c 只为遇见你 Cantonese isn't a independent language , it is 1 of the many dialects of Chinese languages , widely used in Guangzhou ,Hong Kong, Macau , are you high in weed or coke ? you are jumping from city to province then country, all over the universe , claim down !!

    • @hermanchow1405

c 只为遇见你 so 99.8% the citizens of Taiwan speak mandarin , therefore should declared as a independent language ? PS you might misunderstand the meaning of independence !

c 只为遇见你 Guangzhou (canton) for your thought is a independent province, separated from mainland China as a nation ,so Cantonese is a separated language ?

not allowed to question the government, NSL already in some school curriculum, CCP are twisting facts for kids in HK as they are in China. Hopefully it won't work though, since HK for the time being still have access to the free internet so they know the CCP is total bullshit.

+Calif Chong yeah, I actually am fascinated with East Asian languages and I studied Japanese in high school. I especially like the written language. Just hearing the language and seeing people speak it reminds me of all that, and even the way that translations sometimes don't fit perfectly in English, it introduces a totally different way of conceptualizing things, so I always prefer more literal translations. Thanks so much for the video! I think that a lot of people are just naturally interested in some foreign languages but don't have much exposure, which is why videos like this can be really inspiring for people who want to get started.

She just seems to be one of those people in Hong Kong that wants to be identified as a ‘foreigner’ because as you know a lot of HK people are whitewashed and worship white people... She just looks hella stupid in my opinion, just speak your language and be proud of your origins rather than put on something artificial.

Easy? Are you kidding? That's the best example how to make people give up. So many tones, speaking extremely fast.

Actually most people in this video are speaking quite slowly, because some of them are old and some come from abroad. Some even have to think for a while before answering.

This is the most natural speech (I'm Cantonese). I believe that applies to all other Easy * languages. You have to train your ears before you begin to understand little by little.

I lived here since 1998, the only cantonese word I've learn is this "diu lei lo mo chau hai!", try practicing this words as a greeting, you'll be mastering cantonese in no time. ;)

Cantonese is so difficult for an English speaker especially the amount of homophones and picking up the tones

I find it interesting that if you call an elderly woman whom you have no relation to, a "granny" in English, it wouldn't be considered polite. I once saw a Russian film (Ballad of a Soldier) where a young man called an elderly woman, whom, I believe, he had no relation to, "babushka", which is the Russian word for an elderly lady or granny, if I remember correctly. You did the same in this video and I'm beginning to wonder if it's the same in other languages "across the pond", so to speak.

Old comment so you might not see, but likely it's an honorific used for older people, which they translate as "granny" because it's the same word you'd use for your actual granny, but the context makes the connotation different. Japanese does the same thing. You can think of it as "Mrs. old lady" or simply "ma'am".
