Man, the thing that makes me really appreciate how far this channel has come is the fact the flickering of the LEDs from the lower framerate of your older camera is just gone.
It's actually the other way around. The older camera was locked at 60 fps which caused the flicker. The lights of the psychoframe and the lights of the eyes flicker at a different frequency to each other and the only frame rate that they both don't flicker at is 40fps, which a lot of this video had to be filmed in. Anything higher and they tend to go nuts, which sucks as I usually like to film at 100 for smoothness and then cut it back to 50 or 60 in post.
HOWEVER, you are right because I wouldn't have know that before or had a camera I could adjust before. And any or all improvements are a direct result from comments like this one, as the best info on here is ALWAYS in the comment section 😄
@@MechaGaikotsu your lighting and videography game is on another level compared to two years ago.
I've had my PG Unicorn for well over 3 years at this point and I've gotta say, I've never run into the problems you describe during the transformation. Other than the waist joint popping off when trying to transform it (which was solved by gripping the upper chest with one hand and the grey section with the other and carefully pulling the parts into place), I've always been able to grip the parts and transform it without issue. I can understand having some trouble with the front skirts at first, but you have 2 options; first is that the small arm that holds the moving pieces onto the front of the armor protrude out the back, if you pushed it forward from behind, they'll pop out (though this may not be possible with the LEDs attached), the second is that you can pull down the tab on the bottom of the skirt armor (that are used for the Unchained mode) to get better access to the edges of those parts.
Same built all 3 of the different pg unicorn and I never had his issues

Gaikotsu isn’t known for the quality of his builds. Probably had some kind of mess up to cause the transformation issues.
I've got a copy too. Pulling on the legs was a hassle until I figured out where to grab from, but the chest ended up being my biggest problem. One side just refused to budge open. Me and my folks managed to wiggle it out, but I'm still worried that if I ever push it back in, I'll never get it out again. And it was only one side; the other side moved alright.
he tends to be heavyhanded with his kits, which is also why he encounters "early real grade syndrome" which isn't a thing
When you started talking about the wiring, I started wincing as I remembered my own experience with them. It was such an unbelievable hassle to get them to go into the grooves and stay there. Thank god my mum was willing to help me out with them, or my kit would've never been finished.
I think you should've used the kosmos led phenex version so that the two shields should have leds as well just to complete the look of it
With RGB lights too
And the back pack wing kind of also need some light to complete the perfectibility. Come on bandai

Also Mecha, I've built 2 MGEX Unicorns now and I've discovered that one of them have the same problem as you do, where the LED fails to light up. I've discovered that the reason might be the connecting port that goes into the butt that powers the LED strips. If you haven't already, check if it is connected properly into the butt and try to replace the batteries while you're at it. Keep experimenting around with the "Buttplug" and it should light up again.

Can confirm that both of these have worked for me on multiple occasions.
batteries on mine before made it a bit wonky and also had to plug it in better. i feel like that plug down there is getting wrenched a bit out sometimes when youre really handeling that thing. it likes to wiggle out im thinking. there is no clip to hold it in. with all connectors some just need a good reseat. i almost had a dam scare with the eyes before
@@keesoudwater111 Mmmm i'm not too sure about that because for me it connects super well, I think you need to match the plug with the port properly because there is a groove where it sits snug and tight
Yeah, this was what I've had to do a few times. That being said even though I've only bought and built it once, I have an issue in terms of the MGEX considering the price point lol. The LED's really should've been RGB, especially if they aren't going to make any PB variants(I know they've said they had no plans to, but I know that's just BS, anyone that has been building gunpla for the past 10 years will know that a PB MGEX unicorn is just an event away.)

