Watched to the end as usual. I wouldn’t have thought water that shallow would hold fish, so yet again I’ve learned something from your video. Thank you!
Another class video Senan, I watch most of your videos to the end. The wild brown trout videos are the best 👌 some I've watched a few times 🤣. Fishing for trout on rivers with ultra light gear is my favourite, size 2 silver mepps with blue dots are my go to. Keep these videos coming, there great inspiration 👏
Great little vid and a lovely way to spend an evening. To avoid handling the fish I use a pair of pliers to pinch the shank of the hook and then just shake them off. Minimal interference with the obliging little trouties !
Yes the barbs are crushed off a lot of my little spinners also as you can see in my other videos. This one was more than likely a new spinner just out of the packet, fairly sure I had the barbs crushed, maybe there was a little bit of a the barb left from the crush but mostly it was off from what I can remember, this is an old video.
Great video! You pulled heaps of fish from a tiny stream I wouldn’t have held any trout at all. Although some of the fish were just a little bigger than the lures we use to fish for trout here in NZ :). I’ve recently bought an ultra light and I’ll be using your techniques. Love the short casts, the quick bail arm closure, and the speed of the retrieve.
I keep the 5cm rapalas for the lake they are too expensive to break on the river with these small trout 😂🤝 they are great tho, and the 5cm salmo minnows!
Savage Gear also make the best spinners IMHO. They are called ‘Rotex’ spinners and spin with the slightest retrieve and have great shine. Bit more expensive than the Mepps though.
@dmp2000uk I think they are absolutely crap, quality wise, Mepps are in their own league across Europe Canada America and even Australia. The savage gear spinners are very poor in my opinion, just a cheap mass produced product, don’t spin half as well as a Mepps.
@@senanstanleyfishing I'm hoping to get out on to the River Aire on Monday, near Leeds, can't wait. Thanks for uploading such great videos, keep 'em coming mate.
I've been having an absolute blast catching a ton of trout on small rivers with mepps, inspired by your vids. I only use size 2 ones now though, i find you're less likely to end up with a fish with the three hooks stuck in its mouth, which can be annoying to deal with. Have caught lots of TINY trout on a size 2 though, doesnt seem to faze them 😂
Good stuff I’m glad you’ve been getting out 😄💪 once it’s working for you that’s the main thing, it’s funny I actually caught my biggest river trout a few years ago on the size 0 Mepps , tiny spinner, but the big trout wanted it!
Senan great video went out for the day on my local river in Co Down, then home to see this new video 🎉, obviously conditions where good in most of Ireland then yesterday. The mepps never fail, I’ve really took to Abu Garcia reflex spinner only draw back it’s 7g but all size of trout seem to hit it. 16 inch to 6 inch trout on it yesterday. Great colour selection tho
@@senanstanleyfishing can be sort of a problem in the runs/swims where I have to up my retrieve speed, might be a bigger issues again when the water levels drop. something I came across by chance when I lost all my size 1’s on trees 😂 was the only spinner I had left in the box, has worked so well, you should try if your ever need something a bit heavier , great videos keep them coming 💪🏻💪🏻
Hi from wales Senan 👍🏻 big thank you for your vids mate, I love the simplicity of your style and setup. I’ve just reviewed my diawa ninja and am currently waiting on my SG4 to arrive in the post so you should be on commission!! If it’s not too much trouble would you able to do a video on your full setup showing everything from leader length, which knots you use on your swivels, size of swivels etc? As a complete novice there are few places you can go to get a start to finish guide from someone’s opinion you trust, most anglers assume you know the basics and skip over a lot of the stuff is beginners struggle with! I lost 4 comments yesterday because my braid to flouro knot wouldn’t hold up so maybe swivels is the way forward!
I will have to do a video on setting up the rod - it’s not too hard once you see it done once , the knots are all repetition, once you do them 5 times you will remember them your whole life ☺️🤝 it’s all simple bits tho easy to pick up, il try to do a simple video soon, wrecked this evening, just in off the lake, lots of sun!
@@senanstanleyfishing that would be great mate, for 99% of your subscribers it will probably be garbage but for a few of us it would be priceless 👍🏻 hope you had a good day on the lake, take it easy

