The Super Nova HeavyArms Custom is pretty much the full dakka version of the suit. To replicate it with Bandai requires hunting down 3 different P Bandai items, the kit and two different expansions.

Surprisingly, when I built the DM Akatsuki, I had almost no issues with parts not fitting together. The only ones were that the eyes didn’t fit together, the pre molded hands need to be shaved a bit to properly hold the wepons, and the possible hands suck. It’s a really good kit and fits in perfectly with the rest of my SEED kits.

I bought the ZA Berserk Fury which is a third party /knock off version of the High end Master Model Kit Berserk Fury and was completely blown away by it. ZA is a third party company that makes stylized versions of Zoids and so I wanted to give it a try since the Fury is my favorite mech in anime and wow, just wow. The plastic quality is softer but its surprisingly sturdier than its official brother, they added some extra details, modified some parts to give it that ZA brand look and even added extra articulation in the toes to make poses more life like. Its the same size as the official release and you can even swap out parts with the two of them. Its something I HIGHLY recommend getting, that or their Deathstinger which is a upscaled stylized version on the official HMM Deathstinger or their Mugen, Hayate, and Murusame Liger kits or even their take on the Sturm Tyrann.

  • @V10Symphony

Personally, my favorite bootleg kit is the Supernova Heavyarms Igle unit.
    Upsides:
-The kit is super sturdy even with each of the two arms having 2 mini guns attached to them. (sometimes too sturdy)
-It comes with 8x mini guns, all of them can be attached to the arms. (never tried it tho)
-The subarms have no problem holding 2 miniguns each.
-Most guns and missiles in the hatches are color separated in gun metal gray.
-You have the option to change the color of 85% parts of the base suit with either red, white or yellow.
-80% of the kit is undergated.
-Even the blue stripes on the armor is color separated (but they are the only parts that required to be modified significantly)
-The knee joint has a separating knee and sliding thigh armor. (personal favorite)
-The detail is sharp, if a little too sharp.
-The plastic was no where as bad as other bootleg kits.
-imo, the kit is so good looking that it's the only kit im my collection that I didn't bother panel lining it.
    Downsides:
-You end up with a lot of spare parts because of the extra color options.
-The pegs of the subarms are too tight and one broke on me. (but it still works fine)
-You only get one v fin, so be careful not to break it.
-The shoulder hatches required gluing but they open and close normally.
-The manual (at least the one I got) was confusing and made me disassemble parts I have already built in order to attach the Igle unit.
It is a fantastic kit, and I would love to see SN try to make there own original design instead of stealing Bandai's IP.

I have built heavyarms supernova few years ago and i can say the build was fun enough. The plastics are soft, feels like the plastics for frame of ibo kits (i don't know what to call haha) and most of them are under gates which are very easy to remove and no nub marks to be seen. It felt like you get what you pay for in good way 👍

    -MG Altron Nataku EW
    -MG Wing Seraphim
Daban: usually just copies kits but they made the first Blast Impusle and own design of the Astray Mars Jacket
    -MG Astray Mars Jacket
    -MG Jagd Doga
    -PG Avalanche Exia
Dragon Momoko: usually copies metal builds but also kinda makes their own metal build kind of designs for their original kits like the First MG Testament, Deathscythell, the Astray Outframe D, and Blue Frame 3rd
    -MG Astray Outframe D
    -MG Blue Frame 3rd
Model Comprehend: is also kinda the same company as dragon momoko but more on HG ktis and sd

    -MG Woundwort

i've built two supernova death stingers, two supernova heavyarms customs(one of them igel), a supernova bf02 sturm tyrann, and i can say supernova is very much where it's at. the supernova death stinger is.. a thing to behold. it is gigantic, almost as big as koto's hmm gojulas, bigger depending on the pose. i've built the claws from an extra and put them on the other to give it four huge claws and four mini claws replacing four of the normal legs, and it's standing on four legs without any glue, paint or supports.
the heavyarms custom igel is by far the most dakka i've ever put on a kit, having FOUR quad beam gatlings(yes, thats sixteen seven-barrel beam gatling guns), with the igel equipment of one. for starters, the bandai version i've heard has trouble holding one double gatling up, and theyre smaller. the supernova version's gatlings are i believe double the size, and can be combined to make quad gatlings. all four arms(it replaces the custom's backpack holsters with two very strong versions of the mg jesta's shield subarms, and both of them are very capable of holding up a quad gatling) can hold up a quad gatling easily.
the bf02 sturm tyrann by supernova is definitely the best looking OOB kit i own. as with the death stingers, all gold pieces are pre-painted in a beautiful matte gold, and the sturm tyrann even has a decent amount of the silver painted in a beautiful, matte, shiny aluminum. it's joints are all great, and it moves the sturm tyrann's big claws off the shoulder joints(on the koto version) and puts them on a semi-articulate backpack. zero complaints whatsoever, except for the fact that, when my rat escaped and pushed it off a nearby shelf, it fell from a very high position and broke the claw's "shoulder" joints, so im going to grab a second and put the extra big claws on mine along with replacing the "shoulder" joint on the backpack that broke. ps, its all undergated.
TLDR; i cannot recommend the supernova bf02 enough.

