I am Colombian and I can say the following: 1. The haciendas mechanic is spot on of the Colombian culture. Even today, the concept of the Hacienda or Finca being a rural state you own to retreat to the countryside is what we call the "Colombian dream". 2. I cannot identify the music by name, but it sounds like traditional Colombian Aristocrat Ballroom music of the era. It souund really Colombian. 3. The Comandante General unit is also spot on. Back during the Liberation war (Called the "Campaña Admirable") Bolivar rellied heavily in His field Marshals, generals and Lieutenants and most of them became National Heroes as big as Bolivar in Colombia and Venezuela. So, Along with Bolivar, Santander, Marshall Sucre, Urdaneta, Paez, General Rondon, Anzoategui, Miranda and others we consider them as our "Forefathers" if you will. 4. The unic unit is kind of funny. I think they were aiming for the LANCERO ("Spearmans"). The Lanceros are mythical figures of the liberation campaing. You see, They where peasants from ther Llanos region (That is why the unit is called "Llaneros", but not all llaneros where fighters) that where brave mounted Spearmans and fought without saddles on big horses and some say they fought even naked on very cold weather. They where basically a Levy mounted unit that proved to be incredible effective because of their thoughtness and bravery. The Legend/History says that 15 Lanceros (commanded by general Juan José Rondon) single handledly turned around the most Decisive battle fo the campaing (The battle of Vargas Swamp), with a glorious charge that broke the Spanish infantry and allowed the Main Bolivar's Army to regroup. The llanos region is also the birthplace of a very authentic folcloric music very traditional both in Colombia an Venezuela (The llanos region is Shared between both "Brother Countries", as we called ourserves) so they mixed both things together and we got a funny "Musical mounted warrior" armed with a guitar, lol (that is not a guitar tho, Is a Cuatro, a traditional Llanero instrument). But to clarify, this unit is based on the Lancero, whe didn't fight the independence war with guitars lol. (As a final fun fact: Colombian Soldiers are still called "Lanceros" to this day)
I'm from Venezuela and this game seems like a class of history but funny. I've study all of this and fun fact, I'm from Los Llanos, specifically where Paez was from. I agree with you that it's supposed to be "Lanceros", but "Llaneros" is funny to hear from non Spanish speakers.
Keeping in theme with other newer civs, that would've been a good penalty to give them to try and slow down their expansion because as is, this civ seems S+ tier for domination; the +1 movement to EVERY unit allows you to break the way the game's played by itself.
That should be apply to so many civs. Example is portugal (if it gets brought into the game) cities should lose loyalty -10 out of a 100 if on a different contients ( this could really implied to any western civ to reflect losing colonies throughout the time because of loyalty)
I literally just finished my Spanish and Latin America History class and wrote my final on Simon Bolivar’s military campaigns, so this is such an exciting Civ reveal for me!
We are very flexible at giving citizenry. Say, are you Paraguayan? (they get it auto as a good will for the triple alliance war) or Latino? (Live 2 years and you are good, just prove that you are here) or perhaps a but far away? (same as latino but is 4 years)
Something I want to point out is that each of the Comandantes Generales is actually a real historical figure that fought alongside the Ejercito Patriota for gran Colombia. In the video we see José Antonio Páez, Gregor Macgregor (he was Scottish), Antonio Nariño and Rafael Urdaneta. I am interesting in seeing how many of them will exist, because the bonuses of +4 strenght are apparently for ever so spaming Comandantes Generales could become a source of infinite source of strenght. Something else. This means that great Generals and Comandantes Generales do not mix, so there must be a separate list of them for purchase or they only appear with the ability, in which case, there will only appear (¿8?)
This guy is so OP, he gets way too many bonuses that allow him to be aggressive. Early wars would be so easy with a free great general, extra movement and the ability to attack after promotions, all of that before anyone even has walls. Mid game would also be super easy with his unit, 89 strength with 6 movement is not okay. Late game will already be over because you would already be too powerful at that point.

