Just a reminder, UConn is the most successful basketball program in college the last 25 years. Hurley is cut from the same cloth as Coach Cal and has a legit 4 NBA prospects on the roster in Hawkins, Clingan, Jackson & Sanogo, to go along with really solid role players. Jackson and Sanogo are amazing leaders and super mature. This year, we get one for the thumb!
agreed, love this this years team. kinda interesting how similar the season has gone to the 2011 team peaking at 2 then hitting a rough stretch of Big East games. very excited to see how the rest of the season plays out
To lose 3 of those 4 players and being on the verge of back to back titles just goes to show how great Hurley is and how important building a great culture is. Can't wait for tonight!!!
Captures how surreal the 2011 run was, although it misses that MSG becomes a home game crowd for UConn - special obsessed college fandom - which seemed to help fuel the amazing Big East 5 games in 5 days Big East championship, the only way UConn could get into the tourney that year. Bleacher Report does an exceptional job capturing this 2011 run, thanks!!
I am a HUGE UNC Basketball fan but i respect KEMBA!!!! I have a really cool Full Sized basketball from 2019 Upper deck buckets signed by him and inscribed "BUZZ CITY" limited to 50 made. Keep Ballin Kemba! !!
Nate Wright BUTLER should've defeated DUKE the year before when they had the chance to do it. That was their best chance to win it all as that was their year. They came so close to do it but that last shot went half way in but came out. A total heartbreaker. Didn't have a chance against a determed and way much better CONNECTICUT team.
It seems like everybody is oblivious to the one main fact being overlooked here! This is Butler being discussed! BUTLER! A school which had only ever been to the second weekend of the NCAA tournament twice in their history before Brad Stevens! Granted, to lose consecutive championship games is gut-wrenching, but at the same time we also in hindsight need to remember Butler making it to the national final twice in a row was an extraordinary accomplishment! They were the standard setter for the mid majors and the Horizon League had never even had a school make the league relevant on the D-I as a whole landscape! More credit should be given to Butler's amazing success than any what-if's!
@@CaptainAmerica-jw2xh and it wasn't that they didn't have a chance! They just happened to pick the worst possible time to have their worst perimeter shooting performance (13-64)! In the title game! The final was 53-41 and had Butler been able to hit the barn broadside, it would have been either teams' game to win! Most sloppy NCAA final of all-time! Connecticut wasn't that superb and their defense did force some of the issue, but it was mostly a case of Butler uncharacteristically missing shots they normally made
I'm a near-lifelong ACC fan sans the Tar Holes and besides stating the obvious, the '80s Big East was close behind throughout that entire era! UConn was the bottom feeder in those days until Jim Calhoun's arrival in the spring of 1987 (greatest rebuild in D-I history in my opinion, Scott Drew with Baylor #2)! I vividly remember games on the old Big East Network (Bill Raftery and Mike Gorman) from grade school into junior high! When the heated Syracuse-Georgetown rivalry began it's ascent! Great time period! I'm 49 now and the memories never fade
Visiting this again 6 years later, two coaches after and we're back in the Big East. Hoping for a great outcome this year with both the men and women's basketball teams.
Kemba gets the glory and deservedly so but the most underrated thing about that team that absolutely nobody talks about is the defense that team played. We gave up less than 60 points in 4 out of the 6 games in the tourney against some high powered offenses.
I remember that run they went on like it was yesterday! I live in Waterbury, CT and that’s all anybody was talking about for months!! Incredible man!! You will never see another run like that in NCAAM history!! You can book it!!
Of all of UConn’s MVPs, Kemba Walker in 2011 is by far #1. He was UConn. Without him, they don’t even make the tournament. With him, that are champions. No other player in UConn history had such an impact on his team.

This year, we get one for the thumb!
agreed, love this this years team. kinda interesting how similar the season has gone to the 2011 team peaking at 2 then hitting a rough stretch of Big East games. very excited to see how the rest of the season plays out
This aged well
To lose 3 of those 4 players and being on the verge of back to back titles just goes to show how great Hurley is and how important building a great culture is.
