The WiFi setting has nothing to do with connecting to a home WiFi.
There is a built-in WiFi transmitter which is turned on by your phones Bluetooth and then if correctly set up will Auto link to your phone and allow you to view and download to your phone.
So if around 20ft of the camera there is no need to connect a cable or to remove the micro SD card.
Of cause this will use up more battery.
