  • Mount Ikoma is on the border between Osaka and Nara prefectures, and its peak is 642m above sea level. Near the top of the mountain is the Ikomasanjō Amusement Park, where you can overlook Osaka and Nara. The amusement park is closed in winter, but you can walk through it. The mountaintop is also lined with TV and FM broadcast antennas.
The Ikoma Cable Line opened between Toriimae and Hōzanji on August 29, 1918, with the main purpose of transporting visitors to the Hōzanji. It was Japan's first funicular. On December 30, 1926, Hōzanji Line 2 opened, and on March 27, 1927, the Sanjō Line between Hōzanji and Ikoma Sanjō opened, giving the Ikoma Cable Line its current form.
Today, the cable line is owned and operated by Kintetsu Railway Co., Ltd., and Toriimae Station is adjacent to Kintetsu Ikoma Station, from where it connects with other lines.
This video was taken on January 5, 2023 from 1200 to 1246.
When I asked the station staff if the Hōzanji Line of the Ikoma Cable Line runs both Lines 1 and 2 at the same time, it was only when there were a lot of passengers, such as during the first three days of the year, and usually only Line 1 would run. was the answer. On the day I took the video, I was lucky that Line 2 was in operation, which is rare.

That’s way too steep to be comfortable :) Also what the hell is that sorcery at 12:02? How did the carriage get to the left track?

The reason is that the cable is on the left side.
      Thank you for your comment.

I have an idea. The wheel on the left is flanged normally, the right one might resemble more a drum, so it can glide across the tracks. The cable pulls it to one side.
