I have affiliate links in the video’s description box of all the tackle used for anyone looking to order some new tackle, the links will take you directly to the items used. ☺️👍
I’ve just discovered your channel, and I’m really pleased to have done so. The two biggest surprises are the relative shallowness of the water in which you are taking the fish, and the speed of the retrieve. As someone who has only ever fly fished, I would have thought that such a fast retrieve would scare the fish, but clearly that’s not the case! Anyway, I am now subscribed, and spinning tackle as per your recommendations is on order. I suspect that it’s not quite as easy as you make it look, but I can’t wait to give it a bash. Have you made any videos about fishing the lake from the shore, or are they all focussed on fishing from the boat? Great videos - keep up the good work!
I use a tiny swivel between my braid and leader when using spinners, there’s no need for a clip when using a spinner, they actually spin better without any extra weight on the line
I bought myself a spinner similar to the one used here. Im gonna use it tomorrow at a lake that has trout considering im a bass fishermen, I dont get the opportunity to catch em often. Glad the lure works!
Spinners don’t work as well on lakes / slow flowing water , you will catch more trout on lakes with small jerkbaits , look up duo spearhead ryuki 60/70/80mm in Wildhunter.ie
@@senanstanleyfishing Ah ok. The lake is relatively small. Idk if that'll make a difference, because its too big to be a pond, but really small for a lake. Glad for the info, I might have to get some jerkbaits of different sizes considering trout and Muskie at times. Thanks for lettin me know !
The small tributary’s are great for trout fishing aren’t they did you ever use any size zeros i find the gold and red spot in the zero works really good aswell on the small rivers Well done on the catch 👍
for trout fishing in a lake do you think meps are good ? i have old #2 meps from my grand father.. also is it possible to use a worm on it ? Or should i use only the spinner
Im living near the lee, a couple of miles west of cork. Was fishing for the last 5 days. Used worms, maggots, on the ground, halfway with a float?, mepp spinners etc.....not a single bite. And no, im not a beginner, fishing for almost 50 years, mainly coarse fishing
This rod would handle any trout once you can get down close to the water to net the fish man ☺️ wouldn’t try to lift a fish out with it, it’s super light 💪 they do heavier versions than this one
what’s the crack lad. cmere to me would a size 3 spinner work there for catching big trout. i’m only starting out and i’m using a size 1 mepps silver with blue dots. and i’m only catching small trout about 15cms long i want to be catching bigger trout. haven’t tested anything other than size 1. fishing in camcor river
Hey man, you will still catch big trout with the size 1 spinner, bigger fish won’t mind what size the lure is big or small. If it’s a shallow stretch use the smaller spinner, if it’s deeper try the heavier lure. But the trout will happily take a small lure high in the water. Once it comes across them, and they are feeding, it’s game on 👍
Iv had a salmon on a size one silver with red dots , and a 29/30lb pike in a size 2 black n yellow but saying that my biggest trout 3.4lb was on a copper size 3 but I think if you put it by them and their hungry/angry they’ll take anything. Iv had 6” trout take 4” lures as most take out of aggression in my opinion
How's it going senan , new subber here and an amateur fisher , literally just started . I have a question.. I have a carp rod about 12 fr , 10lb line on it , am I wasting my time fishing for trout ? Would I get away with putting a spinner or lure on it and having a go the way you are here ?? Kind regards from Dublin
Hey, so of course you could spin away with the rod, the only issue is you won’t get much feeling or fun out of lure fishing with the long carp rod on a small river. The shorter ultralight rods are built so that you can cast in under trees accurately, you can work the lures in a way that a long soft rod wouldn’t allow, you will still catch fish with the rod you have don’t get me wrong, but if you want to maximise your catch rate and get the best results, I’d say swap for a set up similar to what I’ve been using ☺️👍 The heaviest mono like I’d suggest for these wild brown trout on a river would be maximum 6lb, and braided line maximum 0.10-0.12mm diameter or 8-12lb strength braid. ☺️ There’s no right or wrongs though, but I always like to maximise results on the water 💪
Would work great too, I prefer the comets for the shallow streams less than 0.5meters 💪 I’d use the aglia for weedbeds on the lake for pike and perch personally 😁 all the Mepps work great tho, they would work for everything 👌
@@senanstanleyfishing if it was a lake or river no problem, I was fishing amongst kelp and rocks so I had to apply extra pressure to bully her out, she leaped and jumped ran towards me and diving deep. Worth breaking the rod for I was chancing my arm being undergunned , a random stop on the way home 😂👍
Hi I fish all over Ireland, never name exact locations of rivers and streams on my channels though. ☺️👍 there’s rivers with trout all over Galway where you are, you couldn’t be in a better place 👍
SUPERB session with some truly awesome brownies, of course I sub'd!! What leader to braid knot do you rely on? Recent sesh for the bass on the Fal, Falmouth, I tried an FG for the first time, think my leader was too short, 3 or 4 foot, and after a few casts, my patchinko lure, along with my leader went bye bye! £27 lure!!! Not best impressed, (PLEASE don't tell my wife!!!). It was my first attempt at an FG, and I'm defo still learning.
Thank you! For the small river fishing for the trout you can use a tiny swivel to separate your leader, I only use about 1.5 feet of fleurocarbon leader, you really don’t need any more than that when using lures for the trout in shallow water. Braid to swivel is a palomar knot, really easy to do !
Is the tolka in mulhuddart vilagge dublin blanchardstown good bcme and me mate are goi g there toay jstwantto know if is good bc we have a permit and all
@senanstanleyfishing did they have much luck? Finding it awful difficult, can't catch on anything other than worms (1/2, every other day). The odd one on the fly. The young lad is losing interest, he loves spinning.
@totalspud8553 if it’s slow flowing water stick to the wobbler/twitchbaits, the trout won’t go for spinners in slow flowing water. 👍 spinners come into their own in fast flowing stretches with lots of rocks on the bottom, if you stay on the move with the lures you will catch much more than using worms. 😁👍 it can be tough for everyone at times, keep at it ☺️💪
@senanstanleyfishing cheers. I've tried a good few rapalas with not much luck either. You'll have to do a video there, see how you get on bud. I'll cook up the catch and have beer ready for you.
Thank you! So most rivers in Ireland are club owned and require permits and licenses, your best bet is to call into your closest tackle shop, they will have the permits for sale for the surrounding rivers 👍☺️

Brilliant video mate. I use Mepps. What colour blade do you find works better, and what size did you use on this session?
Thanks Andrew, I don’t think the colour matters at all, once you have a gold or silver with you, that’s plenty👍 size 1 suits the shallow water
