This week, Ginny, Mike and Tom shoot the electric breeze on a variety of subjects, including World Car of the Year, the long-awaited return of the Ford Explorer and Omoda's arrival in the UK . The team also answer listeners' questions to help them find the perfect electric car.
If you have a car buying question or want to be included in our postbag, add your comment below or message us at info@electrifying.com.
Every week, the Electrifying.com meet online to discuss all the important matters at hand. Such as the weather, what we’re all having for our tea and who dumped who in last night’s Love Island. Between these heavyweight subjects, we also talk about electric cars. A lot. Probably an unhealthy amount to be honest.
And when we do discuss cars, we find out a lot. From industry gossip to the more mundane practicalities of electric car ownership, it’s the place where we dish the dirt on the cars we’ve been driving and deliver our own verdicts on the latest electric car news. We also like to have a good laugh at the daftest bits of anti-electric news that we’ve seen in the press.
We can’t promise that you’ll learn much. You probably won’t. But if you fancy 30 minutes of idle chat and gossip about the world of electric cars, we’re here for you. If you like it / hate it / think it’s too long or too short, let us know. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Should you be able to pull up to a charger, swipe your credit card & charge it without an app? For me, it should be the law.
It's been law for a few years now on all new chargers. It's partly why Tesla v4 superchargers have the payment option
Thanks for another shout out Nicola and for that you are forgiven for the Mini Morris faux pas😂! A point on the multi vendor charging without using an app to actually charge you can join Octopus Electoverse as somebody else has already mentioned but request their RFID car which will work at a variety of different charging vendors without a data connection and earn you Octopoints as a secondary benefit. You need to be an Octopus customer but if you have an EV particularly with solar & battery at home why wouldn’t you be?
Another top Kilowatt 1/2 hour (+10 mins) gang. Great banter as usual.
Hi. I’ve just done 1100 miles from Northumberland through Normandy (France for the geographically embarrassed), in my EV6…. Absolutely no problems at all, great experience, so smooth (like driving on rails). The charging network in the UK is absolutely brilliant……
Ps. I got 4.1 miles per kWh…..
On the topic of consumers not buying EV's. I will definitely buy an EV at some point. I leased an electric Hyundai Ioniq for a few years and loved it. If the Aptera was available I'd sell my children to buy it. Otherwise I want a decent quality, sub 20k, 250 mile range EV with a long warranty.
Great show! I just did a roadtrip in my long range Polestar 2 from Kangaroo Island to the Western Australia border to test out the new solar hybrid off-grid charger at Nullarbor Roadhouse. The whole 8-day 3000km trip only cost me $350 for charging and accomodation, camping and charging at caravan parks. It was a lovely journey and fantastically cheap. The solar charger was very interesting too.
Dealers may be moaning that they aren’t selling enough EVs, but when I went around several showrooms yesterday, most brands didn’t have any EVs to look at.
Great to see Batch back.
Wow, you just read my mail, a first for me!. EV sales are increasing although with this focus on monthly's, it is no wonder a lot of new car purchases are business purchase. BTW, on my 1200 mile trip I stopped at Tebay South on my way home (just for the farm shop 🙂 and there are chargers (not the Tesla ones) on the left as you go into the main car park. Take the first left and there is an area there with a duplicate set, the same as the ones northbound. I didn't need to charge but they are there.
Yeahhhh, ✨✨✨✨✨ 5 stars, me happy with my favorite 30 minutes electric fun.
We bought our first EV. One of the first Citroën ë-C3 Max in the Netherlands.
We will have to wait till September/October when Citroën starts to deliver.
2024 was the last year buyers could get €2950 tax reduction on new EV's. In 2025 it is 0.
We looked at the Mini, but that is around DOUBLE the price of the ë-C3.
Looking forwards to listening! There's some strange bots in these comments 🧐😅

Love this weekly catch up.
You guys looked like you had far too much fun making this 😂
You guys do make me laugh. Keep it up.
Thank you very much.
In relation to car sales, car dealerships don't help. My parents went to buy a new car. The dealer told them not to go for an electric car as the batteries will lose half its range and catch fire after 5 years.
