      Similar to you: Sigma 16mm 1.4, Sigma 30mm 1.4, Sony 50mm 1.8. I'll prb swap the 50 for the 85 at some point, very happy with it though.

      that1cameraguy 30mm and the 85mm for sure. i used to own the 60mm 2.8 which was sharp equivalent to a 92mm but it was a focal length that was weird to handle plus subject isolation wasnt that great. At night 2.8 was hard to handle cranking iso to 1500

    Thank you for still making videos about/for Sony A6000 despite the availability of so many new high-end Sony Mirrorless cameras in the market e.i A7iii, A9, A7rii... I have a Sony A6000 right now (i got thru installment), although I only have the kitlens, watching your videos about lenses that are good for A6000 made me happy - knowing that the capability of this camera can be extended. Right now I can't afford any of the lenses you mentioned, it will probably take me half a year to save money to just buy one prime lens. I just hope my photos that I submitted in stock sites will sell so I can buy either the Sigma 30 f1.4 or the 50 f1.8 Oss.

      The native Sony 50 f 1.8 is my sharpest. Not too rare to find used at fair prices. Most people like an 85 mm as a portrait lens but the 50 is more versatile. It can search sometimes in auto focus and I give up and go manual. With peaking I can get razor

    i’ve been using the a6000 for about three years. The first thing Idid was sell the kit 16-50. I just couldn’t get sharp focus. I bought Sony’s 50/1.8 and love it but many of my shots are indoors and I’d have to knock out a wall to get back far enough. I wanted something wider. The Sony 28/f2.0 was almost the same price as Sigma and far smaller/lighter. I always do handheld so size does matter. My best do it all lense is the 18-105 f 4 OSS. that’s wonderful for shots with good lighting and video outdoors. Your videos are my favorite.

    The budget option is the Sigma Art Trinity: 19mm, 30mm and 60mm f2.8. Had the second, it was really great for the price and the IQ wasn’t bad either.

    Hey man, love your videos, just wanted to add something. I hear a lot of youtubers refer to “upgrading” to a full frame. A full frame is not necessarily an upgrade. Yes specs wise it’s an upgrade but a lot of people actually prefer apsc cameras. I know a lot of professionals who use m43 cameras even. Just saying but keep up the awesome videos!

    Sigma are apparently releasing another Contemporary lens for Sony APSC later this year... It's likely to be a 60mm 1.4, which should be absolutely killer!

  • @kingweddingmedia
    @kingweddingmedia 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Agree with the 16mm sigma - it’s simply an awesome lens. I have the a6000, and would say the 35mm Sony trumps the 30mm sigma because of the stabilisation. My third lens would have to be a zoom for versatility, for me, the f4 70-200mm is an absolute beast on the a6000, great for portraits, outdoor sports, optical steady shot so handheld video is fine enough, and it’s impressively sharp wide open - my favourite lens! If I had to pick a third prime, I’d probably say the 85mm but no oss means it’s not great for video!

    Just missing the 16mm Sigma f1.4 from my kit which I plan on getting when there's another sale. Shot with the A6000 and A6500 for a while with the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and Sony 85mm F1.8 and they're all workable. I've stopped using the Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS as I found with my style the 30mm apsc works for 90% of my work.

    As a compulsory Nikon user, I love my 35mm f1.8. If and when I get to switch camera systems, I think I'll buy the 35mm f1.8 just because it's very "general purpose" of a lens. Lol. I might consider the Sigma 30mm f1.4, though. That image quality is a legend.

  • @willbrink
    @willbrink 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I settled on the Sony 35 1.8 due it's size. I think that is overlooked by many reviewers. I got the compact Sony APC because I wanted a compact system the I can travel with, drop in a bag, etc. Putting a larger lens on it, makes little sens to me. The Sony is good low light, clear, has OSS, and very small, so win win. That and the 18-135 rounds out my needs and that's what I use 95% of the time.

    Damn that Sigma 16mm and Sony 85mm are both definitely on my wishlist now! I just got an a6000 a couple of months ago with the 55-210 kit lens. Wound up getting the Sony 30mm macro (which I love) and the 16-50 kit lens real cheap. I like the idea of testing out the 2 zoom kit lenses to figure out where I like to shoot. That being said, I did back the Kalman 28mm along with the 50mm. The price for both was too great to pass up.

    I have had my 6000 for about a week now, and I absolutely love it! The primary lens I have it paired with is the Sony FE 50mm 1.8, and it does a fantastic job. I have been looking at the 85mm that you have in this video, but the other 2 lenses intrigue me too. Especially that 16mm.

    I went for the Rokinon 12mm 2.0, Sigma 19mm 2.8, Sony 35mm 1.8 and the Sony 50mm 1.8 for my a6000. Cheap, fairly good quality optics and covers most situations.

