Bruce sings best: infinite dreams.
Banger of a video discussion, loved it!
1) 2 minutes to midnight
2) Infinite Dreams
3) Rime
4) The Evil That Men Do
5) Caught Somewhere in Time
HM) Powerslave, Trooper, Purgatory
1. Transylvania
2. Wrathchild
3. Hallowed Be Thy Name (22 Acacia Avenue is a close 2nd)
4. The Trooper
5. Powerslave
6. Caught Somewhere In Time
Cause as you can see, I definitely need it 😅
Phantom.
Genghis

Still life
Powerslave
The loneliness...
Infinite
💪🏼😉
Prowler, Wrathchild, 22 Acacia, Eagles, Powerslave, Wasted Years, Clairvoyant
Great vid, mate. Brilliant breakdown of the guitar parts too.
It's difficult to choose 'favourites' ...!
Remember Tomorrow/Killers/Number of the Beast/Flight of Icarus/Can't choose a single track from Powerslave!/Wasted Years/The Evil That Men Do
Iron Maiden - Tie between Phantom of the Opera and Strange World
Killers - Killers
The Number of the Beast - 22 Acacia Avenue
Piece of Mind - Revelations
Powerslave - Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Somewhere in Time - Stranger in a Strange Land
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - Infinite Dreams
No Prayer for the Dying - I'll be honest, it's been a while since of listened to this album but I remember my last favorite being Mother Russia.
Fear of the Dark - Judas Be My Guide
The X Factor - Sign of the Cross
Virtual XI - The Clansman
Brave New World - Ghost of the Navigator
Dance of Death - Dance of Death
A Matter of Life and Death - Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
The Final Frontier - The Talisman
The Book of Souls - If Eternity Should Fail
Senjutsu - Hell on Earth
can't go wrong on this one, so many great songs 🤘
I was into maiden for about 2 years, from early 82 until summer of 83. Looking back over 43 years in the ultimate analysis, the final analysis, The one song that stands the test of time for me, is wasted years. The subject matter, and in particular Adrian Smith's guitar solo is one of the most perfect guitar solos ever composed. I know, to each their own I get it. But that's my take.
That is one hell of a solo and def one I will be remembering on my death-bed thinking about wasted years
Ps.
Looking forward to the other 2 videos on this
The Aftermath
Great morose atmosphere and great lyrics
“Where mustard gas and barbwire bloom”
Great song, and Janick has a sick solo on there!
Fun and insightful, thank you!
My personal faves from the first 7:
IM: Phantom;
K: Genghis Kahn;
NotB: Hallowed;
PoM: Revelations;
PS: Rhyme;
SiT: Loneliness; and
7th Son: Clairvoyant
Why? Bass player! 😋
Bass player and masochist apparently. 😂😂
@@LicksOfTheBeast well, you’re not wrong… 😋
Brilliant Video Nico! Nice to learn about your faves, Somewhere in Time is a special one for sure!
My favourites from the line-up:
Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera
Killers - Wrathchild
Number of the Beast - Hallowed be thy Name (The opening lyrics and instrumental work is chilling!)
Piece of Mind - The Trooper
Powerslave - Rime of the Ancient Mariner (what a song!)
Somewhere in Time - Alexander the Great (one of my favourites to play on guitar, amazing live and a great hype song) but the whole album is 🤘
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - Can I Play With Madness? (Easy pick, it was the first Maiden song and video I experienced and my gateway to the band! Holds a special place for me)
Welcome in all the new folks joining us 😁
1. Remember Tomorrow
2. Killers
3. Hallowed Be Thy Name
4. Revelations
5. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
6. Sea of Madness
Either way , honestly , there is no way to name the greatest Maiden song, too many "greatest" songs =)
Better to name your 10 best songs or do it like Nicko just did with his video!
PS. Chasing love, I take it you mean Wasting love ? ;D
@@mathias6423 Where Eagles Dare is my favorite Maiden song. To each their own.
@@B_E_C_K You are the first person I have ever heard that could name your 1 favorite Maiden song, I have never seen a Maiden fan do this before :D
I could not do it, too many great songs, too many favorites, I could give you top 10 but never one song, I am too big of a Maiden fan for that I guess hehe.
"Los Angeles can you feel it?!??" definitely got added to every listen after Live After Death LOL
Powerslave - Aces High.
All bangers, no doubt!
I think Murders might be the Di'Anno song Bruce did best!
That and Twilight Zone from his audition demo for me 😊
Hallowed is such a perfect song, it's unbelievable. Their Hammersmith '82 rendition should be put on the next Voyager.
Hahahaha yeah that version is beyond spectacular
Phantom of the Opera
Killers/Purgatory
Hallowed Be Thy Name
The Trooper/To tame the land
Aces High
Somewhere in Time/Alexander the Great
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
That would be my ranking but I really cannot decide which of those options if I were to pick only one
1. Phantom Of The Opera
2. Killers
3. Hallowed Be Thy Name
4. To Tame A Land
5. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
6. Alexander The Great
7. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Great video, Nico, I’ll have to pick my favorites before watching your subsequent episodes on this topic! I’ll respond back later with my pics for these albums, but wanted you to know I really enjoyed this offering and wish you a great rest of the week and weekend 🤠
Thanks so much! Always appreciate your support 🙏🏻
Definitely curious to see where our tastes converge and where they differ. 😊
LOL @ Angel/Gambler 😂
And yeah, it's definitely a mood thing for me too...with any music, really 🙂
I love Powerslave but I couldn't put it above Rime of the Ancient Mariner. As a bass player the section after the slow section back to the main riff kicking back in is possibly my favourite bit of Maiden. Honourable mention to Losfer Words
