Kristin use the Elmer's All Purpose! It will hold up a Lot Better! It's Permanent. The School Glue is washable which is why your stencil was washing away when wet. The All Purpose should hold up a long time. Love your designs 😍
You are my new hero! Seriously there are so many people who cannot afford a cutting machine. I love figuring out ways to not buy expensive things. Great job!!
Super cool idea! If you used a transparent plastic, you could trace an image with the glue. Looking forward to giving this a try. Thanks so much for sharing 🤗
Really impressed with your style and sharing your creativity. Need extra stencils so definitely trying this. Have subscribed I am in Australia and durable stencils are pricey here too
I love this so much! Years ago, I made stencils with hot glue, but it wasn’t really successful. The lines were too thick and I realized it was costing quite a lot of $ in hot glue. This seems much better. Those stencils look like they could work great on a gelli plate as well. Thank you!
@@pak7417 I wonder the same! I made some new ones yesterday with thicker lines and more glue, so hopefully that one will hold up to more abuse, fingers crossed! xo
So clever, as you were creating the stencil all I could see in my head was a circle stencil, will be fun to try at some stage but not when I am packing up my studio to move lol.
Thank you Kristin, but sadly we are moving into a much smaller house when we sell this one, but on the flip side we will be build another house which will have my very own studio designed for me, I know I will be a very lucky girl when I’m in it
Wow thank you for shareing. I think this idea is awsome can also be done with hot glur but its bit more thicker stencil...but i did notice that after you used the gloss sprays on the stencil , it destroyed the stencil..i get that it was very thin to start with but useing the other sprays on it was fine..i guess there would be something in the gloss that would totally destroy the glue..or maybe coz the gloss sprays are just very sticky.. they certainly leave my journal pages abit tacky so they stick to the other page...maybe would help if you coated the stencil with some kind of a powder ..maybe the gloss spray will work better..i dont know hun. But still was awsome that you made these stencils with white school glue...i have normal cheap pva glue im definitely going to try this out later 😁 ..its totally mesmerising ent it when we think outside the box...hope all is well hun 😁🌻
Awe, thank you so much! YES, those gloss sprays are sticky! The glue stencils work better when they are thicker, but in general, I do think hot glue stencils hold up best. Thank you for your sweet words! ❤️
Gosh that's a good idea! I hate cutting the edges with a razor 'cos even with a special curvy end I never get it right... so I've been using... the finest tip I have of an adjustable soldering iron set to lowest temperature to melt the plastic out. It works but you have to sand the plastic afterwards. I like your solution. You=brilliant.
It has taken me years to follow you again. Here in a different setting. We both had blogs when I followed you last. I participated in your summer color happenings. I’m looking forward to seeing what Your doing now, hopefully it’s something as fun as years ago🤗
If ANY one comes up with an idea to seal the Elmers glue stencil so it doesn't become gooey please let me know. I was super excited about this idea for my 60 remote students. Well AFTER i bought glue for all 60 of these kids, and I should have tested it BEFORE buying all of that glue, my stencil became a mushy pile. I loved the idea, but now i will have to tell the kids its a one time deal!
@@larahooper2140 I'm so sorry Lara! I too found that they didn't last as long as I hoped. I tried it again using thicker glue lines (so it's a sturdier stencil) and storing them between 2 sheets of wax paper, but in the end, they didn't last as long as a hot glue stencil would. 💕
A glue stencil. So cool. Beautiful colors you used and I really love your pretty nail polish. How are you, Kristin? I need to catch up on your videos. 🐰🙂 Thank you for sharing.
So much fun, I have to try this, loved the results. I was wondering where do you find the Brea glitter, I am in Canada and walmart carries some of their inks but no glitter, I can not even find it on Amaazon , it is making me sad , can you help. TFS Hugs and Smiles
Hi Lori! I get mine at Hobby Lobby, but I noticed that they do have it at BreaReese.com, however it's currently out of stock. However, they do have a kit which contains the liquid glitter and a few inks on this link: www.breareese.com/product/watercolor-ink-kit/ xoxo
The camo stencil would held up if using a enamel spray paint. Because then enael or acrylic would become part of the glue holding it together. You were using school glue which is water soluble. But this was great showing what could be done on a budget.
Hm, I'm not sure, I'm sorry. The only thing I wonder is if the acetate sheet was not flexible, perhaps it would be hard to bend and peel the glue away from it? I do hope it works for you in the future!
Better is a subjective word. You can't get that kind of control and fine intricacies with a glue gun. They are two different things with different applications for needs. One is not "better" than the other.
I don't know why some crafters are so intent on putting annoying songs behind their video ... it's very distracting. If you want music to accompany a tutorial, then make it purely instrumental, soft, and unintrusive. My two cents worth.
I can see you have not done your homework. It can be done with less expense, and much less effort. I won't tell you how, do your homework and you can find out on your own.

You made my day with this glue stencil hack...its brilliant!
This is brilliant! I remember making fake fingernails in grade school with strips of dried Elmer's from the groove in my plastic school ruler.
Oh what a fun memory! :)
Absolutely beautiful ❤️. Thank you for sharing your fantastic talent ❤
Super cool !
Just found your site looking to try to make my own Stencil. 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 BRAVO great diy can't wait to try this out.

I have made with hot glue but never thought of using this! Fun!!!!
Thank you Meghan! I do think hot glue would be sturdier, but this was really fun! xo
Stunning, I will try too. Thank you!💓🌞😊

That's what I am wondering... if the dried glue that makes the stencil/mask would hold up to acrylic paint over and over.

Hot glue could be a sturdier result, Imma go try... Thanks for planting the idea!

Elmer's Glue All might work better; it is not as water soluble when dry. Washable school glue breaks down when dry.
That was fun! I think that green tag might need some pink 😉 💕

4 years later...how long do you let glue dry? Thanks.

But this was great showing what could be done on a budget.
What a great idea, thank you!
How do you keep the glue from pooling? Tried 2 different glues and before it dries the glue pools and breaks all the loops.
Hi! It really can be a challenge, but you can try putting the glue in a smaller squeeze bottle so that less comes out at a time :)
How long for it to dry?
I wonder if this could be reinforced some way?
Today (2 years later) stencils can be close to $20 for the full sized ones! I wonder how long the drying time is. Probably not too bad. Thank you!
You're so right - and as I recall, it takes just a few hours to dry although I left them overnight just in case :)
Thank you
Thank you Judy!
I tried this but used acetate sheet. Once the glue dried I couldn’t remove the stencil. Any clues?
Hm, I'm not sure, I'm sorry. The only thing I wonder is if the acetate sheet was not flexible, perhaps it would be hard to bend and peel the glue away from it? I do hope it works for you in the future!
Tried this but the glue just won’t dry! Is there a secret?
So basically just let it dry and have fun? 🙂

its better to use a glue gun for stenciling.
