Hmmm found out that you should at least double the amount of champagne (2oz) and first add in the glass instead of just letting it float on top. Helps the cocktail a lot :)
Love an Old Cuban! Served in a few places in Atlanta, GA, USA. Supposedly it was the favorite cocktail of the former President of Coca Cola and major Atlanta benefactor: Robert W. Woodruff (1889-1985). I make it at home and make sure to give the mint garnish a good spanking. ;-)
I discovered this a few years ago and it's my favorite drink! I use barbados aged rum and go halvsies on the champagne to rum mix instead of just a shot. ;-P
Many years ago I had a drink that I've since modified, 2pts brandy, 2pts apricot brandy, 1pt roses lime cordial. Shake hard over ice and double-strain. Drink up, or with a double dash of lemonade for a daytime drink. Was called a 'Cuban', but not a legit name. Bloody nice nonetheless.
Not sure why, but I've never been in favor of adding mint to drinks. Except for hot chocolate of course. Is it essential to the drink, or could you just skip it?
I just tried it (with Holmes Cay Guyana Rum and no mint leaves - I could only find Spearmint leaves at my go-to grocery store, but they seemed o work fine). Like most rum-based cocktails, they are deceptively boozy. I'm correcting a ton of typos as I try to focus on this message:). After a few edits, I think I got it as grammatically correct as I'm able at the moment.
Did a bit of hosting over the weekend and made so so many of these. An instant hit with everyone who stopped by. Thanks so much!
Your description put me in mind of a bubbly Queen's Park Swizzle, which sounds fun. Cheers, Cara.
Also a great drink.

Not a huge champagne fan, so we had these for New Years a few years ago. One of my favorites.
This sounds great for a summer evening. I'm going to experiment with some different rums.
Thanks, Cara!
Fresh Lime juice always makes everything taste soo much better. Interesting rum potion...,never had it with mint before.
That looks and sounds amazing!
I think I know what I'm trying this weekend...

Yum!
really love this shorter videos
This looks good! I wonder how it would do with ginger syrup in place of sugar syrup- what do you think?
Oooh I reckon that would be yum!

Nice drink 🥤 I’ll make one! You want another Cara?
🙋♀️
Would soda be okay as a substitute topper? or is there a better one? I can't champagne or any wine, still or carbonated. :(
For sure! Just don’t use too much as you don’t want to wash it out.
Maybe you can try not using any sparkling thing on top, and just add an ounce of cold coffee, there you have, a Caffeinated Cuban.

Definitely still works without!

and i thought i was being original when i started mixing rum lime and cava last night!

Actually, the best rum cocktail is the El Presidente, with a 2:1 split of blanc and Cocchi Extra Dry vermouth.
