Old School RuneScape's most creative boss ever was supposed to release in 2017. Over six years later, Jagex still has not added it to OSRS. This boss is the reason that rare fossils are useless, and may remain that way forever. Find out why the team refuses to finish it.

I actually had no idea that Jagex had a plan for Fossil Island all the way back in 2006. I knew about the barge, and I knew it was going to go somewhere eventually, but as time went on, I thought that Jagex just didn't have a plan for it yet. Hopefully this video will remind people about the boss, and finally get Jagex to make it.

Fossil Island is one of the areas that really oozes passion and has well thought out activities to enjoy. And even then I've said to myself "Man I wish there was more here"

In RS3 after doing the Rag and Bone Man quests you get access to a weekly boss battle against a skeletal monster that loses limbs as you deal damage, lowering its power with each lost limb. Once it loses a limb you need to grab it from the ground and bury it to prevent reattachment. If you beat it you get a decent chunk of slayer and prayer xp, and it can drop clue scrolls and, if you're really lucky, the skeletal champion challenge scroll.
Funny how Jagex's less beloved game is given a cool idea like this that was promised for oldschool..the MORE popular game...Sigh

@@ducksquidbat8315 If we were talking about total accounts then yeah. But only a small fraction of those bots of logged it at any one time, the actual number of players in osrs is still much higher than RS3 and that’s not even taking into account RS3’s bots too.
You should think a bit more rationally rather than taking things at face value.
Fun Fact: In OSRS after doing the Rag and Bone Man quests, Jagex uses onomatopoeia to describe the sounds coming from inside of the sack. They settled on “Snigger Snigger” as one of the sounds.

I love the synergy between OSRS and RS3 here. OSRS has it as Fossil Island, as it's the Island found in the current time, and it's about how the island thrives after all this time. In RS3 it's a twist in that the island is Anachronia - or Orthen as the Dragonkin called it - and is pulled from the past and sits there following the destruction of the city. Instead of fossils it has living dinosaurs, and features lots of training methods including an agility course that covers the entire island, and Big Game Hunter which is a Hunter minigame that is honestly a lot of fun.

@@Elit3Blaze If you'll allow me to be a pedantic asshole: Dinosaurs have been in Runescape longer than iron pickaxes have been in the game. Naturally I'm talking about the most iconic and well known dinosaur, the chicken.

@@Elit3Blaze To sum up the lore: Anachronia had dinosaurs on it when the Dragonkin settled there. Kerapac - a well known Dactyl Dragonkin who wants to break the Stone of Jas curse - ends up with a elder god artifact that lets him affect time and he pulls the island back from the past so that he can have his old laboratory again.
The name "Fossil Island" always felt too on-the-nose or silly to me. It always made the place feel like a big joke even if there are quite a few cool things there.
I totally feel that, I wish they went with a different name for the final design

Fossil Island is the reason I came to Old School and got back into runescape. To this day its still my favorite place to just hang out at and do stuff. Thank you Mod Maz!

It would be cool if you could clean the fossils and obtain different parts, where there are 10 parts in total and you need to use 5 different fossils together to make a boss that has mechanics based on which parts were used
i miss Mod Maz. she got a lot of undeserved hate from the community but she had a real sense of what Runescape should be, not just EHP

@@ShortdoodIn the comparison, what was promised was far greater than what was delivered. I love Fossil Island and I'm there almost every time I log on for a variety of reasons, but after seeing what might have been I can understand why some feel it was underwhelming.

Tbh I hopped on and immediately did the "Tower of Life" quest when it was released because the idea of constructing creatures to battle got me sooooo pumped... was really annoyed when I realized, I didn't have anything to do with the customization of the monster. -_-
Give out agility XP lamps for the rare fossils and all will be forgiven

Very interesting how Andrew Gower took the fossil building idea himself over to "Brighter Shores".
As somebody who played RuneScape back in the day before eventually moving on, this channel is really interesting to say the least. Still not keen to return though, as I really played it for almost a decade and a half with virtually no breaks in between, hence why I’m so burned out still.
I have a request: I've tried to find the origins of NHing PKing as we see it today (overheads, tribrid setup), like any big name TH-camrs from back in the day. I can't seem to find anything. Why NHing suddenly became so popular is also a mystery. Can you do a deep dive on that? (i.e. how did NHing as we see it today emerge?).

Not only does runescape 3 have fossil island, they actually have a boss there too, and a weird ass hunter method where you gotta kill dinosaurs.

