as someone with a track bike i can tell you that, yes, driving a track car, like a mclaren, is dangerous af in the rain. the power to weight ratio is way too much for rain and these cars are not meant to be on the street. theyre legal, but not intended for use on roads. not to mention the tires that come with these vehicles--theyre slick, dont have much in the way of water veins, and are made out of extremely hard compounds that need to be warmed up before driving a certain way. btw your takes are based af, nice video. bless you brother.
Problem is, most people stare at their phone and glance at the road, instead of watching the road and glancing at their phone. I drive all day, every day, and have to use my phone while driving. The thing is, I don't let the phone take priority. I don't type texts, I use Speech to Text. I don't scroll through my contacts, I use voice dial and verbal commands. The only time I actually hold the phone is at a full stop, to change or input a GPS destination. Thing is, most people are too dependent on their screens to actually set their device down for long enough to get somewhere.
Driving a McLaren one-handed, face-planted into a phone, whilst in the rain is such a braindead move. This is one of the few instances, I wished McLaren just goes full on Ferrari and sued his ass.
Was wondering when you were gonna talk about it. Remember folks, drive safe, don't speed, wear your seatbelt and please for the love of god, don't text and drive!
I agree with everything, except the seatbelt. You want to be a fool and fly through the windshield that's on you. You don't even have to wear a helmet on a much more dangerous motorcycle in many places. How does any of that make sense?
@@DarkForce2024 Nah because if you don't wear a seat belt in the back for example you go flying into the back seat of the driver usually causing them a lot of harm. Always wear your seat belt if not for yourself then for others.

McLaren should make a public statement about how a certain skill level is required to drive their vehicles and the circumstances of this accident are user error and lack of driving experience...I'm pretty sure that type of car has some sort of black box that records speed, yaw, g-forces as well as driver reaction time at the moment of impact.
They can't, because that would imply they've sold cars to underqualified drivers and that it's their fault for not vetting buyers like certain other brands do...
There is an old highway sign in my region which says "NO HANDHELD DEVICES" and it has a graphic of a 90s cell phone. That sign still matters regardless of which generation of Cell Phone or PDA you are using, but the rules still apply: Do not pay attention to your Cell/PDA whilst driving, especially if you are in a highway at high speed in slippery conditions.
Thank you for saying what no one else is talking about. This crap should land him in trouble with the law. At minimum his insurance company should laugh at any claim.
To your point about TCS and driver assist, misty roads, etc. I think the reality is a person like this should never have that much power in their hands to begin with. These are highly refined supercars and they have far too much balls for a 20 year old kid with no real driving background.
At the part where Muta says Doherty should invest that money, his parents already do. Ever since he was a teen and he was making money on TH-cam, his parents invested on real estate. So his parents never had a real reason to change his behaviour, because well... it was making them filthy rich after all.
Gotta love how "wealth" allows you to earn "passive income" through real estate, stocks, etc. Especially off the back of an idiot like this. Boy is Capitalism great, it incentivises the best things for our society, boy howdy. Welp, gotta get back to my 9 to 5, cause some people actually have to work.
In the UK, insurance companies treat this (using phone while driving) EXACTLY the same as drunk driving. So basically even if you can get insurance after this, it'll be astronomically high. Obviously it's also a criminal offence, but the real penalty is the insurance bump. Not that Docherty would care - his simps will pay for it...
The fact that society allows you to even be allowed to continue driving after you've done something like this just goes to show that everyone is morally corrupt. There is no reason you should allow someone who BLATANTLY ignored every aspect of safety to handle a 2 ton machine.
I had to look this vehicle up. It's a Mclaren 570S. A 562hp, mid-engined, RWD car....in the rain. That is literally max difficult on all factors. Those conditions are concerning for even professional racing drivers...
I had to restrain myself from making a similar comment. I did search the first several dozen comments looking for "wonton" but you added a space, so it didn't get picked up.
I would pay good money to be there when he asks his insurance company to cover it. I would bet even the most professional insurance agent wouldn't be able to not laugh in his face.

