We end up listening to a full albums worth of music just because we repeat our favorite ones like 30 times each. 😆 Edit - Back when I was a young player in the early 90s I once listened to Marty's solo on Lucretia and Tornado of Souls for over an hour on repeat and I wasn't nearly good enough to play them at that point. I'd listen to one and repeat it until I started to not get the head tingles anymore, go back to the other... repeat until I had no more feel goods left in my spine to release. 🤣

Wooooo Ritchie Blackmore 70’s domination and Blind Fucking Guardian. BG’s leads are so underrated because they are so sing songy and melodic, but they are so good and memorable.
I was so shocked after listening to 80s Scorpions in World Wide Live(...and loving it,) to hearing what they were up to in the 70s with Uli. It was mind blowing to the baby me.

Very clean playing, great tone, great mixing... but if you notice RIP is not as loud as many other albums of that time due to how it was mastered, this helps the intsruments cut throguh as they are not all compressed to hell and competing with each other.
@Mr-Foad That's interesting about the mastering. Listening again, I think you're right. I also just listened to the 2004 remix, and the guitar solo doesn't stand out as much as the original. I think they may have more reverb on the rhythm guitar in the 2004 version, which muddies the mix.
Alexi was a great guitarist, vocalist, frontman and songwriter. There are not many people I would call that. If he would have been a good lyricist, he would have literally been a perfect musician.
Oh man, including Sails of Charon is a sign of taste. Mr. Roth is a guitar genius, love his solos in early Scorpions. Have been to his concert in St.Petersburg in 2016 where he played his old songs reimagined. What an experience it has been.
For me, Winter Madness is my number one. It's cool to see it on the list, even though I don't play guitar, it feels like I have a good sense for the subject.

“I am a Viking” is a brilliant choice. Needed to be an Yngwie song from rising force or marching out and I think that is the strongest solo from those two albums. Still insanely fast / clean / melodic 40 years later.
I always enjoyed "Soldier without faith" more than "I am a Viking" but the latter was more popular for sure. Personally, I could pick an Yngwie solo from every year between 1984 and 2002 (except 1987) that would be my top pick for this list. 1992- not "under a glass moon"...how about "fire and ice"?...1995- not "crystal mountain"...how about "voodoo"? 1999- sorry Necrophagist...how about "Leonardo" instead? its crazy how time just reached a certain point , probably early 90s when power metal and prog started to get some more popularity, when guitar players technicality levels just went THROUGH THE ROOF. like if you compare sweet leaf and and under a glass moon, its no comparison in technicality. Something switched, and guitar players reached a whole new level of speed and precision
Watching this makes me really realize how much that short sweet young Randall has influenced guitar playing and shredding and the neoclassical side of metal. He really brought with him some of the greatest gifts in his playing. He is by far one of my favorites I have a guitar dedicated to him. What an absolute legend. R.I.P.
Mikael underestimates his abilities as a lead player. He may not be the most technically proficient player, but his playing is tasty as fuck. Also, hopefully that was something Mikael was saying prior to Fredrik Akkeson joining Opeth, because he’s a beastly lead guitarist.
Mike is the best guitar player in Opeth, rhythm or lead. His countless solos before Fred joined are all insane. Fred's solos are also great as hell, but Mike had that sorrow on top.
The only thing i would change in this list, is putting a7x nobody's solo. Only synyster gates can play a solo thats no stop shredding and make it soooo tasty and melodic

I love how smoothly that solo translates through every change in the rhythm guitar and drums throughout it. It’s like the rhythm section was written for the solo yet it‘s from an earlier point in the song and was probably written before it.

Given the list is metal solos, you'd assume they'd pick something that's not hard rock. Solid picks off Daath's self-titled, Soilwork, or even Grand Magus for 2010 in the mainstream. Tons more in the underground. Ihsahn maybe. Hell I'd probably pick Blind Guardian - Voice in the Dark over rock acts for a metal list and that album is one of my least favorites by them.

I love how smoothly that solo translates through every change in the rhythm guitar and drums throughout it. It’s like the rhythm section was written for the solo yet it‘s from an earlier point in the song and was probably written before it.

Given the list is metal solos, you'd assume they'd pick something that's not hard rock. Solid picks off Daath's self-titled, Soilwork, or even Grand Magus for 2010 in the mainstream. Tons more in the underground. Ihsahn maybe. Hell I'd probably pick Blind Guardian - Voice in the Dark over rock acts for a metal list and that album is one of my least favorites by them.

Jeff Loomis' "Zero order phase" has so many solos that blow these out the water. underrated album that never gets the appreciation it deserved.