Can't wait for tonight!!!
Tradition as the tournament starts this year to come back and watch this.
I thought I was watching a movie
I am a HUGE UNC Basketball fan but i respect KEMBA!!!! I have a really cool Full Sized basketball from 2019 Upper deck buckets signed by him and inscribed "BUZZ CITY" limited to 50 made. Keep Ballin Kemba! !!
Can't wait for kemba to play in Boston let's goo my man!!!!!
Who's watching this after Kemba just dropped 60 vs 76ers

Anyone watching this after Kemba's retirement?
Yeah man
Butler heartbreak 2 years in a row :(
Nate Wright BUTLER should've defeated DUKE the year before when they had the chance to do it. That was their best chance to win it all as that was their year. They came so close to do it but that last shot went half way in but came out. A total heartbreaker. Didn't have a chance against a determed and way much better CONNECTICUT team.
Captain America Not to mention that one floater Hayward shot, which ironically, he made years later against the Celtics
Connecticut wasn't that superb and their defense did force some of the issue, but it was mostly a case of Butler uncharacteristically missing shots they normally made
Who didn’t know kemba, shabazz napier, and Jeremy lamb played together in college
I miss the old bigEast
+Jon snow what happened. im not familiar with ncaa
Well now they split most of the old bigeast they now play in either the ACC or American conference they did this in 2012.
+Mabobber alot of teams left for other conferences, big east is soft as fuck now just a bunch of 3 point shooters and mostly boring teams
+Mabobber Football ruined it. They basically broke it up because of football
Kemba one of my favorite UCONN players of ALL TIME
One of my favorite sport runs from that decade. I don't follow college ball but that uconn run made me a fan of it.
Had to come back because it’s that time of the year🙏🏾
I love the fact that he faced brad stevens in the national championship and now he's coaching him
dude can't go to disney rides because he isn't tall enough? He's fucking 6'1
Roni Gorani he's is taller than average it was just a metaphor saying he was incredibly short compared to most basketball players
Roni Gorani I am 15 and 6"4 so he is pretty small for a baller
GamingHollywood yea just like kd he's listed at 6'9 but is actually 6'11
Doritos Mountain Jew cause the shoes add inchs
ATG Nba Live Mobile Content shoes add like half an inch or maybe an inch at most lmao
Man I remember watching this UC run, loved it and still do
Kemba’s heart and effort are unmatched, what a great player...respect ✊🏻
I'm here for the 1000th time because Kemba Walker is a New York Knick. 🧡💙🗽
kemba man hes so good bro STOP SLEEPING ON MY BOI
yo I didn't even realize we went up against Kawhii Leonard. I had no idea he was on the 2011 SDSU squad.
where?
@@ItsJimdevera 5:16 I think
@@jjhaya thats him, thanks man👌🏻 "what it do baby?"
Kemba s 1st ballot Hall of Fame whenever he retires
Ironically, Kemba now plays with Coach Stevens and Gordon Hayward.
Not so much Hayward because he had already been drafted
It’s so cool how Kemba and Jeremy Lamb are on the same team.
Rip Hamilton, he was the MVP of the college NC and the NBA title-MVP.
@@rainmaker3700 NBA is off the question. Kemba was also NC MVP. RIP had a vastly superior supporting cast compared to Kemba’s.
@@mrmojorisin8752 What about Shabazz?? Not only did he help Kemba win it in 2010, he won his own in 2014.
if only the music was less loud i could properly enjoy the video
One of the best years of my life.
Who’s here right before we make this 2021 run
i was a sr in highschool in ct when this happened and it was like boston and ny sports just evaporated. no one cared at all about any other sport except the uconn men. it was a magical time, and an amazing run
2:43 People will talk about that moment 50, even 100 years from now. One of the signature moments in college basketball history for sure.
