  • In this vlog I will be exploring Haddon Hall and sharing its unique history. Haddon Hall stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the River Wye. The hall is one of the finest examples of a Medieval and Tudor manor house.

Wonderful house. Yes it's been used in so many films including The Other Boleyn Girl and also the BBC's Jane Eyre in 2006.

What a treat. I'm struck by the remarkable preservation at the hall, as if the Manners family was aware of it's heritage value beginning all the way back in the 15th century. They clearly had money to spend, yet their heirs chose not to update the great chamber and parlor, nor to sweep away the hall to build a drawing room and dining room. That process of updating and remodeling is exemplified at Belvoir Castle, the Ducal seat, which has little of historical interest as a result. Haddon Hall is like a warren of heritage prizes, and charming, to boot! Thanks so much for the tour.
P.S. I agree that 22 pounds is too much, that such a day charge should include parking, tea and a souvenir booklet, IMO. However, like you, I'd pay it!

Beautiful. I love how the older rooms were not remodeled, giving one that time travel experience. Being able to see the changes in interior design over the years up close would be very interesting. Nice job on the slow panning too. Found myself rewatching bits for the details. Just found you today and have subbed, looking forward to more. Thank you :)

I've been to Haddon many times as I live very near it's beautiful and we'll worth visiting. Over the years it has become a bit more expensive you used to get a yearly visitors card at a good price and I always visited alot the tudor group was fantastic but that seems to have been dropped also. I wish they would again bring it into more people's grasp as the shop is very good and restaurant but the price of tickets is creating a barrier to many people obviously the estate needs to bring money in for upkeep but perhaps if was slightly less to enter more people would come and spend. It is very beautiful

Excellent video on the hall, thank you...and I rather like the informal gardens. I would imagine other than directly around the house where would have been a kitchen garden, a knot garden (when they became fashionable) and maybe a rose garden,. Away from the house would have remained fairly natural, easng into the estate farm land, so off setting the marvellous structure

Great choice! The gardens were fantastic and it would be great to have a time machine to see exactly how they were laid out. Thanks for the comment 👍

Does his Lordship still reside there? It seems to be rather sparsely furnished. All of these old castles seem to be very dark inside. They must have used some high powered lights while filming Downton Abbey.

It is unclear as to what was on the site after the Norman invasion of 1066. The Doomsday Book of 1086 doesn’t mention the hall . The building that we see today is mostly Tudor.