hi just wondering what rivers you go to because me and my dad have been fishing in cahir, ardfinnan, clonmel and a few other places and havent caught a fish , we have been trying for almost 2 months and we have been using spinnerbaits, flies and spoons so we dont now were to go
Hi, the trout season is closed now for Ireland. But when the season opens again get out and keep trying. I don’t name any river locations on my channel. But I’m sure you’re fishing in the right places, you will figure them out with time. 💪💪
Just found your channel and subbed, 👍,, How would you compare these lures to the Abu Droppen,?? I've just returned to fishing after many years, and I've decided to go with the ultra light trout area style to begin with,, I'm a pensioner so funds are tight,, Great video,, thank you from West Yorkshire..
The usual reasons are: braid is thinner vs mono (for the same strength), so can cast further; also braid is less stretchy, so for some lure fishing you can feel bites better; though for trout spinning this wouldn't make a difference. The fluorocarbon is to reduce visibility of the line (same refractive index as water), it is also more abrasion resistant, so isn't damaged as much when it comes into contact with rocks/snags on the bottom.
Awesome stuff Senan Love your vids also thanks for the pin last vid!!! EDIT: Funny thing is i was fishing in the river with a mepps with my friend yesterday!
Cracking trout the colors are unreal .just aftr going tru the spinner box and found 3 mepps size 1 and mepps thunder bug size 0.Bud do u think it's batter useing swivel to leader .senan what size swivel u use on your leader line.i have sonik lite tec rod 1./8gm 1000 reel .ten lb braid and 7lb leader bud u think it's bit of havey. Cracking trout stream.srry abt spelling.
Don’t worry about the spelling man we’re fishermen not poets 😁🤝 ya that will work fine, the swivel to the braid and leader helps the spinner to spin better, I’d recommend using a small swivel! I don’t use the swivel if I’m using wobbler style lures tho.
@yep.ultralight braid to micro swivel to 50cm of 6lb fleurocarbon tied directly to spinner with no snap ☺️ is best for spinners. For wobblers, I attach the wobbler using a micro snap.
Fleurocarbon has a good abrasive resistance to rocks, braid would get sliced straight off if it touched a sharp stone in the river while being used alone. Fleuro is also invisible underwater, vital for clear water trout fishing.
Great video mate, really useful tips, nice 20 mins while the mrs is in the shops … In situations when you don’t have your waders mate, do you find it more difficult to keep on the move? Just I don’t have waders and somewhere as shallow 😢
It’s still possible to fish this style from the river bank, but it’s very good for the spinner to keep the rod tip parallel to the water, the spinner spins are the ideal angle for the fish to come after it, obviously access points are an issue when on the bank though, it just means more walking ☺️
@@senanstanleyfishing Have you tried switching to barbless singles though? There was a moment in this video 4:50 where one point of the treble was caught in the net and another in the fish. Not having the crush the barbs means the hooks last longer (don't rust where the barb was), and the point can penetrate more easily than with the crushed barb.
I’ve tried those bluefox vibrax spinner last year, I actually gave them away that evening, absolutely hated them they didn’t spin half as good in the current. 😂 but im glad they are working for you man, that’s the main thing! 🤝💪 once they work ! 🐟

Can't see the point in spinning for tiny little trout. It can not be good for any river or for the trout for that matter. Small hungry trout will pull anything no skill needed. I would not class this as fishing just sad really.
You know what's sad, commenting on a fishing video telling the creator how sad it is to use the method of fishing they use in the video, especially when spinning for little trout in a small river or burn is an incredibly fun and a non harmful way to catch trout, and spinning actually does require some skill believe it or not, having to take account for water level, colour, temp, baitfish, and even the direction the fish are facing, rather then you making a rather insensitive comment on a good video beacuse your jealous that he catches more fish than you in a day on a method you probably don't know how to use without getting mad and swapping back to a worm
@Connorfish8ng I just ignored his comment as that person was probably having a bad day and used is 1 brain cell to type out that message before crying himself to sleep in the corner 😄👍

They have a slime coat that protects them from bacteria, if you wipe it off with dry hands they will die after release
