    you should demo with your transceiver whether it has the issue. like how hard is it to slide your slider when it's locked? i think people would appreciate seeing that.

  • @nooboard
    @nooboard 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    They don't say you should look for invisible (!) cracks. They say you should look if the mechanism works and if there is a visible (!) crack. They have a video showing this crack and also that you should make sure that the slider stays locked because if you or others forced the slider into a position without pushing the button it can kind of break inside before. Also a common error by users is to not slide back into send mode after turning on. A common mistake even if you did it million times before and is covered in training courses and workshops. Also if you use such a device for years then it could need a replacement. It is not that expensive and you might replace it before (!) it is broken.

    Correction Program with new case, that solves this problem

    Great video! It's important information. Just for anyone out there looking for a new beacon, the BCA tracker three( and up to current models) has a switch that actually locks into send mode. It's also located on the end of the device so it's way easier to operate.

    yeah, I had an older Pieps, that switched itself off as well at times. No warning. Some vibrations was enough

    I think is the skier´s responsibility to check regularly the functionality of all his equipment. All components might fail due to abuse or overuse, being a ski, a binding, a skiboot or whatever. Maybe these guys did not pay enough attention when turning on their device (if you don´t press enough the lock might brake). I have the very same model as the one in the video and it works fine. Again, know how your gear works, learn how to use it and check it carefully before every ride!

    Pieps are offering a cage to band aid the issue. Do the other new Pieps beacons such as the Powder BT lock properly?

    • @ChrisEyres
      @ChrisEyres  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cage is a joke, the powder bt has a different locking mechanism so it's not affected. I bought a BCA tracker 4 cause I don't trust Pieps after this debacle

      @@ChrisEyres I have contacted my retailer here in the UK and they have put me on to the main UK agent. He has responded very swiftly and said I need to go through the Pieps support email procedure.
      Pieps have so far not responded to me and I expect I’ll have to buy a totally different beacon too.
      I’ve got a Jetforce bag too which I’m tempted to sell out of sheer bloody mindedness.

    • @frayzengineering
      @frayzengineering 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just had an email back from Pieps Europe offering me a Powder BT for a further €210!!
      If they truly believe I’m to pay that to replace a product with a known healthy & safety fault, then I think I’ll take my business elsewhere.

    • @frayzengineering
      @frayzengineering 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the latest from Pieps.
      They have been quite swift in mailing me to tell me there is nothing wrong with my DSP and they won’t be providing an exchange.
      Er... it’s not fit for purpose.
      If there was no issue, why are you going to great lengths and expense to provide a “band aid” cradle to rectify a known fault?
      If there was no issue, why is it on your website in big letters that “DSP users should stop using their device immediately”
      Why immediately if there wasn’t a problem?
      Pieps Technology, this is an absolute shit show of customer service. 🤦🏽‍♂️

    On 10/28/20 I contacted Pieps looking for direction on the DSP Sport issue. 12/18/20 the reply is "We are very sorry in the long delay in your beacon claim. We recognize the inconvenience and are working as hard as we can to answer every claim as quickly as possible. Unfortunately due to numerous factors including high worldwide demand and increased transportation timeframes, we are faced with a severe inventory shortage and are momentarily unable to replace beacons. We will reach out as soon as we are able to provide timely resolutions"!!!! So no end in sight and it looks like the retailers here in Albert have long ago pulled this product. Not good enough in my opinion they should be offering a refund option.

    • @ChrisEyres
      @ChrisEyres  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the message Simon. At least you got a reply from them. Their instagram page has been inactive for a couple months. It's an odd strategy. I bought a BCA tracker 4 the other day, keep the DSP for my dog, or they upgrade it. I have found their response disappointing, I believe they are still in a class action lawsuit here in British Columbia

    Doh. I have a more recent model: the Black Diamond BT Recon (BD/Pieps are the same thing but rebranded). The safety lock seems ok, but it's hard to see under the plastic to know what's keeping the mode button in place.

    Go for Mammut. Not cheap, but is your life. A really good one.
    Pieps makes awesome products, like their airbag backpack, but with that policy of "it´s your fault", are making fools of themselves, and digging their own financial grave. We are not talking about a broken thing, we are talking about lives. Amazing...

      Yes it has, if you look closely you can see they have a different type of locking mechanism on the new ones.... The BT Sport is supposed to be very good, but their customer service around this issue has been atrocious IMO, so I wouldn't recommend their brand

    Great Video man, sometimes "heavy" information is needed. There are plenty of people out there like myself that are clueless to when buying certain items pertaining to the hobbies or sports. They either buy the cheapest item due to pocketbook, or the most expensive because they think its the best. Thanks for the information Chris!!

    When I first got DSP Pro I was not happy with the design, it looked cheap and weak to me. Then they came out with the trade in program, yet they have not fixed the problem!!!!! They will give you another flawed system.... After looking into some 3rd party fixes. I tried a 3D printed lock. The damn thing broke wile testing it on my sofa. I carry 2 beacons anyway outta paranoia, my friends USED to give me crap for it.... Now I still look funny, but its warranted.