  • @darkolukac9413

    I have Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS and also sigma 30mm 1.4 - for some reason I prefer Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS for fashion shoots/potraits and I use sigma 30mm for architecture and also for shooting food and objects - maybe I will grab the 16mm one as well altho if you need only one lens I would go for the Sigma 30mm cause its so diverse - you can shoot everything with that lens from architecture,fashion and also food/objects.

  • @rickymcc8624
    @rickymcc8624 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi like your thinking.
    I'm new to Sony and APS-C bought the A6500 3 months ago to travel light. Still have and use Nikon for full frame quality with 10+ lenses but impressed with what I can do with Sony kit. I too like primes and by happy coincidence also bought that trio. In addition I'm using the manual Samyang 12mm f2 for wider landscapes.
    I have even started to think the 'unthinkable' and I'm evaluating if selling my N kit for FF Sony makes sense. It's the direction of travel, but a full switch to pro grade Sony optics across the focal range will cost thousands ££££ (I'm a Brit) in part exchange. Benefits currently modest for hi-end sports/wildlife use but I'm particularly impressed with eye focus on Sony for portraits. Will be interesting to see what Nikon eventually do in mirrorless to counter Sony.

    My three favorite lenses for a crop sensor (to shoot models) are the 30mm f/1.4 Sigma, 50mm f/1.8 Sony OSS and the FE 85mm Sony f/1.8... I don;t go too wide shooting models but when I need wide I like WIDE! the Rokinon 12mm f/2.0

    I sold my Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 as it's not a focal length I use often but did pick up the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 as I dont mind manual focus. Big difference in price, I paid £180 new for my Samyang.
    My prime collection for apsc are
    7 artisans 7.5mm f/2.8 fisheye
    Samyang 12mm f/2
    Sigma 30mm f/1.4
    Sony e 50mm f/1.8
    Samyang 85mm f/1.4
    Plus I have several vintage lenses I can throw on there which give me a completely different look and feel such as my Minolta Rokkor PF 58mm f/1.4 and Helios 58mm f/2.

    Firstly, Great Video! 2nd, here's a more accurate APS-C conversion for FF Equivalent, Sigma 16mm/F1.4(24mm/F2.1), Sigma 30mm/F1.4(45mm/F2.1), and Sony 85mm/F1.8(127.5mm/F2.7). Focal length and aperture are impacted by the crop sensor.

  • @richardpcrowe
    @richardpcrowe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't shoot video or vblog and I am not a great fan of wide angle lenses. I like longer lenses especially for portraits. I have a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and an MC-11 adapter. I love the focal length but, the lens is not a contemporary version and therefore doesn't have seamless compatibility with the MC-1 and my A6500. I am selling this version and getting a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 with a Sony mount. At first I was excited over the 56mm Sigma f/1.4 for portraits until I realized that I really consider the long end of my Canon 17-55mm a bit short for head and shoulders. I like my 85mm f/1.8 Canon for portraits even with my APSC Cnon DSLR cameras. I am going to see if I can get eye AF to work with my MC-11 and A6500. If I can, this will be my go-to portrait lens. If not, I will think of the 85mm f/1.8 Sony "OR" sell my Canon f/1.8 and get a Sigma 85mm f/1.4 ART lens with Canon mountif that works well with the MC-11 and A6500...

    I have the 2 sigma lenses, But I'd rather go with the 50 1.8 OSS, I'm not that of a tele-photo guy. But I need a zoom lens ... a constant 2.8 or faster. I need it to be used with the a6500 on a gimbal with the max payload of 1.6KG. I wish sigma would make their 18-35 1.8 into a smaller sony-e version. or just a 16-50 2.8 zoom .. please .. someone .. we need a lens like that for APS-C

    • @jackodon74
      @jackodon74 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well Sony clearly do not care about consumers having a faster 2.8 zoom or they would of released one about 5 years ago. I for one got sucked into the Sony hype an got an A7 but i don't even use it now since buying the Fuji XT20 and the F2.8-f4 zoom which batters any of the Sony APSC zooms available. Sony have lost many customers due to the poor zoom lens choice on the APSC. You can't even get a 50-200 F4 zoom never mind a 16-55 F2.8. It's now wonder they where giving away the A6300 and 6500 on big cashbacks this summer.

    If I was on a budget, sigma 16mm 1.4, Samyang 35mm 2.8, and 50mm FE 1.8.
    But If I needed af in video, I’d prob spend more and still get that same sigma, 35mm Sony 1.8, and a toss up between the 55mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8
    You did have 👌🏽choices though.