The trouble is, because the car sales person said it, it put my parents off and nothing could get it out of their head, even when I pointed out that battery warranties are 8 years/100,000 miles so they could be pretty confident it would last at least 10 years.
They bought an ICE car. 🙄
The Aceman, it's Ace, man
Another fantastic episode and fun watch. Thank you.
It’s mostly people of a certain age who sat up and took notice about mini moris cock up.
the batch is even more british than most. very enjoyable too. you all are!!!
I'm 100% with Clive Why did you have to have apps for everything? This is one thing won't get electric car Much easier just to put your credit card in PAY for electric? DONE
Would be even better if you could tap card and it got charged back to your domestic account, then just add an “access” charge to the enabler
The Seagull will steal the fish and Chips
I have to keep my megane etech fob in a tin because of the flashing lights and unlocking. The slitest movement of my dog walking past the hook it hung on would set it off, then 20 minutes later, the alarm would go off. I did turn it off, but the fob is a pain in the dark, especially when trying to plug in. The tin works but I have to be quick unlocking the front door.
The Casper looks a bit like the Suzuki Ignis. I suppose there’s only so much you can do to a city car, in an attempt to making it look chunky.
The front view of the Seagull, shows a pronounced over-bite or it’s swallowed its tongue. While the profile looks like a training shoe.
Wayhay.... Ionity Carlisle. Never seems to be that busy, when I go past, so, a winner! The Tebay other chargers are a bit of problem, if you head past the hotel entrance, that seems to suggest it is for hotel users only. Head past there and you get on the most ridiculous narrow roads, where you don't want to meet a tractor! The sooner the Tebay Tesla chargers are opened to all, the better of course. Apart from that, the food available looks amazing.
Don't mind you guys going overtime at all, you should think about every so often when it works do a full hour so you can claim it as the full kWh. :) Next week you can pick on Ginny for picking such an "Affordable" car for the masses to review but at least it was in the downpour rain as well.
Being able to pay by card at a charger without an app should be the norm, apps should be optional for discounts/loyalty rewards etc. I also think every new build should include plans for solar, off-street parking and an ev charger or be denied planning permission.
Do we have any ideas when will the pricing on the new Renault 5 variants be confirmed?
Tebay is the services at junction 38, the one you mean is Westmorland services, after junction 38 north bound and after junction 39 south bound. Love the content which is fun and informative 😊
I know Sussex quite well and to give that as an example of typical availability of public charging is simply misleading. If you live on the Welsh Marches as I do then public charging is nowhere near as good. Public charging is not yet good enough and universal for people who can not charge at home.
About the data, if Clive has a car with internet and a hot spot should not be a problem
A shout out here for Markham Vale Services, just off J29 M1 and with great variety of diners, and EVPoint 300kW chargers at 65p , bargain.
The incentive with EVs is to buy tomorrow and get something better than today. Some of the massive discounts are tempting having said that.
Why aren’t charging rates advertised like petrol prices at charging and multi fuel forecourts?! Especially those with a mix of charging suppliers, saw prices of 49p per kw for off peak open tesla superchargers across from other suppliers fast chargers at 79p per kw and the Tesla ones weren’t even being used and all the others were full so they were all paying far higher prices. Why is there no regulation yet on charging prices?!
You can usually find out easily in apps.
@@ObiePaddles as was said in this video, people don’t want to have to rely on apps and their phones!
Mate, the clowns on here are telling us that excess electricity is going to be free when there is excess, off peak electricity. Cannot see that happening anytime soon. Because Tony Seba says so. LOL.
@@neildolan7177It already is free at times on certain Octopus tariffs. In fact sometimes they pay you.
@@worldofcars_ldn they don’t. They still can and that’s what you have to do today. It’s also what you have to do if you want to compare fuel prices for gqs stations that aren’t next door to each other.
Being someone who has previously taken advantage of 2 salary sacrifice electric cars, I have replaced both in the last 2 months with a personal lease of an ORA which replaced the E-up and replaced the ID3 with a used 3 year old ID4 1st edition with just 15000 miles on the clock, it was only registered 1 week before the ID3 and has cost me £24000 on low rate finance, so monthly cost also less than previous ID3 lease. I guess the point is that the value right now is with low mileage used cars so why buy new, only got the Ora because it was £140 per month and as the second car, I could not get a used 170 mile range car at this price level.