I don't want this because grinding fossils for a boss seems like a huge hassle. We shouldn't mix training with bossing like this

they really should add a quest for a new boss for fossil island. do like 3 different ones (one for each combat style) make it not late late game but mid late.

something ive been wondering for a while as a huge fan of dovydas (a friend)
how come nobody in the creator community talks about him these days? he was at one time the most subscribed runescape channel on youtube. these days it feels like osrs content creators pretend he doesnt exist, so it was genuinely shocking to see him (almost) mentioned in this video. i genuinely cant remember the last time i heard someone mention him. and even more strange, dovy never mentions anyone else either. is it him being antisocial, or does this community shun him for the somewhat questionable choices he has made in the past? it kinda makes me sad to think about, because if it wasnt for him, i would have quite literally never played old school runescape, and therefor would not even be a fan of runescape content to this day. maybe im overthinking it. whats your take nello?
Its just cause he mostly does his own thing, similar to sparc mac. But b0aty and other people mention him occasionally and no one really dislikes him

I don't know the full extent about what was promised for the fossil island boss but from what you said it straight up sounds ambitious from the get go as too good to be true, almost all games that promise a update thats super complex and unique and cool sounding almost always either cancel it or provide something thats a embarassing attempt at it. It really is unfortunate that they did a silent discontinue and it kept the hype for way too long. I agree with them on "the players would be massively disappointed if we do anything thats not what the original idea was" maybe they could find something to do with the rare fossil but it probably would be best its not something thats supposed to be a replacement like a boss if they are gonna not add the original idea. The safest thing would probably be increase the prayer gain on it by a lot. Just my take atleast.

"island where you can train every skill in the game" sounds like what they did to rs3. one of their biggest mistakes imo. honestly i would rather they add new skills or raise skill caps. one of the things runescape does fairly well compared to any other mmo is that content doesnt realy get outdated.
rs3 started working on anachronia before osrs started anything on fossil island
Some of my old clan mates got to meet Maz in person at Jagex HQ. Maz was my clans jmod contact back in RS3 after we were invited to Jagex to compete in Jcup finals on stream at LAN. She used to idle in our cc and talk once in a while on her jmod account. I was very sad to hear when she did finally leave Jagex.

This was a great video never knew about the fossil island boss before watching and now knowing about kinda sad it isn’t a thing in OSRS especially since I feel like it would also add additional incentive for players to kill ancient wyverns for rare fossil drops
I don't play anymore but I was really bummed out that we didn't at least get a wyvern boss. Even it was just a demi-boss like Sarachnis.
Fossil island wyverns always put a scowl on my face for slayer.

As formerly ranked 3 Deranged Archaeologist I highly DISAGREE this boss can one shot you that’s something Crazy Archaeologist can’t do.
At this point, whatever the boss will be, it's gonna be a letdown, too many years too much hype, it won't live up to the expectations
I feel like this video casually mixes RS2 with OSRS like they're part of the same timeline and that this content doesn't already exist in some form in RS3 .. I'm so confused
PleAse haves the idea of creating different versions of the same boss depending on what parts you attach and that could affect what unique it could put out

There is a boss similar where you put full blood torva and vls on the warrior armory animate stand and give it bowfa and Virtus to it's a complete Monster

Now OSRS has the opposite problem; a gazillion updates a day, many of which nobody really asked for to begin with. I always worried about it ages ago when I saw how there was an extremely loud vocal minority who'd complain about everything and demand the game's fed a constant and increasingly growing drip of content even though they peaked at like 1500 total lvl and hadn't experienced 1/4th the available content. Jagex seemed to be listening to them a lot, then they came up with what I saw was one of the worst transgressions/mistakes ever, with the scheduled updates system where updates were to be dropped every x amount of time, x amount of size/impact. Not updates that were genuinely a eureka moment of inspiration someone or a group of devs had where they came up with a great idea and then implemented it, or worked on tweaking things that have needed work for a long time (like small tweaks). In other words quantity/obligation vs quality and integrity of the game. I always thought updates should only be made like that, when they're extremely meaningful, well thought out, and take not only the integrity and originality of the game in mind, but also the longevity. Don't wanna get to tier 99 weapons and all the raids and reworks imaginable as fast as possible, you wanna spread them out so by the time you've ruined the game, there won't be a need to make osrs part 3 because we'll be old farts by then and the playerbase will have been phased out to kids who want to play a completely different game. Idk about ya'll but when I'm in the retirement home about to go, I'd like to be able to login, take a good look at my account, and go fish an inventory so I can feel like a kid again one last time.
Hard agree to literally all of this. I like to be a disagreeable asshat but this sums up how I feel. Quality and Integrity vs Quantity. The forcible quantity thing is upsetting. Especially, imo, sailing. Screw new skills, lemme keep my max cape.
