Thank you for all the information. I am teaching 2 nature study classes at a co op this fall semester. The age groups are 3rd to 6th graders and 6th to 12th graders. My issue is that there isn't much there at the co op to study. I plan to bring chickens one day and do a bird study, goats one day for a mammal study. I'm thinking about doing sprouts one week. However I have ten weeks of class, one day a week, and I'm not sure what to do after those 3 subjects? I am on a limited budget as well. Should I purchase each one a spiral sketchbook and do a study then have them sketch and write information down the last 15 minutes of class? I have done studies at home with my kids and did fine, but not quite sure it will work for a class format. Anything would help. I plan to check out the website you mentioned
Amazon happens to have a ten pack of spiral kraft notebooks on special for Prime day at a great price. Do you have access to anywhere outside? You could have them look around for things to focus in on in the immediate area. I also would recommend Raising Up Wild Things. She has really affordable PDF downloads for different types of nature studies (each of the seasons, pond study, butterflies, bees, etc) and great deals on bundles. They include tons of great info and activities that would work in a co op setting
I LOVE your 3 question!! They give purpose and direction to the nature study.
Thank you so much!
