I still have that issue of Sports Illustrated shown at 1:05 and when I first got it I remember looking at all 68 teams and not seeing UConn, so I personally filled in their name because I really thought they could surprise some people that season. When the bracket came out, UConn was my Championship team, and the fact that they won it all, made me feel really good about everything that I believed in this team from game 1 of the regular season.

Lamb taking his game to another level during the NCAA tournament was the most significant contribution to UConn's national championship! Kemba was superb, but Lamb became the difference, especially against San Diego St and Arizona! He'd make big play after big play right at all the precise moments and it was his defensive effort early stages of the second half against Butler that completely switched the momentum! Lamb gets lost because of Kemba, but I think even Kemba would tell you the Huskies don't win in 2011 without Jeremy Lamb

@@tycalvert7322 Your exactly right Ty, but in the case of Hakeem and The Glide, they're most remembered for being on the receiving end of the greatest Cinderella in March Madness history (NC State)! As dominant as Houston was leading up to, the loss to the Wolfpack was their defining college moment! It's unfortunate in their regard! I'm old enough to vividly remember Phi Slama Jama and they, when on their game, we're a sight to behold! As an 11-yr old, I can still picture Lorenzo Charles' dunk off Whittenberg's air ball and Jimmy V running around like a nut! Watched every second of that game! All those others u mentioned we're superb at tourney time, but it gets rendered to the back burner if u don't finish the job! Melo, AD and Kemba all finished their jobs! Houston's case is an exception because they'll always be remembered for the NC State loss!

It seems like everybody is oblivious to the one main fact being overlooked here! This is Butler being discussed! BUTLER! A school which had only ever been to the second weekend of the NCAA tournament twice in their history before Brad Stevens! Granted, to lose consecutive championship games is gut-wrenching, but at the same time we also in hindsight need to remember Butler making it to the national final twice in a row was an extraordinary accomplishment! They were the standard setter for the mid majors and the Horizon League had never even had a school make the league relevant on the D-I as a whole landscape! More credit should be given to Butler's amazing success than any what-if's!

Connecticut wasn't that superb and their defense did force some of the issue, but it was mostly a case of Butler uncharacteristically missing shots they normally made

One of my favorite sport runs from that decade. I don't follow college ball but that uconn run made me a fan of it.

Visiting this again 6 years later, two coaches after and we're back in the Big East. Hoping for a great outcome this year with both the men and women's basketball teams.

xYodaFighterx Hayward stayed another year, Butler would've had it.

Come on man seriously! That's not in any respect why he left Butler! He went to the Celtics because he was offered a deal he couldn't pass up! And we're talking about tiny Butler in Central Indiana! Yeah Butler had made some surprising tournament runs before Brad Stevens, but what he accomplished there was otherworldly! Always keep in perspective this was not performed at Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State or Carolina! Stevens took Butler to consecutive NCAA championship games! BUTLER! Also consider another mid major may never again accomplish that, so your reasoning for Stevens leaving is just plain foolish!
