The Dmax Touring (re)Build Series E01 || Reducing In-Cab Noise - New Exhaust and Sound Deadening Cab

  • The first of the Dmax Touring re(Build) Series!!!
    This episode I tackle the road/engine/exhaust noise in the cabin that drives us absolutely mad on long drives.
    First I replace my dodgy shortened hotdog muffler with a proper muffler and full length tail pipe and then I remove the entire interior of the cab to install sound deadening material on the floor, rear wall and ceiling.
    I test the results with a DB app, and it shows a huge reduction in noise which we've definitely noticed. Well worth the time, effort and the money.
    Keep an eye out for the next Dmax Touring re(Build) episode, some great stuff coming up including a behind the scenes look at a Pedders GVM and brake upgrade being performed, designing and building my dream canopy with ThunderFab and a bullet proof Offroad Living 12v fit out including Allspark Lithium batters, inverter and more!
    Cheers!

    Have to say the reason I have been following your channel since the start is because your not driving a stretched jacked $200,000 Landcruiser with a $100,000 overweight caravan like the rest but just doing what most of us do and that is much appreciated. Thanks for sharing it👍

      Best comment on TH-cam. So sick of these $300k touring combinations - who has that sort of money for a car? Not many! So many people thinking you need stupid excessive setups. My dmax is very similar to yours ins touring setup, it gets me everywhere a super rig would. I appreciate a genuine 4x4/touring Chanel for normal reasonable people... not mega rich or mega debt people haha.

    The sound could be venting. Think how a subwoofer works pushing air. The cab is a closed box with vent holes. So a subwoofer does not make sound like a speaker. It pushes air. So if your travelling you open a window sound changes. It just an idea to look at

    @BenMitro 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great results Cam - thanks for sharing...we need entertainment in VIC right now! I reckon the peak of 73dB is coming from the intake and looking at the snorkel, perhaps a large proportion is coming from that? I guess you could do the acceleration tests with the phone meter on the passengers side, middle then drivers side to see how much is coming from the snorkel. What you can do with that, i don't know - maybe the roof sound deadening will help, but much of it I reckon is coming from the firewall, windscreen and door glass. Just a guess mate, maybe worth investigating?

    • @WildTouring
      @WildTouring  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're probably spot on with the intake noise being the majority of the noise coming through under load.

    Hi cam regards to your wheel alignment you need too check if you have a gap from centre of rim to hub these things are hib centric had similar problems on my Ute and was only cured with having centering rings made to fill the gap to the hub 5 wheel alignments failed to advise me of these and now no issue with vibration at speed check the centre bore if original rims to aftermarket you will see a gap on new rims usually
    If you only taking vehicles weight on the studs is nit designed fir that hence vibration

    I think your results are as good as they can be, you use the same instrument to measure so results are able to be compared. How does you vehicle go with the van on though? Would you travel in a different gear with more revs? You must have the best memory to be able to put a modern car back together so epic props for that, I thought I was good taking out the seats to vacuum in my Patrol after a trip. Great content Cam...looking forward to upcoming ep's'

    I'm having my damaged roof lining replaced on my 2021 Dmax and they have to remove the windscreen to do it. Warranty job and they have to recalibrate all the cameras and sensors when they reinstall the windscreen. Gardner Isuzu. Hope yours worked out ok...

      Yeah I figured that was the case. Yeah mine all went back together alright- no cameras or sensors on my old girl!

    Hey mate question on your gvm upgrade from pedders. Been told by pedders that my gvm upgrade is still certified as long as the parts replaced are of equal or greater performance. Eg replacing the pedders foam shocks for remote res if ever they need replacing, this would still enable the gvm upgrade to be legal. Have you heard anything along those lines from pedders. This was told to me by the management in a WA store.

    I don’t find the cabin noise that bad in my dmax but that’s me. I drove an mux once and the insulation must be better than dmax as it was heaps quieter.

      Yeah mine wasn't too bad from standard. But barwork, tyres, engine mods, exhaust mods, intake mods ect have all made it worse. I agree the MUX seems to be better insulated than the Dmax.

    Do your tyres need balancing? Just looking at the vibes in your steering wheel when you are doing 100kph

      G'day Ben. I've been running Pedders GVM upgrade for a few years now and its done a brilliant job in all conditions with a lot of weight on it. They also do some great brake upgrades which I'll be looking at soon!

      I still love watching his old stuff. He was a master of survival and bushcraft. I'll have to give it a crack making my own lure! But i'll wait until im up north again where the fish are hungrier haha.