I feel the same way, he is many civs bonus but the entire game. He gets an extra trade route - Cree, Persia. Better movement- better than any special condition war bonus - Scotland, Persia and doesn't require a building like Mongolia or Dido is better /equal to many unique units with movement bonuses, Nubia etc. I think he should be nerfed.
Maybe? I suspect he'll just be really strong. The unique Cavalry is good, and will make for some really strong end game pushes, but it comes out far too late to be really make or break. I'm not 100% sure when the Hacienda arrives, but I suspect its late Ren, early Industrial era. Again, good, but its not going to make or break anything. That being said, Gran Colombia is really well set up for Classical and Medieval era rushes with their free, unique general. We'll have to see. Like PotatoMcWhiskey, I think they'll be super solid overall. In the hands of a good player who is able to optimize the value of the free movement and extra turns saved from promotions? @@reporogue9135 I can’t imagine Hacienda showing up later than Australia’s UI, which is the clear comparison here. With that said, scouting, builder and settlers all getting the bonus from turn 1, and the extra movement and promote+action also factoring in, I can definitely see Bolivar having the early muscle to snowball with generic units. Remember, every turn counts, a settler landing a turn earlier is a turn earlier it produces something. Builders can climb hills and drop a mine in the same turn. These sorts of tiny benefits add up and are why Persia is as strong as it is, and Gran Colombia has the bonus when it counts the most - the very earliest turns. Joropo (the genre of the Llaneros) weren't quite relevant in the country until one of our singers won a Grammy (a Latin one, if I reckon). Really good video, especially given how quickly you put it together. Thanks for talking about how t his applies to multi-player. I too am terrified at the thought of encountering this civ early in the game.
Wow. Love it! Agree with you, +1 movement for any unit is massive. Apparently, the Hacienda unlocks only at Mercantilism ( civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Hacienda_(Civ6) ), so it's not just the "buffs" to its yields that happen super late (Replaceable Parts & Rapid Deployment). Still, it all sounds very, very strong! Can't wait to see you play around with this civ!! :D
Not sure if Gran Colombia will be the best domination civ. It is definitely powerful for that victory. With Cyrus, his movement bonuses only apply with surprise wars. And I’m not sure how powerful it is by default.
I was halfway through his biography (Bolívar: American Liberator by Marie Arana, great book!) when I heard Gran Colombia was being added & I am so hyped-it’s almost perfectly themed and I cant wait to use Páez and his llaneros!
@@PotatoMcWhiskey You realise that +1 movement counts for embarked units too right? That's the real value of the Great Lighthouse if you ask me. Builders, Apostles, Naval Landings, it makes everything you do around the coast run so much smoother and faster, especially early game.
Thanks for another great breakdown! Excited to play these new civs. I think the Maya will help me do a better job of planning, since I’ll only have a limited area to work with. Then I think I’ll take Gran Colombia on a domination run. Thanks again; I’ve really looked forward to your content while stuck at home in isolation.
Good catch on the Comandante General stacking with normal Generals. I completely missed that when I watched the video, and that's a pretty big deal. Overall, great analysis, as always. :)
I would love to see a dual map between Simon Bolivar and Alexander the Great! Simon thinks he's going to be a heavy military-orientated civ from my first take.
Not to be overlooked...promoting Apostles without giving up any of their movement will be a slight advantage to Religious victories. Also, the Pilgrim promotion becomes even more attractive when the closest Natural Wonder is *just* a bit out of the way.
This Civ seems so exciting to play. You can easily surprise other Civs with you fast military movement or you can also bait other Civs to get damaged by your General. Such interesting srats one can play with this Civ. So happy to see the Frontier Pass!