It was my first Bootleg Gunpla and it was a nightmare to build because a good chunk of the parts did not want to fit. I ended up sanding off too much of some of the pegs leading to the opposite thing, loose parts. The worst being one of the pegs that attaches his hip to his left leg.
It is now a beautiful plastic grenade on my shelf. Very nice to look at, but every time I move it to clean the shelf there is a 100% chance a part will fall off 😂

Best bootleg kits I've honestly built have been the Supernova Zoids kits. I have built all three Zoids Genesis Ligers (Murasame, Mugen, and Hayate) and they honestly are an absolute joy and to pose and screw around with. I recently built the Berserk Fury and so far Supernova's Zoids are 4/4 (I still have to build the Death Stinger, and I swear if you build this you need to do a size comparison with Spooky because everyone has compared this kit to a medium sized house cat).
I've done a few others, including some Daban kits and...well, it's a lot of what you experienced here with the DM Deathscythe. Thankfully with the Supernova kits I haven't had to do ANY of this.
I will say as a bonus, the worst bootleg I've built is the BT Hobby Huckebein Boxer...it looks absolutely nuts but it poses like a brick and I'm pretty sure the plastic did irreversible damage to my fingers.

Finished mine a week ago after 2 and a half weeks building it. When I started I broke part of a shoulder joint and had to rebuild the part that broke with JB Weld. That was a 15 hour ordeal of waiting so while waiting I did all my panel lining and painting. If you are curious as to how it took me 2.5 weeks, well I am a single dad of two young and energetic children which means I don't have a whole lot of time for hobbies.

I am glad that I was not the only one that had issues. Though I took some liberties with the open hands and sharpened the fingertips a bit more. But as you said, it is definitely more for decoration. Trying currently to find a Duo Maxwell statue to compliment it.

I’ve had this kit for about a year now and used all of the water slides plus put a matte top coat on it. All of them are holding up fine. The big white eyes on the active coat looks savage. Out of all the bootlegs I’ve built I would say my favorite is the super nova Nataku. Building it wasn’t as much of a pain as the Momoko death scythe and if you paint in the gun metal parts it looks extremely good.

The MC Model 1/144 Nu and Hi-Nu Gundooms were good kits, pretty big for 1/144's and had lots of accessories. (Nu had 2 sets of funnels, Hi-Nu had that huge beam sword) There was also an HWS of the Nu and a ground type variant. The Qubeley they released was not as good as the Nu's though. These kits were released a few years ago, not sure if there are still any for sale.
Latest unlicensed kit I build was the Supernova Heavyarms. Enjoyed building it, plastic had a pretty good feel. Just had to glue some small parts that kept popping off.

I really enjoyed building the DM 1/100 Out Frame D. The only real issues I had was pressing the handle into the camera, unfortunately that broke in half while I was applying pressure, but when held the break is completely hidden. The backpack blades are also loose feeling, but acceptable. The DM 1/100 Testament on the other hand isn't too bad, but feels slightly worse, even though their the same kit just recoloured. The moveable hands on both as well are not very good, their brittle and feel like they'll break at anytime, but the Out Frame somehow has slightly better hands

i built this Deathscythe Hell kit it was so good i got it in 2017 i was blow away how good it looks and built. it was so much better looking than yours like my clear green is like glass clear no imperfections like yours parts where sharper too , like mine was snap fit i didn't have to do like any widening or glue parts. i guess when DM got shot down other company have bean doing copy DM kits taking the name and not doing them justice. I have build alot of 3rd party kits daban kits in the start was cheep crappy copys but new kits are great like the newer one have been even been improved on like fixes bandai doesn't even do like more options new stand alone kit and more closer to show kits. you really need to look into getting a new Daban kit and you DEFINITELY need to try supernova like the white altron they are like any bandai kit but more cool snap fit and good plastic. both its you did where old DragonMoMoko you need to try new daban and supernova.

