TBH, it's a nice van, I like ford, and my fleet is Ford, but all your specs are based on an empty van being driven around without a 1-ton load as a minimum, so for me still very miss leading is this review of this E-van. May I suggest you drive on a full charge with a 1-ton load in the back and see how many miles it takes you? This will truly give business people like myself on how truly this van perform 🙂
100% agree. Let's see how it can perform under various loads. Granted, it's not going to haul like a v8 or a diesel, but I would be curious as to its range and/or towing capability with a full set of tools/cargo in the van
NO, they AREN"T. They quote it pretty heavily loaded to be real world. In Europe where testing is unloaded it's rated for 180 miles, which is what guys are getting here. UNLOADED. ;)
My brother in law had one on loan, you can easily half that range when loaded and two work mates in it, it was in February in the uk, so sitting in the van at lunchtime with the heater on forget it.. And if your riund trip is over 100 ish miles you will have to charge, not much fun after a 9 hour day and just wanting to get home... It may suit some folk but very limited .. Cheers 👍
I would like to add one important info about battery. I am driving ford e transit here in Sweden. During the summer 100% ,fully charged is around 250 kilometres, but during the winter when is minus 100% is around 145km-155km. Otherwise van is so nice for driving and easy, like a bicycle ✌️
@@dafuqq467 company is paying. So i can not give you 100% right informations, but 1kwh here in sweden is around 4-5 swedish kr. And if battery is 45kwh you can do the math. I did some work for What Car? back in the day. You won't believe how many times a vehicle will go up and down the same stretch of road for these videos...
A few things have to happen to this van to be the best. It has to be 4-wheel drive, no low hanging motors or suspension parts for better clearance, the rear doors hinges have to be hidden instead of exposed and if there is no way to put a bigger battery for better range, a small engine to recharge the batteries(hybrid) version should be offered also. Until then, the Ford Transit Trail is the best there is.
transit has more square sides which is good for cargo, but electric only has specific uses here in the heat the AC uses a lot of power which limits its range
you can't really test a van until you start working with it . The load height on transits put me off them always and the price of an E van means i'll never buy one .
My question double D is here in American the range is about 100 miles. Am thinking it’s set up for city driving but my question is if it’s gearing can be changed to get better range on the highway. I know the range would change in the city but for traveling around the country would make more sense for a vanlifer. Jc
Let's hope the electric transit is more reliable diesel equivalent, my M sport transit crew cab was the most unreliable van I have ever owned. And as for fords warranty, it's not worth the paper it's printed on .
That's too bad. My Transit connect has gone 77,000 without needing a single thing other than oil changes and tires. Still the original brake pads and i've had the replacments on hand for 5 years. ;)
Had a test drive a few weeks back, and yes it's a pretty good effort from Ford. Quiet, reasonable quick with nice light steering. However, throttle response is dreadful. Very slow to pick up and then all that power comes in a rush. Watch out when you are reversing! Ford engineers need to drive a Tesla to see how it's done properly. But this is the future and won't be too soon to see off all those diesels. Oh and those high servicing costs will be a thing of the past. . .
@@allendrix How much will you save on diesel and servicing costs over the lifetime of the vehicle. Plus factor in the low depreciation, then that high starting price doesn't look so bad. Almost a bargain!
I drive an electric car but cannot see how these e-vans make sense. The range needs to be vastly bigger, around 400 real world in the winter. This will allow one charge per week. We can't afford to pay men to sit and charge the van during the day. Employers can't force employees to fit chargers at home, brings numerous problems not at all helped by current HMRC rules that don't allow electric charging costs at home to be treated as an expense. They are currently treated at income, which is then taxed as income. How can anyone vote an e-van as VAN OF THE YEAR given all these problems. ?
With a battery to fit your requirements you’d end up with such a low payload that it would still fail. More suited to a local distribution company that can charge them at the depot overnight or a sole trader that charges at home overnight and uses it to take himself/materials to the job site.
The truth is 79p per kilowatt today and that’s only going to rise in a van. What does 140 miles. In good condition will cost you in a 65 kW battery £50 per full charge, and that will be very expensive if you do that daily and if you only do one a day on a public charging £50 a day, EV vans and not the future no one is going to charge at home and not want to charge on the way back
Ford transit they would be bloody good van if they did rot so quickly underneath , I've had two of them but sills and wheels archs fell to bits with rust .
