My 7th grader and I also were not fans of Shormann Pre Algebra, after about 6 weeks we changed to Mr D Math. It is wonderful. It is online, but his voice is not dry- he seems to enjoy math! Ha! It also has printable work, quizzes, and chapter tests. We highly recommend for middle/upper level math!

My son is using Shormann this year. He struggled the first two lessons, but now we have a system. 1. He prints the rules and definitions. 2. He does the flashcards 3. He watches lecture and takes notes. 4. Does the practice problems. 5. He prints the solutions for future reference. 6. After I determine his notes are well done I print the textbook for that lesson. Then he refers back to these if he needs to reference a previous lesson, rather than having to change the screen. So far so good, but I do wonder about additional practice when he gets to a concept that requires additional practice. Because I do feel like it goes pretty fast.

I'm a little behind, but do you have a video or more detailed explanation of what your difficulties were with Shormann. We just started my oldest on Shormann PreAlgebra after several TH-cam homeschooler recs and now you have me a little worried. So far, it's going well, but it sounds like your issues were with the higher-level classes.

I agree that having an actual Math textbook and Solution manual is important for Math, but also a visual component that teaches how to work thru the problems is too. I don't think my daughter would like Shoreman Math.

I love your videos! I have my son in Shormann Algebra I this year but I wasn’t (and still am not) settled in that decision. I needed to make a decision before the school year started so I did. What made me lean toward Shormann in the end was getting three credits in two years. My question for you is if you had to do it over would you have done Shormann at all? Is it really so important not to have a separate Geometry year? Before becoming a SAHM I was an electrical engineer so I’m not afraid of math. I love it actually but I’ve got 4 kiddos and needed some things off my plate. Lastly, this son who is my eldest is only in 6th grade so I’m not in a rush either. He’s just an extremely bright kid. Thanks!

How many weeks were each course? When I called the Foundations course was said to be 39-weeks? Recommended 3-5 days ax week for an hour? Seemed like a lot when your video says you did 20 mins a couple days a week? Could you break down each course how many weeks and how long to do each day? Roughly. Not sure if I need to account for a semester or full year. We year round from July-June. Thank you.

Very nice tour! I was watching someone the other day, and she said, "Don't be upset if you can't have a craft room like they display on TH-cam." The reason is that is set up a lot of times to look good. That was very encouraging to me. I have slanted ceilings, which is a problematic issue in my room. You have given me, so many ideas for a different way to look at storage. I'm trying to get my things, my sister's things and 2 of my friends things together so I will have some idea where anything is. It's very overwhelming to me. But I will get there, and you have some great ideas; I didn't think of. Thank you for doing your craft room tour, it's much more realistic than some of the others I have watched.

I spent about an hour each week deciding which books, videos and activities I would have my teens do. Then they worked on those things I assigned fairly independently. There are a lot of options of things you can have your student do but once you’ve made a decision on what to do or skip your teen should be able to do most of it on their own. The cooking assignments/labs you need to review in advance to make sure you have ingredients on hand. And to make the most of those cooking projects I would review with your teen what chem concept they were demonstrating with it

Thank you so much for putting out this content! This may be a little late of a comment, but I have been watching your channel for a while and I have been very impressed with your choice for a German curriculum. I am a German-American dual citizen. I grew up in Germany and completed my bachelor's degree there. I moved to the US in 2012 and am now homeschooling my 4 children. You are the first person I have watched that uses a German curriculum similar to what I am using (brought out by a German publisher). I really tried to find something for the elementary grades that was made for homeschool and that would work for us, but what's out there really isn't that great. I thought it was just me being super critical since I am a native speaker, but you must have had similar experiences with American made German curriculum. I tried a few different German publishers and settled on Hueber for the elementary grades, as they are the only German publisher of a German as a second language curriculum I could find that takes into account the fact that children first need to be alphabetized in their mother tongue and can't do a ton of writing in a foreign language in the early grades. A lot of the other German made curricula for the elementary grades - which are far and few between to begin with - had a lot of writing in them (Klett & Cornelsen), but this one has games, audios and even some videos - all for just $20 or so for the interactive e-book that comes with the audios & videos! (I also order the physical textbooks and workbooks through my charter using Abe Books and use the interactive version as my teacher's version) We first used "Jana und Dino", and have recently moved on to "Paul, Lisa & Co", which is basically a continuation of the same method. Can highly recommend! PS: To all the bilingual parents out there - do yourselves a favor and raise your children bilingual from the start so as to avoid the whole foreign language dilemma I got myself into ;-).

Ohhhh!! SUCH good info! Thank you! I'm a veteran homeschool mom to a senior and two freshmen (freshmans?) lol, but I am SO glad I came across your video (I googled "best homeschool curriculum for visual learners" and this video came up!). I was up the creek without a paddle 1/2 and hour ago. I went to buy the curriculum I had long ago decided upon and realized its not a good fit after all. God must've guided the algorithms because I needed to see your video! I've either done, or heard of, most of these curricula, but I needed to hear your words on the rigor of Apologia Biology and see all the books laid out and flipped through while hearing your daily/weekly approach. And be reminded that IEW is the bomb! Even though I'm a veteran, my twins are so different than my senior, I might as well be a newbie. I'm SO excited to discover Seven Sisters and Guest Hollows!