Actually horse riders I think like it they hear my tires I turn off air conditioning and the radio give them space and I go past smooth calm no revs .
I know that some cars have a noise that is played when driving at slow speeds, but they normally sound like a spaceship 🛸 or an old man 🧓🏻 groaning getting out of a chair ... I wonder if you can download the clickty-clack of horse shoes as an option, that should calm those poor ponies 🐴
Used EV sales are up over 70% over last year... according to SMTP.
Hello Nicola, I don't have an e v yet but I hear you talking about 1 pedal driving and I assume lifting off the Go pedal slows the car as in braking. Does the brake light come on to show the car behind you are slowing down. Not too silly a question I hope.
Yes, they do. On Kia/Hyundai, for instance, brake lights come on with regen on level 2 or 3. Not on level 1, as it’s just like an ICE coasting.
As they do for adaptive cruise control.
@@Mancozeb100 thanks for that, makes sense
Feel free to ask any questions; No silly question on this forum, we all like each other here. Just silly presenters... I mean 'grubby trotters' what were you thinking 😂 I don't know how he got away with that.
On car sales, the main issue is that car companies are just too expensive and so not understand that they should be at price parity to compete! Vauxhall realised this and dropped prices, as they always do.
If only there was a way to make the salary sacrifice EV scheme available to all employees. A lot of companies and organisations don't offer it.
Question for the team. Tom mentioned he charges between 12.30am and 4.30am. Is this a daily charge, or is this a charge when the battery is at a lower level, say 20%?
I only charge my Volvo once per week as we only do about 8000 miles a year, sooo, the question is, is it better to charge once with a larger and longer charge or is it better to charge regularly, say daily or every couple of days with shorter charging sessions?
Clearly like Tom, the cost of charging will affect things but also, does frequent charging degrade the battery more??
Re the Mini - it would be interesting to compare the models' footprints.
I don't need to buy an electric atm as my current Renault has less than 50,000kms. Atm, I see electric cars improving every day, particularly with battery technology. But dropping the prices also reduces the second-hand value for people who have paid full price. These two factors must be putting people off buying them until the market settles down. Most of my mileage is shopping, but I have a 1.5 tonnes camper, so choosing an EV is tricky as I don't use the camper very often. Love the look of the Renault 5 but I am not expecting it in Australia anytime soon. I saw someone test drive the Hyundai Ionic something N. How good was that. It's a better cross over than a hybrid because it's fully electric with all the feel of a petrol car. It blew me away.
Omg thank god CUPRA Tavascan yes at last waiting all year looks sick take my money!!!! Review asap please
So she couldn’t figure out that when the road was closed for 5 weeks, children and horses got used to walking/playing on the road hence the new danger.
Hello, Electrifying. That question about public charging. What about Octopus Electroverse? Might that work?
A small point but, all of your reviews praise manufacturers for underfloor storage, in the boot of the car, for somewhere to place your charging cables. If you’re on a long journey, perhaps with passengers and luggage, is it really as practical when you have to unload the boot to charge?
Whenever I've seen a dealer cover second hand ev sales based on autotrader the numbers and "market health" are very good! So I'm confused now.
Looked it up used ev sales are up 70%!
Interesting re new car incentives. Volvo & BMW don't seem to be interested but maybe that will change over the next few months as we draw closer to the end of the year?
Because of lead delivery times, I may be looking to place an order to replace my existing car in August or September, what's the chance of these incentives continuing? I can only hope?
Not necessarily the weather that was the difference in the BYD efficiency... I do a 200km round trip once a week .... Efficiency really good heading there (more downhill), poor heading back (more uphill). So your trip to the "Barn" was one way ... Your efficiency on the return journey may have been significantly better ...
The problem with sales is partly the totally mixed signals coming from the government they kept the mandate for car manufacturers but put the change for new cars back to 2035 although the guy responsible for that in Labour have said They're going to reinstall 2030. And yes withdrawal of individual incentives and yes the click bait bad stories.
BP pulse subscribers can use a key fob. Rather than using the app, just a shame they charge £0.63 kwh, ionity passport subscribers £0.56.

