This is why undercover cops should not be doing traffic stops. Citizens should call 911 if you have an unmarked car with police lights pulling you over. You can't be sure it's the real thing :( Come get some Catspit~!
Many departments have guidelines against unmarked cars doing traffic stops, regulations like that are becoming more common due to issues like this. You are right you should call 911 and if you do stop do so in a public area, recording the encounter is also recommended.
CSP is technically all unmarked with the exception of some cars having STATE POLICE in the middle of the light bar. But they're all obvious colors. Mostly all gray. With that their patrol cars are also take home cars. And they can perform traffic stops and what not off duty, even if not in uniform. The exception is they need to have a uniformed trooper to come to them as well. They also need to show their law enforcement identification. Even our game wardens dont have markings on their trucks but they're easy to spot. Most common "undercover" CSP car you'll see is a black mustang. Not hard to spot
My service has ghost cars, they are black but have a feint POLICE on them. Undercover cars can't make stops, they can operate the radars and the marked cruiser next to it make the stop though.

This is why undercover cops should not be doing traffic stops. Citizens should call 911 if you have an unmarked car with police lights pulling you over. You can't be sure it's the real thing :( Come get some Catspit~!

Many departments have guidelines against unmarked cars doing traffic stops, regulations like that are becoming more common due to issues like this. You are right you should call 911 and if you do stop do so in a public area, recording the encounter is also recommended.
CSP is technically all unmarked with the exception of some cars having STATE POLICE in the middle of the light bar. But they're all obvious colors. Mostly all gray. With that their patrol cars are also take home cars. And they can perform traffic stops and what not off duty, even if not in uniform. The exception is they need to have a uniformed trooper to come to them as well. They also need to show their law enforcement identification. Even our game wardens dont have markings on their trucks but they're easy to spot. Most common "undercover" CSP car you'll see is a black mustang. Not hard to spot
