Everyone complaining about MP’s drum fills being the same. It could be an artistic choice by the band to suggest the return of him (like old times). Also, he’s literally one of the top metal drummers of all time and amount of different styles and fills he has written is way beyond most of the drummers (of all time). Yep. They progressed with Mangini, now it's a regress back to the Portnoy days. Hell, I became a fan with Portnoy, however the sound was stale and Mangini brought a fresh take and sound. It was much needed. This, to me, is just ok, it's the old DT which is nice, I feel they abandoned the direction they were going though. Not sure why.

Mangini has been one of my favourite drummers since I heard him with extreme. His pairing with DT couldn’t have been more appropriate. This new tune bangs!!!
Feels like this song could be part of an album “Metropolis, Scenes From a Memory, Part 3”, or “Train of Thought, Part 2”. …Some vibes of “Awake” buried in there as well.

The other 4 members sound awesome on both songs and you can tell who’s behind the kit, which I personally enjoy both.
Now we have twice as much stuff to practice and be inspired by.
That laser-cut iPad/Note-stand on Jordans keyboard is pretty cool as well
Wtf new Dream Theater!?! LFG
New single.
@@altrn0 a new single from Dream Theater = new Dream Theater
@@stevienixx album dropping on February 7th 2025
@@oSileyCT-7212 I am mad hyped now, thanks for letting me know!
@@stevienixx no problem! I just looked at the description in the official music video
Got my tickets. Portland, OR. Feb 28th. Let's gooooo!
Everyone complaining about MP’s drum fills being the same. It could be an artistic choice by the band to suggest the return of him (like old times). Also, he’s literally one of the top metal drummers of all time and amount of different styles and fills he has written is way beyond most of the drummers (of all time). Pay respects people and stop whining about everything!
This is the most stupid excuse I’ve ever seen. The man is the lars Ulrich of prog metal and you all could lie to yourselves as much as you want. Musicians know.
PORTNOY =LIVING GOD DRUM LEGEND!!!!!😎😈☝️🤟💪🦾
Mike still hits the drums like a fucking god, John still plays like a god, James still sings like a god, John still rocks the bass as a god, and last but not least Jordan still plays like a fucking god. What more could you want.
God himself
Godly chorus and transition too.
creeping up on a million subs.. lets goooooo!!! I remember the days of under 400k.. Keep up the amazing work man.. Much Love!!
Ehhh sounds good but I still miss Mangini
Same here I mis the sound of almost imposible drumming😂
This is boring.
You can’t miss a replacement. Either you’re an old school DT fan or you fell into it those recent years. For every true DT fan Portnoy is homebase
I saw them for the first time ever this week in Croatia..they were awesome..killer show..SoC and Octavarium were absolutely amazing..
It sounds good. But I miss Mangini. I wish them well moving forward.
Not disrespect of Portnoy, but Mangini is different level man.. Watch it live with steve vai many2 yrs ago, that guy just super sick man.. fckk!!
@@pelagic6well said. And I hope Portnoy never tries to reproduce any of Mangini's compositions. He isn't worthy. I give it this tour and he'll be gone ....again.
@@bcdt1947 I agree. After the tour, he's gone. I'm still going to see them when they come to town...
Mangini style are out of this universe. Mp style are too simple compared to him. Boring to listen if all songs are not complex. I like dt of their complexity and uniqueness. I hope mp can make it like what I wanted. Mm he surpasses my expectations.
The transposition on the chorus near the end is absolutely amazing
Not to disrespect Portnoy, but Mangini is different level dude.. Watch it live with Vai many yrs ago, that guy was just sick as fck!!
He's gone, Portnoy is here, get over it.
@@johnmancini4403 yeah yeah yeah..i know 😔
Mangini did a very respectable job covering Portnoy's parts. I'm curious what Portnoy will do with Mangini's songs or if they'll play any of that content at all. "The Enemy Within" and "Breaking All Illusions" are two of my favorites.
@@FiveInchTaintdon't forget Illumination Theory & The Alien...wanna see it so bad
I could listen to Mangini, as long as I didn't have to watch him play! Something about the guy was just fkn weird!!
Just watched the DT video and this reaction video back to back. Awesome 20+ minutes of my slightly mundane evening 🤘🤘
The alien >>>> Night terror
1:37 that 'Im back baby' framing of Portnoy catching the cymbal is perfection.
Not my, cup of tea
Your face says it all bro…. I love that!!! Your ears are just giving your brain orgasmic energy!!! I felt the same shit when I listened for the first time, except my eyes were swelled up with tears of joy…. Portnoy and that machine is complete once again!!!
Its a downgrade for me.
They are back!!!! Great tune! and definitely sound like Metropolis. Fantastic stuff!
The progg boys are back. The drumset reminds me the same drumkit MP on six degrees or traif of thought, sounds great^^
BOING indeed! Yes I'm going to the O2 show in London NEXT WEEKEND. Can't believe it's almost here already.
It’s the Six Degrees kit! My favorite though. Can’t wait to see the new Monster in Amsterdam 😍
Mangini has been one of my favourite drummers since I heard him with extreme. His pairing with DT couldn’t have been more appropriate. However, the music they made with him while technically amazing, it was missing something. And as such while I marvelled at its technical prowess, it’s only since Portnoy has come back and this new song proves it to me, they’ve returned to that sound l loved from 1993 until about train of thought.
This new tune bangs!!!
Some people have issues with Petruccis solo I think it was new and fresh. I loved that he wasn't just doing standard shred-shit.
That drum kit is nuts 😂 ❤
Feels like this song could be part of an album “Metropolis, Scenes From a Memory, Part 3”, or “Train of Thought, Part 2”.
…Some vibes of “Awake” buried in there as well.
Fan-dam-tastic to hear this with you Samus! Freakin' AMAZING!
Great intro to DT's album. I loved Mangini's playing and he definitely fit right in with Dream Theater's sound, but it's good to have this lineup back.
I miss mm he's incredible compared to mp predictable styles.
I would really like to hear u playin' when you're reacting and breaking down the drum parts. you're a monster too man.
Reminds me of something from Train of Thought or Black Clouds & Silver Linings. Love it!
dream theater is one of the only bands on earth you could make an argument every person is the most talented person at their instrument and not be wrong
Purest Dream Theater sound, and Mike over there too. Damn I missed it
I was thinking about ticket buy for thier concert in my country, but wasn't sure (seen them 3 times, but with Mangini(, but when i heared that MP is back, I bought them instantly.