My Octopus Go cheap rate is 23:30 to 05:30, are there different tariffs?
That sounds like ‘Intelligent Octopus Go’ for which the cheap rate is 7.5p.

Was you aware that MINI’s spike assistant isn’t a free service and that it’s only a trial for 90 days after car purchase?
Cars can be as cheap as cheese but if BANKS won't lend you money at a decent rate, how can people buy?
I have never been late with any loans in 30 years, earn a decent wage and yet I'm offered loans at 15% to 20%... They can stick those lending rates where the sun doesn't shine!
The 'Ace-Male-identifier'?
Complaining about the efficiency without using ANY actual efficiency numbers. Driving me crazy here.
Tom I think there's something wrong with your camera - it stutters and jumps a lot, not happening with the others on close up.
Where is T Bay?
I think you’re wrong about the used EV market; several others in the industry have reported it to be buoyant.
The Horncastle pub lol
That microphone is losing you about 20% of the screen area. The others don't need anything as obtrusive - why do you need it?
It’s a voiceover mic that I move over from my voiceover booth. It’s just easier rather than faffing and moving it around too much and it sounds nicer
@@nicolahume and I agree the sound quality is spot on too, or that could just be your natural voice. Love your work and the rest of the team too, great channel 👍🏻👏🏻
Set up is for audio. (mostly) Slightly awkward when adding a camera.
Come on team, you need to get out and do some long road trips with with your EV's and give good feedback on real world ranges and the charging network and it's prices. Instead of all this flitting off to be indulged by the car companies.

I can never understand the English aversion to BYD. Apart from the Seal, there seems to be an unwritten rule that English journos trash BYD.
I’ve had an Atto 3 since October last year and for me it’s the best car I’ve ever had!
I drive it daily averaging 450km’s a week and it handles it fine. I drive on occasion 2 hours down the freeway at 110km’s ph and it just runs perfectly. It cost me AUD$50k for the long range (before the miserly state rebate of $3.5k) which was great value. My rev head wife has totally converted to EV’s now.
Honestly really don’t know what your problem is.
Peter, interested in your Aussie experience - does your Atto 3 have the same bings and bon’s issue on the safety features, or this a European problem?
I really liked the Atto when I did a test drive but my nearest dealer is 2hrs away so rather impractical at the moment.
Naw… I think Batch has been swayed by the fossil fools' petrolganda. There is no slowdown with EV sales. Last quarter on this side of the pond, they hit the highest percentage of the market to date: 11.22%. Hmmm. Now I want to see Nicola's doggies in one of these episodes.
1:30 Jumped on a plain to burn combustion Mm.

I cant believe how far behind this channel is on the chinese cars... your main YT competitor was discussing the BYD Seagull/ mini over 12mnths ago....disappointing.
To be fair they did mention it here. It was only confirmed for the UK recently though, so now is the good time for the extra focus
@@benrgrogan Meh..they mentioned a name change...I'm talking about being more focused on cars that will actually be transforming the market..not vehicles that are already old tech being pushed out to the consumer by legacy manufactuers trying to get rid of stock. I like the channel...and what they do..and it's not a crticism as such..I just think they're missing a massive part of the market we all need to be up to date on...the Chinese are coming..no matter what we thinkof it...and notification of change of name doesnt quite cover it. Hope the team are able to get access and focus on what is coming this way..very very soon :)
@@ianlyons6563 Oh don't get me wrong I completely get your point (although in this case I have seen them talk about the seagull before).
I've followed the Chinese market for 15 years or so now and it's been a general failing of the UK press....I guess in the case of EV's a lot of the press got a bit burned from over hyping the Ora Cat.
If there is anything I've learnt from following the Chinese market for so long, unless you have someone out there in China to test these products it is very easy to get too excited about a product that never comes or a car that isn't quite what it's made out to be.
Tom's video feed seems to be getting worse (more glitches / frame skips) in recent episodes. It's a bit distracting. Can anything be done to prevent it please?
As well as his studio lighting. Blow-out glare from behind-side and face almost totally in shadow. A light shade over the window and a little "behind the camera" studio light will help.
