Another hard to understand word was 插掣 4:34 English translation - plug it in. 插 = plug, does 掣 mean the head of the power cord? In the dictionary, I found that 掣 can mean a button, power button, power switch, but not a head of the power cord

Epic content. Your mother's Cantonese is so clear and pure. And I say epic, out of hope, that coming generations will not let the colours of China disappear. So these types of videos be propagated. This channel is very dear to me. Just as a side question. I feel that learning Jyutping has made me focus on it too much. When I try to speak, and even worse, when I hear a word, I inadvertently try to think of the matching tone and spelling in Jyutping. I feel that this is a huge impairment on the way to natural speaking and even a way of preventing true feeling for tones of a word. I just wanted to state this. I don't know what to do else though.
I'm a bit late, but this is my suggestion. Romanization is never something you should rely on, and should be something you drop as soon as you can associate sounds with characters. This advice is also similar for Japanese, where most people would recommend you to only use romaji for as long as you need it, or even forego it entirely in favour of just drilling the sound to the kana and kanji. It's different when it comes to Chinese because instead of learning alphabetical symbols, you learn unique characters for every single word, so drilling is just harder - but you won't make progress quickly if you rely on romanization.
Brittany, Enjoying your videos. Try this dish 1 sea bass around 2.5 pounds - carefully remove the center bone. My mom is quite skilled at this part. Use ground pork, shitake , fresh water chestnuts and mix them together. Careful place the mixture into the sea bass. Now the trick is to ensure the meat is cooked but the sea bass is not raw. For dessert , make some homemade not from a can red bean congee. My mom also makes good congee with thousand year old egg and ground pork. I do miss yum cha - pandemic hurt that industry. Got to run - having home made fried rice with chicken and sausage. I do miss salted fish.

@@lf00t there's already english translations done for you in the video... use those instead of isolated translation, as the author uses puts in the work to make the English sentences actually make sense. If you don't have that, then at least search up words in compounds

Can someone explain why the need to blanche the meat at 1:40, before cutting it smaller?
Blanching the meat cleans the meat giving you a clear soup broth and not so much of that foamy stuff floating on top of the soup.

“...愛嚟...” means to use it for (a purpose). I see you're trying to do a lot of isolated literal translations... it doesn't really work that way.