I have built Daban's Gundam Astrea Type F/F2, I may say that its a great kit all new parts for the Astrea is undergated and easy to clean also lots of accessories 8 sheilds, 2 of each type of gun 4 GN sword handle and 2 NGN bazooka which has a very detailed magazine also gen wires have a good prismatic effect, bad side is just with some minor color inaccurate metallic purple part in GN condenser, back chestplate and alternate head chin part I just used metallic red red to recolor it also parts shared with MG Exia has bad knobs, alternate head needs bluetak or something to stick the 2 piece part (chin and visor) also theres no manual you need a pdf file, note the sub-arms for the floating sheild for the back GN condeser is very fragile since the original sub-arm is made from diecast. hope this helps the kits looks god for a bootleg

  • @Eradose
    @Eradose 2 ปีที่แล้ว

To be honest, the only bootleg I've built so far that I'm aware of was also from Dragon Momoko. It was a bootleg of the Kotobukiya MSG Unite Sword, upscaled to 1:100th, and modified with slots in the handles so regular MG kits could hold it. And it wasn't just one sword either, as combining two Unite Swords made one bigger sword, and the bootleg had all the parts for two swords, allowing you to make the bigger sword right out of the box, and it held together well enough, although it was only a weapon, not an articulated model.
However, I did recently order a Pretty Armor girl kit, which are clearly bootlegs of the basic Kotobukiya Frame Arms Girl body, but with new armor parts, and a few of the third party add-ons like alternate hair and ear parts (which can be swapped out). I picked up the Ver. 1, which has a knight like style to it where parts of the armor can detach and become a large shield, complete with energy effects. You may want to check out the Ver. 3 (which there is a white or red version), which come with the Pretty Armor (which can also be bought separately), which is a motorcycle that can be transformed into a cannon or attached as an armor pack.

I've built 3 bootleg kits. All were horrible!
I cannot remember the companies they were from, but first one was a 1/144 RX-124 Woundwort (years before Bandai released theirs). Second was a 1/144 RX-104FF Penelope (also years before Bandai's). Third was a 1/100 (I think) Quebeley MK2, blue varient, that could be reconfigured into the Qubeley Mass Production Type.
All required so much alteration, drilling, pliers for pinching pieces, gluing, and the plastic was super brittle. I finished the Woundwort and Qubeley (in MP form) and they just ended up falling apart on me. I got about 1/4 way through the Penelope before just giving up. Too many parts simply broke, so I was just like, "screw this!."
Now, in these kits' defense, I had just come off a 5-6 year hiatus from Gunpla. My skills were rusty, but not lacking. I do admit that since this point in time, my skills have improved 10-fold, and like 1000x more since when I started my hiatus.
But... the bootlegs left such a sour taste in my mouth and I purposely avoid them now. I have purchased a few resin kits recently that require a Bandai donor kit as their base. I'm very interested on trying them, but even though they aren't "bootlegs," I'm still hesitant (alwo because they are a different type of beast altogether). I also have a 1/100 Woundwort full resin kit that doesn't require any donors. Same boat with that one.

This thing’s waterslides are possibly the best ones I’ve ever worked with. They’re thick and sturdy and react to softener very well without any awkward tearing. I built it when it was new and it’s held up very, very well.
Best bootleg I’ve done is the PG Avalanche Exia. It’s everything good about the original plus a butt ton more. The quality is tip top, building it was a week long adventure with a massive payoff (literally, it’s freaking huge)

I've built the Supernova MG Snow White, maybe it's my problem, some parts just didn't fit that well, some are too tight (which is broke some of the pegs), and some are too loose (especially the joint between the waist and chest). Overall it does look amazing, but I wouldn't touch it anymore, it stays on the shelf untouched 😅

I HIGHLY recommend checking out Daban's take at an MG Jagd Doga. They use the MG Geara Doga frame and heavily modify it so that it can fit the new armor parts. It comes with a Geara Doga shoulder armor part and sleeve parts, but unfortunately you can't make an official sleeve version that's seen in unicorn. It has some of the usual fitting issues, but it's not that bad. I would kind of consider it a kit killer considering how floppy Bandai's RE100 version is, but I'll leave it up to you if you want to check it out.
