  • My 2006 F150 3rd Brake light is leaking, and I decide to fix it with an LED after market version from Amazon.
The downside to this LED 3rd brake light is that it isn’t plug and play, but that’s ok. I show you how to determine which wires do what, strip them, and wire in the new light.
If you are having problem with water leaking into your truck from the 3rd brake light, this fix will work for you. If you would prefer to just swap the OEM brake light with another OEM light and now have to spice wires together, I have linked the OEM version below too.

Here are the parts I used to change my 3rd Brake Light to LED.

Hey if you would have pulled the three wires theres a harness plug in there that light is plug and play you just need to pull it out far enough to reach the plug

Make sure you have it seated correctly. You can also use 100% silicone to make sure it’s sealed well

@@IAmAFixer It already does all that right now, but I will see tomorrow if it is not in the glass packaging that is below the light the water enters. And if it is in the glass packaging, will there be some silicone to seal it well and remove all the glass? Thank you very much a thousand blessings

I almost made the same mistake I'm glad i watched a few videos i knew there was a simpler way to replace That light other than cutting wires...great video though 👍

I learned after the fact that the connector is just buried way up in the roof. If you pull, it should pull out and you can just plug it in.

Hey Jeremy, I've gotta take a look at my 3rd brake light on my 2000 F-350. Of course it's shape is a lot different, I may be getting water down around mine. Great video my friend!! You learnt me sumptin 😃👍👍 Jay.

Ha. Glad I could help. I think the OEM version would make a better seal and probably wouldn’t need the silicone. This one, unfortunately, just didn’t deal well, so I had to use the silicone. Glad you learnt something! 😜

The OEM stinks. Not enough gasket to seal.

Anyone know how to turn on the cargo lights in a 2005 F150? Bulbs are new, brake light works.

I am getting a water leak in my 04 F150. I’m not sure how to determine if it’s the 3rd brake light or the window. It only happens during higher pressure car washes and I don’t see any leaking during rain.

Likely the brake light. I would start there. Relatively easy and inexpensive fix

You shouldn't have to put Silicone around it being that you put the gasket.I just ordered my 3rd brake light for my f150 and i currently have silicone on mine and it looks bad and when it rains seems like it releases chemical because i have a film on back window from it!

Aftermarket light gaskets suck, they still leak. I wish the gaskets on them were better.

I found out after the fact that it is. but the connector is buried deep in the roof, so you need to pull the wire out a good amount to find the connector.

It is if you buy OEM.
