  • I tackle the notorious "Noisy Reverb" issue with the Super-Sonic 22.
In this video I demonstrate the routing of wires between the reverb signal boosting tube (V4) and the PC board. This made a very significant difference.
I also shield the signal wire from the preamp board to the power am board.

I have been fighting that hiss for close to a year now. From alternative tubes, to moving wires, nothing has worked. I will be doing this mod, with copper tape, as soon as I get home from work today. I did get rid of the reverb feedback by stuffing the bag full of shop rags as well.
Update: did this mod and the amp has never been quieter. This should be added to the fender tech note. Well done.

So nice to hear another Saffa's accent and also somebody who loves valve amps.

Thank you for posting your instructional... You helped me repair my in, out, intermittent and sometimes non existent reverb in my Super 22 after a couple of months of trying...

Awesome! Thanks for uploading the video. I've been considering buying this amp but was affraid of the excessive noise coming mainly from the reverb. This makes sense and should fix ale the problems so I might take a chance and get one!

Great video!I just purchased the head version.I have ne issues with reverb noise but it seems that my reverb is very weak.It is not the tube.Word has is that it is not the same reverb circuit as in a DRRI or PRRI.Just wondering what you might know about this. Thanks!

The circuits are similar but not identical. I suspect that the DRRI has a better reverb tank but I may be wrong. I have an original 70's Deluxe Reverb and it is WAY more lush. My advice is to buy the best tubes you can afford and see the difference.

Maybe they did something along these lines at the shop I took mine to my reverb was really noisy and getting intermittent and would fade out and now they did something on the board and it's fixed it still had a lot of hiss though just at idle so I put a 12ay7 in v4 and now it's dead silent

How much did putting a 12ay7 in v4 effect the gain on the burn channel?

Did you end up grounding the foil wrapped cardboard to the chassis? Or was it the tube that was causing the feedback?

      I grounded the tape

@@DerekHerbst747 Awesome! Thanks for posting this video. I just bought as used Super Sonic 22 and it had this very issue with the reverb. I used your suggestions and it did work. Much quieter now.
      Thanks again!

Poor Fender, why even bother buying their pcb tube amps. The original point to point design was the reason that they became famous, now they've devolved into cheap chinese amps.
