You can drive up to 6 months on foreign license as a tourist from most countries and you need International drivers PERMIT if you are staying legally in the USA for more than 6 months and up to 1 year. After that you need local driving license that you can obtain based on your existing license or have to pass the written test and/or driving test depending what country you’re from.

And the icing on the cake, he actually cited a sworn citation to a foreign national for not having an American California license. So he lied on a sworn citation. Here in Switzerland, pretty much any mods you do to your car are illegal, so cars with exhausts etc. really stand out. I just got pulled over last week and had my car impounded so the officer could look under the car on the lift. Then I spend thousands of dollars on a vehicle and pay taxes on that vehicle to the state, I pay a registration tax, then every year I pay property and registration fees. At no point has my driving experience been a priviledge, a priviledge is something given to you.
The dumbest thing about this is that the cop thought a Lamborghini owner isn't going to hire a lawyer to fight this to the bitter end.
Sure enough, if our Canadian friend wanted to spend $5 to $10K fighting it to the end, I don't mind. BTW, that's USD.

The sergeant knew exactly what the officer’s protocol was, and it’s only because you had the ability-the balls, the wherewithal, the financial resources and backing-to call out the tyranny that it ended as well as it did. Sad part is more and more cops act like that nowa days and the fact that other cops just stand around and watch it happen makes them just as bad. There was a second cop there as a witness. Either he doesn't know the law as well , perhaps he doesn't like the other, but if he knew better, he should have come forth and corrected the other officer .
