LOL! Thanks for showing which way to press the three tabs on top. I thought they were connected to the rest of the car, not the air filter cover. So I was pushing them up! DOH!!! It works soooo much better your way! I still needed to put a butter-knife in one tab while I pressed on the other two tabs. The plastic tabs are super stiff and needed a lot of pressure.
This is a good video for help on this topic! Thank you! - Getting the glove compartment open - when you go to open the left catch (do second) the right may click back in. - With the filter's black cover's tabs, put a flathead screwdriver underneath your fingertips to save your fingertips. Far easier!! - Continuing, first pull on the tab on the right of the cover while you press down on the rightmost top tab. It should pop. Then do the middle tab and then the left tab. When you put it back, make sure the honeycombed cover side is out. - If the arm on the left fall offs, it fits back together easily. Stay calm and look at the shapes. It is simple but fragile. pen can be irritating.
This great advice. Once you work out how to just push on the bottom tabs it does not need much pressure. I used a screwdriver as well. But before this getting the glovebox to drop down required a lot of pressure on the 2 tabs. I found that difficult. Then it needs another tug to get it to drop down all the way and the plastic slider drops out of its guide.
Thanks, I did this twice before but forgot how to do it. The clips are terrible, I almost had to break them to get the glovebox to open. Then the gear that slows the opening popped out, but you just put it back in with the bigger gear facing the outide of the car
The Mann Frecious Plus filters are the best- not cheap but you're saving big $ by installing it yourself. They eliminate mould, odour and fine particulates and are especially helpful to allergy sufferers
For the life of me I can't open the compartment so it'll drop down. The two "buttons" (left and right) are very rigid and won't budge. Using all my strength and nothing. I even tried with a metal piece as leverage but still nothing.
I'm going to replace mine tomorrow as my front windscreen is always misting up at night time, and none of the rest of the windys mist up just the front..plus there is a strange smell, im guessing my pollen filter is knackered and needs replaced ASAP
@@barcobird There's no separate reminder for cabin filter in MK7. There's only oil and general inspection. I remember that BMWs had 7 or 8 separate ones for cabin filter, engine filter, DPF, oil, brake pads, brake fluid...
@1:10 press the tabs "which" way. Down or Up ?? The arrows point up.. Either way with much force I can get no movement on the tabs. I'm about to forcefully rip the door off and cover it with duct tape. I figured out the issue. Seems the 3 PUSH DOWN tabs don't stick out far enough beyond the housing itself WHICH ALSO HAS 3 plastic tabs in the exact same position sandwiched just above it so it looks like ONE combined tab. Whose the VW idiot engineer who tortured us with that? I was trying to push down the housing tabs which don't move. Since its dark in there and the tabs are tightly sandwiched together (looking like one tab), I had to use a thin bladed screwdriver to separate the tabs, starting from the left. The obvious tabs at the bottom of the panel act to allow the panel to swing down. Don't break them like I did trying to remove the door from the bottom. It really needs a redesign.
Quick, simple, done in the time it takes for most vids to get through the intro. Thanks
Happy to help!
Guys like you making videos like these make the world a better place.
Thanks champ. The tutorial super easy to follow.

Thanks for this video. Dealer wanted $80 + tax to do this. I bought one for $12 and installed it in about 3 minutes.

Just changed my MK7 filter with 30.000km. Success!!
✌️
You should change it every year
Awesome video thanks for showing how to do this - £13 and an old black and dirty filter removed and my AC is now working great!
Happy to help!
The dealership wanted 119.99 to replace this. I bought the filter for 19.99 plus tax.
Laughable isn’t it, got my filter for £9.50. Activated carbon too
Well thought.
Day time robbery by dealers.
Dealers smoke the finest crack tho
Gotta pay the bills and the techs some how goofy
That's insane! Here in Romania at the service where I work we charge 20$ labor to change all the filters , air, cabin, oil and fuel filter ..

This happened to me too! The gear popped out and I panicked haha. Put it all back together and learned how the mechanism works in the process!
Thank you for this!! just swapped it out and the old one was solid black and had a leaves in it. Fans push more air now :D

Very good information, very good help, but how and where could we find a new filter ? Can't you give VW reference or link to shop please?

What did you do? Did you change the housing or tried to fix it back with epoxy or another glue
Good!
Great, ...only one comment: to put the stuff from the drawer on the dirty floor and then back ...is disgusting 🤮
Arrows were up on my car
From the factory or from the dealer?
