Watch a full tutorial as a 2005 GMC Sierra / Chevy Silverado will have a brand set of Rockford Fosgate speakers installed in the front door location. We will be replacing both the mid-bass driver and tweeter for a much better audio quality experience.
This video applies to GMC / Chevrolet (Chevy) Sierra / Silverado / Suburban / Yukon / Tahoe / Avalanche models for years 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. This video also includes door trim and speaker removal, wiring, installation, and testing.
NOTE: This vehicle was NOT equipped with Bose. If you have Bose, and are RETAINING the factory Bose amplifier, you will need a 2 ohm speaker in the front door. If bypassing or replacing the factory amp, any 5.25" or 6.5" 4 ohm speaker will work fine.

If it has a cross-over like the kickers, do you have to use the cross-over, and if so, how do you wire them up I have the kicker css65
What size speakers are those?
What size are the tweeters
@@chinivazquez9300 These are 1"
Ahhh! HELP! I need some guidance with hooking up a second camera to an aftermarket radio. I actually followed your video on how to set up the back up cam which was amazing and you are super descriptive and easy to understand which is why I’m asking for your help now.. I currently have a dohonest baby car seat cam. But don’t wanna have two different different monitors . So trying to hook up that cam to my aftermarket , but Bc the plugs that connect are not typical ( I’ll try and attach pics) I don’t know how to connect to my dual aftermarket stereo. (Dual DMCPA70BT) With the harness in the back, where do I plug into ?video I’m assuming since camera is now being used by my reverse cam. My camera will not need audio so how do I bypass that? help!
Awesome man this was exactly what I needed I’m so tired of crimping and electrical taping audio stuff I want to do it right now that I’ve grown up lol so thanks a lot for the parts listed!
You can use the og speaker bracket for 6.5”, just remove the insulation and remove the screws, they work perfect
So you remove the original bracket from the factory speaker and it’ll fit on a 6.5” speaker?
@@gtdcov for the front speakers yea just remove the t15 or t20 torx screws and pry the old speaker out of the bracket
@@04jhernandezfulthank you very much
@@04jhernandezful What about for the rear speakers?
@@bobbygetsbanned6049 I don’t remember using the og brakcet on the rear speaker
Great video, I believe I will use this when I install my new speakers
Great video! It's too bad you don't have a video on a standard/single cab rear speaker replacement. Quick note! 2:24, it is unnecessary to remove this screw. All it does is hold the door compartment to the door panel. It does not screw into the door itself.
They doors are the same. The rear speakers are a little different to get at but not bad. They are 4x6 rears on extended cab and Single cab.
@@leviwoodring6101 Actually, it is a lot different on a single cab/standard cab. The rear cover panel needs to be removed to access the screws that hold the vertical panels in place along with the many clips as well. Yes, they are 4 x 6, but a little more work involved with removing the panels.
@@19MarcoPolo71 ya the back panel takes all of 2 minutes to rip off. Then the 2 screws on each side that are covered by it.
6:22 from my experience if you are gentle and put a socket on them, they will come out, but you’re scraping some plastic with them and I was able to screw them gently back on there and they were holding. I was changing the door panel and the one replacing the old one did not have the whole cut out so I had to do that myself
Great video. I removed many of these door panels. I don’t believe the very bottom screw on the door panel holds anything to the door. Or maybe there was a difference in years
It holds that map pocket/ storage drawer in.
@@akclan33 yep I rennet that now. I was fairly confident it did not hold it to the door for removal.
Great video-is a great help.
I ordered the coaxial speakers and adapters in the description. But, there is no way the adapters will fit the 6.5 speakers.
Yeah its hard to get most 6.5 inch speakers to fit into the adapters. Just use self tapping screws to screw the new speaker into the door.
Can I throw in a cold axle and other tweezers?
Great video. Thank you
So you hooked the tweeters to the trucks harness instead of jumping off of the speaker?
