As someone who served, this Gundam series hit harder than I thought it would. It had no business being this damn good. It gets a 10/10 from me. The story was great. I almost want a counter-story from the side of the Federation. Perhaps from the point of view of the Gundam EX pilot. Sort of like FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS and LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA.
@@GundamExplained You're welcome. Thank you for this in-depth discussion video. I will chime in and say that Iria Sorari didn't lose her humanity at the end. She applied it. She's a Mama Bear looking to protect young Newtypes like the Gundam EX pilot so that there will never be any child soldiers deployed in combat zones. Iria Sorari decided to sacrifice her time with her own son to be a protective mother on the battlefield.
Ash brought up a great point, the intro reminds me of Mission Impossible where you get to meet this awesome team and then they all get killed off in the first act.
I also went in with low expectations and I think that's why so many fans were surprised by how good this was. I think we all expected this to look like crap but were surprised by how well they pulled everything off and listening to your roundtable showed me many different metaphors that they might have been trying to portray throughout the show such as passing on the watch and the meaning behind the captain staying to join the Zeon Remnants. Great review all around from each of you. I loved listening to everyone's perspective on the story
Thank you for the comment! Glad you got something out of the roundtable. But this channel has taught me about Gundam is how much more enjoyment I can get out of it by discussing Gundam with others.
I really liked RfV the characters were really good and the action kept me on my toes I'll be rewatching it for sure though those Gouf pilots were not getting the performance out of those machines that they could have lol I think Salaris story is over if they do a continuation but would like too see more in this style.
The are only two gripes I have. Minor, The mobiles suits moved too fast, didn't seem to have weight, but it's fine. Major. The shoehorned in newtype conversation. yes Zeon Daikuns work will be some what common knowlege among zeon loyalists, but maybe that too was swept aside by the Zabi regime? Either way I don't think the grunts would have that sort of expert definition like it was the grips war or some thing. I'm not even sure the newtype lab within zeon at the time knew that much beyond the ability to control funnels. Bonus: What were those skyrim dirty face textures?
Do a search for the Flanagan Institute. Zeon established the facility in June, with EFF shortly after that conducting widespread physicals to find NewTypes. In the original MSG series, regular soldiers are talking about NewTypes and the white base was known for being full of NewTypes.
@@GundamExplained But to know what Amuro only found out by the end of the war? All I'm saying is the conversation should have been more vague. Like maybe shes a newtype and definitly mention Zeon Daikun but a complete understanding is a bit much.
@@GundamExplained I know most every one was aware of new types, but Amuro and Lala only made the newtype connection at the end. Federation and zeon only cared about using them as weapons. So I don't think zeon regs would be talking about sensing things through the armor of a mobile suit is all.
I enjoyed it for what it is. It's not perfect but I'd give it a 7/10. There was love put into this OVA and it shows. As for the story, I don't think the Newtype element adds anything to the story. It really didn't matter in the end if there were Newtypes or if someone was. Second, it misses its overall theme and message of revenge. Revenge usually leads to more suffering but the OVA didn't really show that. The main objective for the cast was to survive, not seek vengeance. I think it would have been better if Solari was hell bent on getting revenge on the Gundam but eventually realizes it's pointless as it just brought more pain, suffering and death. Especially if her personality changed and some of the people on her team point it out, or witnesses people she knows giving into their anger and suffering the consequences for it. It also would have been great if after seeing that the Gundam's pilot is a child that she would question her drive for revenge. In the final battle, after learning that revenge is ultimately pointless, she pleads with the Gundam pilot who was also hell bent on getting revenge on the Zeon for dropping the colony. This way you'd have both characters being at odds with one another despite being cut from a similar cloth (one learned to let go of their anger and vengeance while the other has not). After both suits are heavily damaged, Solari saves the Gundam pilot showing that she's embracing her humanity in the war fueled by ideals, anger, hate and vengeance. But that's just me. Others might disagree.
It seemed she was the one telling everyone to have a "Requiem for Vengeance" throughout the OVA, then by the end we get the twist after the child soldier dies.
This is by far the worst Gundam animation I’ve ever seen, and I give it a negative rating. The dialogue in the animation says that the Zaku saved many lives, but in the original Mobile Suit Gundam 0079, the war initiated by Zeon against the Federation killed nearly 6 billion people. The ironic part is that the Zaku was Zeon’s most advanced killing machine.
If the goal is truly to save children and bring peace to everyone, then why did the lady go to Africa? Remember what happened in Gundam 0083? Yes, Zeon killed even more people with a nuclear bomb. For new Gundam fans who haven’t watched the older series, they might mistakenly think the Federation is the bad guy, when in reality, Zeon is the true evil force.
I need to watch it again but my first impression was mediocre. I always like revisiting the One Year War. I kinda like IGLOO and don't mind the dated CGI so I really didn't notice anything standing out as far as the CGI goes. I feel like it didn't do a very good job making me care about the characters much. The battles were great and it did a good job making the Gundam seem terrifying. Overall It felt a bit rushed and not fully fleshed out.
Requiem of Vengeance was awful. I went in with low expectations and it didn't even meet those. It was clearly made by fans of 08th MS Team but they completely forgot that was carried by a charming and likable cast. We get dull characters that say the most basic military movie dialogue. A prime example of the director and writers' misunderstanding of 08th MS Team is the Gouf Custom. That was a MS spec'd specifically for Norris (hence custom) in a situation to go all out. But Requiem for Vengeance just has squads of Gouf Customs hanging around.
This looked like a game. The story was good. But the animation was…. If they really wanted to do well with the animation they could have used other non game software. Pixar animation looks better than this. There are other Gundam shows that show just as much effects oThe designs are too busy looks like a western designed the mobile suits.
Well...it was literally designed by the guy that designed mobile suits for 08th MS Team (among other Gundam series). And Pixar makes kid friendly shows, that supports the budget.

I went in skeptical and enjoyed it. Im still not a fan of the ms looks, but aside from that or nitpicking the animation, I dont see much wrong with it. The watch to me signifies running out of time/time is up.

Not a gundam fan but I like good Gundam shows especially when it feels grounded. RFV, WITP and Thunderbolt so far what I enjoyed from Gundam.

Because this show is told from the perspective of Zeon. I think people miss this, which is why they don't get the ending.

Well, if I'm to put on my "technically" hat - more Gouf customs have existed. Midnight Fenrir Corps had a few during the attack on Jaburo.
