@@jacobshorees you should ask the seller for the IMEI number and use it on the apple website to see if it's legit. If the seller refuses to give you the IMEI then it's probably fake

@@JA-dh4mj depends. If you change the IMEI on a stolen phone, yes it is illegal. If you change IMEI on your own phone to a random IMEI, it is also illegal. There is a chance that you can steal someone else's phone IMEI. If you change the IMEI to another IMEI that you own (you have a broken phone motherboard with clean IMEI) Sure, you can use no problem. Cheap and some brand phones loose their IMEI number if their EFS partition was accidentally wipes by the user. In that case, wiped phone motherboard IMEI will be 0s. You have to change it for it to be in service. If you know it's IMEI, great. If you don't, you can use spare broken phone *that you own* IMEI number and change it to that.

Most likely the eBay store she bought it from, may have got a phone from an auction, refurbished it, and resold it. BUT forgot to do a imei check.
