We'd have to agree and why we awarded it our Gear of the Year Award. Pieps new micro transceiver is also another great option, not as full featured but so incredibly small and light! Read our review here:backcountryskiingcanada.com/Pieps-Micro-Transceiver
@@Backcountryskiingcanada no. I have never seen this. The toggle does seem problematic. I have noticed many people complaining about it but I've also noticed them wearing it backwards.
Sorry to say but the lock shift button i dogsh*t and breaks after some time and then it does not lock the slider and putting the transiever into the pocket it slides OFF or on to Search mode so easily translate this to "U DED" :(
Sorry to hear you've had this issue but in our testing, this has not been an issue and the first I've heard of this ever happening. You should speak with Pieps in order to get this resolved.
@@goamateur We've seen this and have not had any similar results in our testing and have been using this transceiver for years now. If the switch is cracked this would allow it to switch modes easily and should be replaced and also always carry it in the harness with the display facing your body as with any transceiver. Another good option is carrying it in a pant pocket with a clip.
Thanks, we'll see what we can do. BTW, it was just awarded our Gear of the Year, check it out: backcountryskiingcanada.com/index.php?p=page&page_id=gear_of_the_year
Do Not store this Tranciever in your pocket ! ! ! We have had 2 students with this beacon stored in pocket, and a few times during the day the beacon got bumped to OFF position ! ! ! Rendering it Useless ! please use the holster that comes with it, the holster will give much more protection in the event of an avalanche Be Safe out there 😉
I've used this particular transceiver for several years w/o issue of it switching off or into search mode. I would guess that since you need to press the lock button in order to switch modes that your students did not have it correctly in transmit mode. There is no way to switch modes unless you use another hand to press the lock button first. So I would say that it can be used in a pant pocket just fine, especially if you have a pair of Black Diamond ski pants which incorporate the "Pieps Pocket" which is a build in harness in the pocket of the pants which protects the transceiver quiet well.
Love this transceiver. I find that it does a very good job of flagging/marking, and dealing with deep burials.

@@Backcountryskiingcanada I see that the Mirco only has a 40m range. That is not enough IMO. If they can get the range up, I would get one right away.
Agreed,... but it's a start to a hopefully more powerful version two.
Hey Judson, have any similare issues that people are reporting recently with the Pieps DSP Transceivers?

I can't get the transceiver to connect to the pieps app. Got Any suggestions?
Worked first time for me. Delete it and try again. If that fails I'd send them an e-mail for help - could be a version thing or compatibility.
Great Job on this! Please do a sport as well!