The only reason why i want to buy this kit is because i know it will take me a lot of time to build this one. Cause i know that once I'm done building this one I'll want to buy another one and i can't have that.
One thing I’ve never experienced is having a Gundam buying experience, seeing a full size Mobile Suit and having a selection. I’ve put tiny waterside decals on an RG tho 🤣. Excellent review!!!
The base gundam, PG Unicorn will always have a special place in my heart. That excitement. The first toy where I actually saved up for.
I've never done water slides until the mg Wing Zero and Epyon so I looked up how to apply water slide decals and most of the videos I watched said to dip them in to lukewarm water for 30 to 35 seconds then use qutips to move the decal from the sheet onto the kit and it worked well for me.

I have the HG of this kit, and there was so much plastic. And that kit doesn't even transform. The PG looks outstanding.

Oh... that explains why I was having so much trouble with the decals on my Wing Zero Ver Ka. Glad I have almost an entire extra decal sheet in case any of the others fall off!

It looks gorgeous, ive build the PG unicorn (Rx-0) and i agree building the kit after airbrushing felt like the bane of my existence. Compared to a MG ver ka. Also you should've tried 3rd party leds(Kosmos Led unit) , its way brighter, usb powered and a remote for less money
I really wanna see Bandai make PGs of a lot of the Wing MS. Like the gundams, Tallgeese, Epyon. That be badass.
They always find a way to release a more ridiculously good Unicorn model kit. I thought the MGEX was their final best Unicorn.

Kinda interesting to hear you give the PG Exia a bit of shit after a few years, considering it was “perfect” back then. Maybe I’m biased because it’s the only PG I’ve built to date, but I still think it’s an excellent kit, especially with some 3rd party LEDs.
PG Exia is good, it's just Exia by nature itself is very simple, it doesn't have transformation like Unicorn, Zeta, big backpacks like Perfect Strike, fancy wings like SFreedom or innerframe like Gp-01. It's also kind of small so it has less shelf presence than the other PGs.
@@anhson9850 true, I guess the selling point was the LEDs, which imo are still maybe the best they’ve done on a kit? MGEX Unicorn is close but PG Exia has multiple colours/modes, cycling in the GN drive, fading in and out, etc.

On the last New Year celebration I bought a PG RX-78-2. Like it a lot, but honestly think that he will be my first and only that big and expensive Gundam.

The reason you were left with a matte finish on the part after using the GunPrimer balancers is because they are each two stage. For the White one, you use the underside (green?) to prepare the surface then flip it over to use the actual white side (with the logo) to buff to a gloss finish.
So the full process with both would be: Grey Underside -> Grey Topside -> White Underside -> White Topside.
100% agree with the LED criticisms. I had an easier time with the MGEX than this. I absolutely love this kit though! it is magnificent. I was so excited to see you reviewing this kit!
I want this kit so bad. This is ny favorite version on the unicorn gundam.
When I finally get around to it, this will probably be the only version of the Unicorn I’d like to own
i used clear blue for the armed armor claw. i have yet to work on the backpack tho. hopefully there's no needed parts from the metallic blue except for the mane thingy
I'd like to add that I also Clear gloss coat, apply water slides, then top coat in desired finish clear coat. that way decals never get messed up

Hello, I love you're channel and the reason why I got back to doing gunpla again. I actually just ordered this kit and my first PG to do, but I wanted to ask what was you're way of top coating this kit?
Did you know that you could actually place the hyper beam javelin around the XC units when in unicorn mode? It sits there just like in the animation, just have to change the orientation of the connector in the middle so that the peg/nub faces down
I was quite bitter when this came out because I just splurged on the PG Phenex Narrative Ver. But now I'm just excited to build mine. I already had the LED because I found one on sale on my local hobby store for like half srp so I just bought it even though I don't have the kit for it yet. But I'm thinking of using the Kosmos LED since they have the one for the Armed Armor DE's now.