This is definitely carelessness. His handling of speed and use of his phone while speeding in the rain with a passenger, in a supercar, makes the definition. Also attempted vehicular manslaughter 3rd degree
He calls the other guy "the camera man" in the video, so I don't know if it's actually his friend. But it's still pretty fucked up to not just end the livestream and deal with the crash. If you watch the whole video, there's a point where he gets pulled out of the window because the door is stuck. The first thing he does there is give his camera to someone outside to film how he gets pulled out. Crazy
Sports car assists are not meant to be rain driving aides, and IF you use any of those assist while driving in the rain, the ODDS are very much higher that the car is uncontrollable. For the most part when you're talking about assists in ANY vehicle, the ONLY THING that is happening is the computer is looking for a range of wheel speeds in comparison to engine rpm on a valuesheet that was calculated at a desk and using that information to apply braking to affected axles, sometimes to single wheels, to help slow the wheel speed.... MEANING that IF your car decided to hit the brakes in the rain because with ASSUMES you're spinning when you aren't, IT VERY WELL COULD SPIN YOU. Learn to drive people, fuck assists, they aren't helping you at all, it is just more shit to break and an upcharge for the factory, and a feel-good line for the marketing team.... NOTHING REAL... You're better off pumping your brakes.
I overheard someone in a restaurant saying that she's game ended other people on the road, and well... she was clearly not facing significant consequences.
usually because they're unable to provide personal testimony or have hard evidence of who was at fault, more or less exactly what they were doing or even how fast they were going. small amount of speeding and tailgating are generally misdemeanor violations, they're not going to bother, especially when they lack evidence or personal eyewitness testimony. however, there is a point where reckless driving becomes a felony, and luckily for them (and the insurance company) super smart boy streamed the evidence where everyone can find it. hope they hit him for more than 90 days though. he wouldn't learn from a short stint in jail and would just come out more obnoxious because he'd claim he was then "hard" and had "street cred".
Even if they did he's just gonna throw some of his momey at the problem and walk totally free. That kid ha made many millions of dollars being the way he is. Because so many people love people like Doherty. Even with all the proof he's gonna walk.
3:19 What's surprising about this? It's not like after a crash the first thing you do is ask your phone if it's ok. His "friend" is just a cog in his social media machine.
4:03 - It is absolutely totalled, but it's a mid-engined car,.meaning the engine and all the stuff that's usually there in the front where it hit is behind the driver towards the back of the car, which is why the front smashed in so badly, it's just the front trunk compartment. Another reason why a lot of these supercars are so deadly. A front collision will crumple it in like a soda can.
yeah, mid engine sportscars/supercars are actually safer because of that. Most are engineered for the car to take the force of the impact, not the driver. in a front engine configuration, that engine could go through the firewall and end up in your lap
@@TyreaLSC Not Yank Tanks, they make sure to apply the force of the impact to the replaceable occupants. They also don't have to comply with American highway codes because they fall into the 'exemption' due to their weight.
Front engine cars will deform the engine under the body in a front on accident like that to do more or less the same thing. It's about diffusing the force of the impact rather than have the occupants hit a brick wall

as someone with a track bike i can tell you that, yes, driving a track car, like a mclaren, is dangerous af in the rain. the power to weight ratio is way too much for rain and these cars are not meant to be on the street. theyre legal, but not intended for use on roads. not to mention the tires that come with these vehicles--theyre slick, dont have much in the way of water veins, and are made out of extremely hard compounds that need to be warmed up before driving a certain way.
btw your takes are based af, nice video. bless you brother.
people who be on their phones driving makes me pretty scared to be on the highway
i see at least 15 text and drivers a day, and im only on the road for a total of an hour a day
The All-Seeing Eye
Which is a joke, my car is a 2011 and reads texts and emails to me, and does voice to text to respond.
The amount of people that say "I'm an excellent driver, I can watch the road and my phone at the same time" is just mind boggling. THEY'RE FOOLS
Also don't drive in a mid-rear mounted engine car during bad weather, they have horrible handling.
@@DarkForce2024 Nah because if you don't wear a seat belt in the back for example you go flying into the back seat of the driver usually causing them a lot of harm. Always wear your seat belt if not for yourself then for others.
@@DarkForce2024considering a body not hindered by a seatbelt can become an actual weapon, nah. wear your seatbelt
@@cosmonauthal7651 You make a good point. Which is why it's so funny that in the 3 states I've lived in none had a backseat seatbelt requirement for adults. Only children under 18.
I'll tell you what I didn't expect from highway speeds in the rain with distracted driving.

@HackedGlitch265 I just want to make sure McLaren doesn't get blamed for jacks stupidity

To your point about TCS and driver assist, misty roads, etc. I think the reality is a person like this should never have that much power in their hands to begin with. These are highly refined supercars and they have far too much balls for a 20 year old kid with no real driving background.
They would require a special license maybe, kind of like how you need a special license to drive semis.
At the part where Muta says Doherty should invest that money, his parents already do. Ever since he was a teen and he was making money on TH-cam, his parents invested on real estate.
So his parents never had a real reason to change his behaviour, because well... it was making them filthy rich after all.
I heard they own businesses too
Well at least they were smart enough to invest instead of letting him blow it all before his fame evaporated.

And in the US getting caught with a DUI is basically a fucking slap on the wrist, despite you showing you're a clear hazard to everyone around you
I had to look this vehicle up. It's a Mclaren 570S. A 562hp, mid-engined, RWD car....in the rain. That is literally max difficult on all factors. Those conditions are concerning for even professional racing drivers...

Crazy
I didn't hear him thank any of the people who stopped to help.
He called him Michael didn't he?

NOTHING REAL...

usually because they're unable to provide personal testimony or have hard evidence of who was at fault, more or less exactly what they were doing or even how fast they were going.
small amount of speeding and tailgating are generally misdemeanor violations, they're not going to bother, especially when they lack evidence or personal eyewitness testimony.
however, there is a point where reckless driving becomes a felony, and luckily for them (and the insurance company) super smart boy streamed the evidence where everyone can find it.

A front collision will crumple it in like a soda can.
tbf you WANT the car to crumble, but ideally at specifically engineered spots that are meant to diffuse the force through the whole car, not you.
All cars crumple in the front it's been a mandatory safety requirement for many years
yeah, mid engine sportscars/supercars are actually safer because of that.

It would be nice if the judge even just gave him a week in jail. Something just long enough to go past being an interesting story for social media, and actually be an inconvenience.