Have you ever had a customer who had a stock component system who chose a coaxial replacement? Like for example, their mid bass speakers are blown, but the tweeters are still ok, and they opt for a coaxial replacement.
If so, when installing the new coaxial speakers, do you leave the stock tweeters installed and connected, or do you disconnect and remove them? Does leaving the stock tweeters in place hurt or improve the overall sound quality?
Do you know whether the mid bass and tweeter speaker wires are both spliced together at some point, or are they completely separate feeds from the stock radio head unit? If separate, would splicing those feeds together for coaxial speakers give a significant power boost as to speaker output, and would that be better or worse than leaving the stock tweeter connected?
They are wired inline to the main door speakers. I can tell you that.
Do a video on the bose with the A pillar tweeter
Will those adapters work on kenwood speakers?
Hi i know this is a long shot but recently replaced my front speakers to my 2001 silverado with coaxial speakers but suddenly got no sound from them after install they worked when i tested them but not after placing the door card back on
Your speaker fuze might be blown or your wires could just be bad, I had the same problem after replacing my rear speakers and it was just the fuze being blown
Where did you get the harness adapter
Chris, are there harnesses for the tweeters?
Do the rear speakers need the adapter bracket? Or they have holes that line up?
What size is the factory tweeter
I'm considering the punch series component set and it comes with a crossover, do I need to use this? Also, crutchfield is telling me the 6.5 coaxial speakers i have picked for the back doors are incorrect, but tells me the component speakers are correct even though the back door speakers don't have separate tweeters. Just mid drivers. 2004 gmc yukon.
So I can replace my bose speakers with aftermarket ones and they will play with the factory Bose amp?
As long as you have 2 ohm speakers in the front and 4 ohms in the rear
Good Video, but I pick my speaker because of fidelity.
What type of speaker fits into this truck? Specs please
Well, a 6.5" for starters
Why do my tweeters distort if I don't use external crossovers when I use my factory tweeter harness?
If your speakers came with crossovers, you have to always use them (unless going fully active with a DSP). Reason why you are getting distortion because your tweeters are trying to play frequencies they are not intended to play.
@ProvoBeastAudio I installed a component set so I'm gonna have to order new tweeters. It's only distorting on the passenger side door.
So are rears on a crew cab coaxial?
I made this comment about the 2015-2020 f150 sub wiring video where you wired up the f150 with the bigger screen, and this comment Isa copy past question about that video**
Finally a video actually explaining how to do this I'll probably end up still paying sombody buuut I may do it myself, so I will ask how would u use the line out converter for the wires u just rca If I remember right, how would I wire it for a monoblock amp, or would I get a line out converter with just 2 plug ins instead of 4? Thx
Hey bob, send me a message on facebook or instagram and I can point you in the right direction.
Bose amp 2006 3500 Silverado= what ohm aftermarket speaker needed…ty
I am in the process of replacing my blown speaker. I have a set of 2 way coaxial speakers and dont know were to tap into for full range of signal. I am not going to be using the factory tweeters. I looked at a factory wiring diagram and it looks like there is a split somewhere. Do you know where the split is??
Will any Rockford 6.5 speakers fit I happened to have a spare set laying around and was wondering how well they would fit these brackets?
Some rockfords are considered 6.75" and the basket may not fit the bracket. Doesn't hurt to give them a shot
I am looking for quality but affordable speakers to replace my broken ones in my truck. Any suggestions?
Skar audio is what I use it’s pretty good and not a horrible price
@ thanks
What size hole saw?
My engine doesn't work now
PUT ANTIFREEZE WHERE THE MOTOR OIL GOES, THAT WILL WORK
😂😂😂
Instructions unclear, my truck is now om the roof flipped over
Not helpful you didn't even show how speakers connect with the bracket.
you replaced junk with junk
No need for the hate, dislike the brand but it’s not your equipment so allow the gentleman to choose his stereo systems of choice
What’s wrong with fosgate ? I’m looking to put a system in my truck
