- Made a band-pass sub box years ago and blew a sub in it. Time to replace the woofer. Use headphones for most bass at end of video.

What is the width and length of that box?
Hi brandon, the box dimensions are 15.5 inches wide x 15.5 inches deep x 17.5 inches tall. I was able to make 2 of these boxes from 1 sheet of 3/4" MDF. MDF came 4' x 8'. Also, when I bought the sub it came with some recommended specifications for building different types of boxes and the amount of air the sub would need inside the box. It also came with the template for cutting out the hole for the sub. If you calculate the amount of air in this box it is about 1.8 cubic feet or 3,136 cubic inches. I replaced the whole harman kardon system in my son's 2002 BMW 325i. I mounted a bandpass with a single 12 inch dual Cerwin Vega to the rear deck. Let me tell you, this thing hits hard. All the bass through the ports on the rear deck. All the bass delivered to the cabin, nothing stays in the trunk. Hits harder than my son's friend's Tahoe with 2 12 inch kicker. Hope you put that bandpass to good use again after 5 years. 👍

Thanks for the comment. The white silicone I used tends to work well as a flexible gasket but it would be cool to have a rubber one too. It would make for even easier sub swaps :)
I like your video and I love Pioneer subs but it looks like a werewolf cut that mdf for you lol. I'm just fucking with ya busting your chops! I have never in my life ever cut a piece of mdf board completely straight even on a table saw. I can't tell you how many sub boxes I have built. Thank god for liquid nails, wood glue, and great foam!!

Will that box design work for most lower end 12" subs? Do you have the xxx xxx xxx for it?
Yes, this should work just fine for any sub under 500watts rms.
@@eezbestbro1943 wattage doesn't make a difference. Enclosure designs are picky, some subs don't do good in 4th order bandpass's. Some subs don't do good in ported enclosures in general. It all depends on the subwoofer. Every Speck of a subwoofer box is dependent on the subwoofer, the only thing that's not is the port. The port is dependent on the volume of the inside of the enclosure. You can't just slap a new subwoofer into a random enclosure and expect it to sound as good.

@SethH88 It's very similar to the Sony Explode in "XMAX" and FS ratings. The lower wattage subs always have worked great in mid sized Bandpass enclosures because of the Low Box Volume requirements.

bro I had a confusion between 3 box which were good for home are bandpass,sealed and ported box for subwoofer plz tell me
all 3 of those boxes are for subwoofers. The box with the most accurate sound reproduction is the sealed box. I like sealed the most but they are the quietest. For example if you are listening to classical music you want a sealed enclosure. if you use a ported enclosure you will have to tune it to make sure the tones are accurate and the response is flat.
@@eezbestbro1943 that's not necessarily true. Sealed box can give decent sound reproduction, but so can any sealed enclosure. As long as you are using a good software to design it and you're not just using rule of thumb the entire time, you can come up with some extremely high-quality enclosures. I wouldn't put a sealed enclosure in any of my builds. Like you said, they aren't loud. The only time you can get a loud sealed is if it's a 4th order bandpass like you showed. Personally, I'm a fan of the 6th order bandpass enclosures.
@SethH88 Bandpass isn't in the "SEALED" category just because one chamber is sealed. It's a box designed for only one note but at a high volume (20-37HZ). Sealed and ported have range but the sealed (NOT BANDPASS) is known for tight and accurate bass.

What's the best sub for a bandpass
Hi Joey so the sub I put in this box was very similar to the original sub I built this box for. That said I would recommend buying the sub of your choice then looking at the spec sheet your sub comes with to see what frequencies it reproduces the most respective to the enclosure type. What I mean is that the sub I bought had a spec sheet that showed 3 types of possible enclosures and which frequencies each enclosure reproduced the most. I built a sealed enclosure for more accurate bass but the frequencies were higher then I built the band pass enclosure which lowered the frequencies and has a specific sweet spot where the sub hits the hardest. If you have a box lying around I would measure the inside cubic area and buy a sub that likes that amount of space. Rule of thumb for me is the higher the RMS wattage the bigger the box needs to be. The box in the video is 1.8 cubic feet and the RMS is around 400 watts. 12 inch sub.
I have two boss cx122 1400 watt chaos 12in subs that I bought and broke in. I had a prefab bandpass box but when I installed my Subs and played them I noticed a lot of air getting out so I wanted to build a box more specific for those 12's. Thanks for all of your help I really appreciate it. And where can I go to find the specs?
Hey Joey so I googled your sub and found the spec online .www.bossaudio.com/product/car-audio-sound-system-auto-stereo-single-voice-coil-subwoofer-boss-audio-cx122/ The RMS is 700 watts and it recommends a sealed box with 1.2 cubic feet of air space inside. If you have a sealed box you can measure it to see how close it comes to 1.2 and seal the inside edges of the box with silicone. If not then I would build a sealed box specifically for that sub. The height and width will pretty much be the same so its possible to use those as given dimensions and do some algebra. Eg. 14x14xD=1.2 cubic feet. 1 cubic foot = 1728 cubic inches. 1.2x1728=2073.6 cubic inches. 14x14xD=2074. 2074/14/14=10.58 inches. So, the minimum inside dimensions of the box would be 14x14x10.6. You would add the thickness of the material you use to these numbers to make the cuts and assemble. 3/4 inch MDF used would make the measurements 15.5x15.5x12.1. Maybe add an extra inch just for the air the sub displaces.

I think they would be fine its just the maker likes the idea of a sealed box to have more accurate tones. You can put them in a bandpass like the one in the video and I think they would hit hard :)

the cabinet was built with a 35 dollar 3/4inch mdf board. only needed half of the board. also a few screws and some wood glue and some silicone. i would say about 50 dollars in materials. the black carpeting was 20 dollars per roll.

Hmm. I haven't made a subwoofer box for DJ equipment before. I'm not sure what brands they use but I know the box will have to be based on the speaker you buy. I'll let you know when I research some information.

@@eezbestbro1943 The RMS does not determine box size! RMS stands for Root-Mean-Square. This is not used to design an enclosure. The RMS of the subwoofer has absolutely nothing to do with the enclosure! Dont get it confused! Because if this were true, you would have to build a different enclosure for the same subwoofer if you give it different amounts of power.