Never knew about the Kosmos ones. I had the LEDs already for my unbuilt Phenex so I jsut stole them for this build. Might actually look into thos kosmos ones for the Phenex now

My mgex LEDs still work, and I never had the pull apart problem with transforming my original pg unicorn armed armor bs is beam smart gun and hj is hyper beam javelin btw

The mgex is a bit funky and it seems like the lights burn out but you just need to switch it on and off again a few times
Also you know this thing costs an arm, and probably a leg, just from the box it comes in!
I dunno if it’s the same issue with your MGEX, but when mine wasn’t lighting up, I found that using a different type and brand of battery fixed my issue
Wasn't quite sold on the divine expansion as it looks like its just the FA expansion for the normal release unicorn, but renamed.
I also have to agree that the wiring is the more annoying part of the build, but once you've done it once or twice you kinda get used to it. Absolutely love the unicorn kits and have been waiting for my perfectibility for 5 months, so hoping it will come soon.
Question, I’ve always wanted to get into Gunpla and this is the only set that’s really caught my eye. But since I’m new I don’t know if I’ll be able to build it. Is it really difficult or will I be able to manage?
@@fraze6944 uh it's not impossible if you take your time but I would really advice you to work your way up by doing some high grades a and a master grade. Just to get a feel for it.
@@fraze6944 if its your first, I would say that it'll be a struggle, especially if your going for the full lighting build, as the wires can be fiddley as heck. I wouldn't say its impossible though, just time consuming. Me being a total muppet dove in the deep end and tried a PG unicorn as like my second or third proper build, it took a few days and patience but got it built. I would recommend doing a Master grade and a real grade (which this version of unicorn does have (although quiet pricey)) as they will set you up nicely with an understanding of what different symbols mean as the PG unicorns manuals don't normally get updated like the newest ones have been. Couple kits to consider as easy builders would be a RG unicorn and the MG ver ka wing zero custom due to ease and learning. I think the symbols in the instructions are explained in newer HG kits like the helios gundam
However back to your question, it isn't impossible, just make sure to take your time, have patience, use good tools and deffo watch some of the gundam tubers best tips etc as they will help. Happy building!

Are the backpack arms only available in the perfectibility? I remember the pg phenex have the same, it's just that the rg cheaped out and didn't do the same mechanism

While I do love Gunpla, I don't like posing and transforming them. So all my PG Unicorns are permanently in destroy mode and just standing straight. Like how I imagine they'd be stored irl. They look AWESOME. Already have the original, banshee, and phenex. LEDs included. Looking forward to buying the final battle version and perfectability.
I wanna ask, is the mgex unicorn LED broken or just needed a battery change?

i build the PG Full Armor Unicorn and i agree the Transformation is really annoying especially the Torso and Waist part. some of the small bit often came off. and the stand support of the Fuel tank didn't fully design to support it and with the heavy Back + loose Knee is hardly stand and often fall.
Mecha going to FINALLY start using waterslides!.. If you ever want to offload any of the hundreds of sets you have, I would buy!

im not sure how but i cant quite figure out what im doing wrong when it comes to this kits chest piece, im not currently putting in led lights but i cant get the chest unit D to fit in the back properly with following steps up to that point and i cant find any part of this video that details that specific process other than some pieces are hard to put together.
So this is why I haven't really seen a serious review from you for a bit. That makes sense.
Also if you think wiring this is rough try wiring a custom lightsaber, That can be super rough.

MG Extreme, I thought mine dead too,but after some jiggling with the on/off button, it fixed itself.
I'll try giving it a bit more of a wiggle. On/Off switches tend to be prone to corrosion

My guess for the decals not having writing was they just scaled up the existing decals on to a new sheet

My next Unicorn will be the RG Perfectability whenever that is. It runs around 120 bucks. Good enough for me. But yes this PG is ridiculously awesome.

I have perfect grades of the OG unicorn, the Final battle unicorn, the final battle Banshee and the original first release phenex… how dare you make we want to build the same god damn kit for a fifth time
They should release a master grade extreme version of this model. They could have when they originally released that model. All they really needed to do was ad a few extra runners for the extra shield parts and weapons… and had an LED system that can also glow blue.
Can't imagine if Bandai make MG EX unicorn perfectability.. Or they just make the PG EX of it
