The story really hits hard, and is wonderfully tied for a mafia based game. It goes to show that no matter what, the mafia is never something to get into and will end badly for you in the end.

I do love the remake, however I think that scene's dialogue was slightly better written in the original. I wish they kept the part where Frank asks how would Tommy explain sparing him to the Don and to give his apologies, only for Tommy to tell him that he's essentially dead to the Don and to never come back. That amplified the scene in the original game and I wish they had kept that in the remake. It would have hit even harder with the better performances. That's what unique about the ending. The bank job really compromised their frienship putting Sam in a tough spot to choose either to be loyal to his friends and most likely die or tell Salieri about the Job and Kill his 2 closest friends to secure his own future. You can tell that he actually regretted killing Paulie.
Salieri was a Don, if he hoped to maintain any prestige or respect he had no choice. But Sam? Sam was a toady and a prick. He deserved everything he got and more.

Definitely good remake. When I have seen the first quicktime events(while running from mobs in first quest), I told myself it would be another shitty remake but no, I was wrong. @@PimpofChaos Same. The storytelling is good, but I like old Voices better. Salieri had a bit of a rumble to his voice, Frank had dignity but an over the top accent.
I think the twist after the docks mission was handled way poorer than the original. There, they had no idea there were diamonds in the shipments. They thought don Salieri trusted them completely and this was just a routine job. But no, he just used them, and cheated them out of good money at that. Here, they're mad that there weren't any diamonds at all, big change from the OG, and instead it's a drug shipment. And I mean, were it a matter of honour, of never being willing to sell drugs at all (and the mafia never was back then), I would've accepted it. Not as good as the original but passible to me. But they're mad that, well... Drugs are illegal, I suppose? Dude, you were a bootleger just a few years ago, and just now, you've disposed of a warehouse of feds and stolen a truckload of goods. And that's all not to mention the murders and extortion schemes Tom and Paulie were involved in up to this point. You were gonna "die in jail" anyway!

They did a good job remastering it but I also feel like they spent more time on this than Mafia II ,
The original "Mafia" was one of my very first games back in the day. The story was so catchy, very detailed and really like a well-scripted Mafia-movie. I didn't expect much of the remake, but the missions were more stacked, the cutscenes had more dialogues, emotions and details. A very good job and worth the purchase!
this remake is the best remake in the history of remake, the only bad part is theres nothin much to do after mission end, wish there was random missions to keep on playing and building empire.
4:00:34 I feel like Tommy and Paulie should have rode with Sam and the Don because I feel they missed a very important conversation. Nothing prior in the game showed the Don to be a sneaky person or Sam to be a snake. Sam looked just as surprised and confused when he saw all the drugs so I don’t think he was in on it. I think the Don told Sam about the drugs and his plans on that car ride home and was gonna probably tell Tommy and Paulie, but they went ahead and did the bank job before he could. Now Sam is in a tough spot because he told them to hold off on the job, but since they did it anyway he has to now choose between loyalty to the don or his friends. Sam being the loyal soldier he is, chose the don of course. This could all be bullshit, but I always had this theory.
Gotta say, I absolutely love the character of Detective Norman. The accent is brilliant and sounds genuinely Irish (I'm not Irish so I can't tell for sure but it seems authentic to me). Plus the motion capture work on his face and his physcial mannerisms/gestures is wonderful!
30 cents is around 4.50 today; take into note the lower cost of everything generally...I wish a cab ride to Saint Michaels was 4.50, now that's easily 10, 20.
37:05 it's ironic if you think about it because Frank betrays Salieri in Omerta, Salieri betrays Tommy, Sam and Paulie in Just for relaxation when he tells them they are stealing diamonds but in reality they are stealing dope, Paulie and Tommy betrays Salieri when they rob the bank, Sam betrays Paulie and Tommy by snitching on them to Salieri about the bank and Tommy betrays Salieri when he is rating his familly to the feds
When Ralphie said ill cut your brake line asshole I screamed bro like STOP FUCKING WITH PEOPLE WHO FIX YOUR SHIT or just generally help you they could crack one day 😂😂😂😂
Even with some bugs and some scenes being better in the original (IMO), this remake is really damn fantastic! I've played it multiple times after I have played the original and I am really pleased with how it turned out. Hangar 13 took some lessons from Mafia 3 and the game true to the series. Story-driven, with the world supporting that story to immerse you further. That is what I love about this series (Mafia 1 and 2 at least). We've had plenty of open-world crime games. Even GTA is now stale as fuck. It's nice to play something where story and characters are center stage and it's the story that pushes the gameplay and variety.
I like Tommy as the main character the most out of all the games because even though he wasn’t a good person he was a better person than Lincoln and Vito. He cared about his family and did anything for them. One of his best friends betrayed him and tried to kill him and Tommy was even going to spare him. Tommy doesn’t get involved with drugs like Vito did and only broke the rules for good reasons. I love Lincoln and Vito but no one will beat Tommy.
"A long time ago, in another life, someone once told me that family is a man's Achilles heel; his greatest weakness. And maybe he was right. So I could come home a better husband, a better father; a better man. Now that I'm a lot older and just a bit wiser, I see that family is our greatest weakness. But it's also our greatest strength. It gets us out of bed in the morning; it lets us chase our dreams, even when they're moving too fast to catch; and it keeps us from falling over when we're too tired to take another step. Same. I also got surprised when I found out Frank got whacked all the way in Sicily. I really thought he'd had gotten away scot free. And with Sam's comments on the family, it really hit different.
The story really hits hard, and is wonderfully tied for a mafia based game. It goes to show that no matter what, the mafia is never something to get into and will end badly for you in the end.
Sam himself lampshaded this, outright saying to Tommy that when you are in the Mafia, you are there for life.
The storytelling in this one is something else. Man there are moments that makes you stop and remind yourself that it's not a movie or TV show. Beautifully done!

@@avengerxypoweris-princesso4797 you feel no emotion when Tommy let's Frank go off to live with his family when he originally planned on killing him? Maybe I just find the game more immersive than others, I am a little biased cause I obviously played the original.
Storytelling wise . Better than the original in a way & of course great graphics . I enjoyed playing this game tbh
Definitely good remake. When I have seen the first quicktime events(while running from mobs in first quest), I told myself it would be another shitty remake but no, I was wrong. Storytelling is improved without the essence is changed. Paulie' s reason to rob bank, poor Ralph going to prison, more about Tommy's family. Diamond->dope change was also a nice touch.
@@mateuszjokiel2813 It was probably a combination of the fact that the don explicitly said in the beginning that he would not accept drugs, and the fact that he lied about it
@@novakaizr I know, this is an established part of the irl mafia mythos. No drugs, at least before the 2nd World War. It's fine, if a bit naiively executed. I just believe the reasoning was way better in OG Mafia I, and I question why the developers felt the need to fix what wasn't broken.

"A long time ago, in another life, someone once told me that family is a man's Achilles heel; his greatest weakness. And maybe he was right. Because everything I've done, both good and bad, I've done for my family. i've turned my back on people I thought were my friends, I've kept a lot of hard promises, I've spent eight years totally alone; trying to find myself.
