    The whole album is like that. Honor thy father might even be a little heavier

    This is so wholesome! Reminds me of my father when I introduced him to Dream Theater years ago. I'd see him sitting in front of the PC with the headphones on for days in a row. It feels like an awakening, doesn't it? I love Dream Theater more than words can describe ❤

      Thanks. For me, I've always known them, but was loyal to Queensryche and wouldn't give them a chance. That was a mistake.

    This album has no bad songs. "Stream of consciousness (live at budokan)" is a must watch just to see these guys playing.

    "Scarred", brah! That's pure gold. Just back to AWAKE album... for me is the best song of the band. A masterpiece.

      I was afraid that I wasn't going to be able to get into them. Just because I was biased toward them due to my undying support of Queensryche, and D.T. fans saying how much better they were to Queensryche. I will finally admit, they are better musically speaking. Not better at song writing i.m.o.

    This is the second song of a series of four songs, it is actually full of references to "The Glass Prison", which is the first one of them. Later comes The Root of All Evil (Octavarium) and Repentance (Systematic Chaos). All these songs are connected and covers the full story that Portnoy had with alcohol and drugs, therapy and so on

      Actually it's five songs. The shattered fortress is the last song in the suite which concludes it by mashing everything together for a grande finale

    similar songs
    - A nightmare to remember
    - The dark eternal night
    - War inside my head / The test that stumped them all (2 short songs that must be listened together)
    - In The Presence Of Enemies pt.1 and pt.2 (1 big song splitted in 2 parts)
    - Honor thy father

    Subscribed. Your love of Queensryche sealed it after reading comments. Dream Theater & Queensryche are my top 2. Got to see them both several years (10?) ago with Fates Warning opening for them. Superb concert.

    The heavier Dream Theater songs include: The Glass Prison ( i know you didn't want to do this but you should), Mirror/Lie, Home(mid easterny), Panic Attack, S2N,Honor thy father, In the Presence of Enemies Pt 2,Constant Motion, Nightmare to Remember, and The Shattered Fortress. If you like technically inclined songs try Pale Blue Dot, Dance of Eternity, Metropolis Pt 1, and Breaking All Illusions. They do epic songs, and ballads too. You usually can't go wrong. Enjoy!

  • @gregorykenfield3134
    @gregorykenfield3134 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Again, I'm thrilled to see you enjoying my favorite band so much! "Train of Thought" is probably their heaviest album, so you will likely enjoy most everything on it. "Systematic Chaos" is a close second, and there are a number of heavy songs on that album as well.

  • @liquidshadows79
    @liquidshadows79 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Try The Dark Eternal Night. That one is super heavy too.

    I know you're really trying to avoid The Glass Prison, but This Dying Soul is actually the 2nd part of a bigger 5 song piece (Spanning 5 albums) about Mike Portnoy's struggle with Alcohol addiction. Together they are called "The 12 step suite". They all constantly reference each other both lyrically and musically which I always thought was amazing spanning 5 albums. The songs in order are The Glass Prison (Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence), This Dying Soul (Train of Thought), The Root of All Evil (Octavarim), Repentance (Systematic Chaos), and The Shattered Fortress (Black Clouds and Silver Linings).

    • @sonicallydisruptive

      You broke me down. Ok I will do Glass Prison. Thank you!

  • @elBanananas
    @elBanananas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    now I see the type of songs you would like: The Glass Prison (the first song in the 12 step suite, This Dying Soul is second so you will hear some similar riffs), The Dark Eternal Night, and many more heavy songs but these 2 would be really good to listen next.

    Long story short this whole album has this tone. And you’re right Jordan rudess doesn’t fit in as well in this element. But you’ll see in scenes from a memory how much he means to this group

    • @sonicallydisruptive
      @sonicallydisruptive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      He was in that record. I thought he came in after. I'll start on that soon.

  • @paravarium
    @paravarium 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Train of Thought is a very shreddy album, but they still have even heavier moments outside of that one. They just try to master and put their spin on everything they do.
    This was Rudess. Sharinian was only on falling into infinity and Moore was when dream and day unite, Images and words, and awake

    • @sonicallydisruptive

    This song is such a banger, I love it. My only problem with it is the ending. It just kinda ends. I know it's supposed to be a part of the glass prison suite, but all the other songs in the set have satisfying endings. Aside from that I think this is my favorite song in the set

    I'll request this one again off their "Awake" album; 6:00. When it comes to Dream Theater that's the style and riffing I love (and for me LaBrie's vocals were the best for me). As for this one, it's one of the best songs of post-90'ies Dream Theater with that hint of middle eastern scales and the switch-ups going on with some really "fat" chugging riffs.

    • @sonicallydisruptive

    Review/react to the whole Train of Thought album this song is from, it’s a masterpiece and most of the songs have killer heavy sections. Would love if you react to Slipknot’s Nero Forte, Duality, All out Life, etc., with that killer drop B tuning.

      @@the13thhourmusicexperience14 thanks so much. But sorry, great minds think alike. Huge D. Townsend fan as well! There are many bands I am deeply into and for years they were the only thing I listened to. So I found a huge gap in music I should know. Bands like Opeth, Meshuggah, Gojira, In Flames and a ton more I never listened to. So this my way of correcting that. Let me know if there are others.