    Started with the kit lens on the NEX3N (16-50) then added an A6000. Got another kit lens with that and added Sony FE 50mm. Next choice was the Sigma 16mm and it is very nice.. Also got the 55-210mm for price and reach. Have added since then the 18-105 Zoom (and find the Clear Image very useful on that and the kit lens) and , finally, the Sony 35mm for extra light and lightweight inconspicuous street photos and travel. I was considering the 6500 and the 7-3 but couldn't find a 7-3 at the time and didn't want to wait,, so opted for the 6500 to take on a Euro trip. Now I find myself with 3 cameras and use all of them depending on what I'm trying to accomplish that day. The NEX3N is small, lightweight and not too risky an expense to just throw into a pocket or bag to take with when you don't want to stand out in a crowd. The 6000 is a little larger and has a viewfinder which I much prefer outdoors while the 6500 has several of its own advantages. What I really like is that the lenses I have are very useable on all of them. Sony is doing a pretty good job ! Next camera (perhaps a year or so away) will be the full frame A7-3.

      Way to go! That is how they got you into their system.
      Longterm you spent more money then you would have had, by directly buying the full frame. These bastards.
      First: take a wiff. Then, here is a free joint. Then... you know the story.

    In your opinion which prime lens is better for portrait at all the time and every location ? Sigma 30mm 1.4 or Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS ?

    • @mmcandy26
      @mmcandy26 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely the 50mm native lens. The lens truly brings your subject to life. I would recommend the 30mm if you wanted a wider shot, more of the background included, or want to shoot portrait shots that include more than 1 person.

    I'd probably go with the Sigma 16mm 1.4, 24mm 1.8 (if only it was stabilized), and the 55mm 1.8 Zeiss. That'd be my ideal trio I think. Maybe toss in the Sigma 30mm 1.4 since it's cheap as an extra.

    I just got the FE 85 F1.8 after trying an 85mm f1.4 manual lens and finding I did not use it because of the time it takes me to get it focused and because I shoot mostly events where there is lots of movement; school and extracurricular activities and family/friends birthdays.

    I use mine primarily for video on my a6000 and I got the FE28mm F2 , the E 50mm f1.8 , and the FE 85mm f1.8. I feel like the fe 28 is wide enough for what i need it and then the 50mm is my mid range and for telephoto i use the 85.

    Lenses, lenses, it's never enough. :) I want to learn more about the features of the camera and techniques on how to use them. The other day I played around with the DRO and HDR features. I accidentally left it on DRO Lv5 and shot some portraits the next day at a car show. To my surprise, the photos turned out so good some friends asked if I bought a new camera.
    I don't remember if you did a video on these features. If you haven't, maybe make one so some of us can learn a thing or two?

Also my 3rd choice would be the upcoming sigma 56mm 1.4. Thanks for the review bro

    I’d be interested in hearing your low and mid budget recommendations. Moving from Nikon to Sony e mount aps c and trying to choose where to start. I’d also be interested in your thoughts on 3 lens setup that would include a zoom option. I mainly shoot family and some travel/landscape and have a low to mid budget. Thanks for the great work so far!

    I have the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and the Sony 85mm f/1.8 but, right now I an struggling along with the Sony 16mm f/2.8 and Sigma 19mm f/2.8 lenses for my wide angle options. Neither of these lenses really ring my chimes!
    I have avoided the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 because of its size and weight but, I think that I may just dump the 16mm and 19mm lenses that I already own and opt for the Sigma 16mm f/1.4.
    I also have a Sony 50mm f/1.8 OSS lens and the Samyang 12mm f/2.0...
    I shoot with a pair of APSC cameras: A6400 and A6500...

    I'm looking at the sony 35mm oss because I'm a bit new at photography so oss might be quite useful for me. The Sigma 30mm looks awesome though. It's got me conflicted because it's cheaper and seems better but there's no stabilization in the sony a6000 I picked up. I'm guessing either will get me nice shots with a narrow depth of field compared to the kit lens tho

    Hi, I have a question that maybe nobody talked about yet. When using the Sony FE 85mm in a crop sensor like the Sony a6000, you loose pixels when printing out the photos, or not? I wonder if I'm right, since this lens will be a 127mm equivalent in a crop sensor, which means that the image is already being cropped, so loosing some pixels as a result. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks and greetings from Argentina!!

    Hi. I am looking at wide angle lenses for my Sony a6000. I am going on a trip soon and want to have a lens that can take waterfalls and northern lights. I was wondering what your thoughts are on this lens or suggestion on other wide angle lens for a beginner like myself. How do you think the kit lens 16-50 mm, F3.5-5.6 hold?

    Interesting video, I just wonder why everyone and you say about lowlight since most of photography (not videos) are shot at golden hours and day time! Portrait is a niche for some, so is wedding. But most humans are shooting landscapes, street, family, sports, vacations and all of them do not require wide open, shallow depth. Yet the color, sharpness are key for everybody. What do you think?