Imagine stacking regular great generals + Simon's UU. If you could get the first two GG's + hit the medieval unit early, that's: +10 to classical units from the GG Possibly +8 from the UU +4 for oligarchy That's +22 base combat strength. More than enough to one shot any archer/spearman/possibly heavy chariot, and two shot any enemy swordsman/x bowman/pikeman. Your swordsmen would be unstoppable (nearly) until gunpowder units, and even then would still be viable.

In civ there are fair amount of boosts which gives incentive towards following the historical path (like Persia being disloyal, Alexander being a conquer, etc). i think it would be nice if all civs get a specific world wonder, natural wonder, luxury or resource boost. I just go for any world wonder that's good, natural wonder that gives great yeilds, any new luxury, etc. It would be nice if there was extra incentive to fight for these.

I haven't been this excited for a new civ in a long time! Also Simón Bolívar has been the most popular Modded civ for the past three games! Everyone is excited bc he always seemed like such a fantasy pick for a new civ!
Great vid. You forgot to mention that the movement bonus also means that siege units can move and shoot by default. Which is super powerful all the way from catapults to bombards
I'm from Venezuela, and I'm very happy to say that the level of detail from this faction is amazing. They even brought the Llaneros, which were Bolivar's army of farmers and freemen, I hope they sing some 'Joropo' while moving hahah
I think a potential nerf for this civ we will see later down the line (because let's be real they sound really strong) will be some aspect of their unique unit. It's strength for a cavalry replacement just seems insane to me.
Just think how much of a boost the Monumentality Golden Age dedication gives to your builders. He's got half of that all the time (5 movement builders when he has the dedication!). He can move into woods, rainforest, or a hill and chop or place a mine on the same turn. Like Potato said, that little extra speed in production and growth will really add up over time.
Simon Bolivar was a congress recruit in Sid Meier's Colonization. He was the best because he instantly gave you +20% rebel bonus so you could declare independence faster.
He feels absurdly broken. Because of the movement, he gets everything faster. Because of the production, he gets everything faster. Because of his unique units, he gets your cities and your production faster. Like...
Hi Potato! Spanish follower in here. So if you are struggling with the names of this civ: Simon Bolivar is not actually pronounced in english, it would be something like... "Seemon" (the mon pronounced like the one in Pokemon, emphasaizing the "o"). The double L in spanish is more or less pronounced like the english "y" in "yeah", and the R is soft so it would be something like "yanero". This civ looks soososososo cool and I'm dying to play them already!!! Thanks for the in depth video😊
This civ appears almost overpowered for domination victory. A better version of cavalry (a unit that figures in a lot of domination victories) that comes with combat bonuses plus double great general combat boosts plus the movement speed bonus across-the-board (think of your bombards moving into position that much faster): it all just ties into a hugely powerful industrial era push.
That moving after promoting will also make units the Civ version of dodge tanks. Think about it! You can tank a hit on the enemy turn, promote heal, and then get out of dodge! It will be INFURIATING to verse in multiplayer!
Theres a podcast called "The Revolutions Podcast" which focuses on revolutions and the spanish american break away is part of it. In fact, Simon Bolivar is the red thread of the Spanish American wars of independence. Highly recommended to any history buffs out there!
I can really see how Gran Colombia can be one of the most powerful civs out there. I cannot wait to have tons of units running around the map and constantly beating the ai to settle spots. Definitely agree with your A tier rating but honestly, I can see if they become S tier after some gameplay.
Gran Colombia is going to be an incredibly powerful domination civ thanks to the unique Great Generals and Cavalry alone, but the extra movement and ability to promote and move on the same turn put them over the top. And that's without factoring in Haciendas, which are super strong on their own.
That move is huge. Over the course of say the first 20 turns that starting scout will blow past all the neighbours scouts and if you get a second out early you’ll see the whole damn world.
Bonus movement in ANY turn based strategy game is insane. Getting this bonus on just one unit type can be game changing, but on a whole army? This is nuts.
I just won w this Civ - they are INSANELY OP. Adjacency bonus PER UNIT, no upgrade resource costs, extra movement, the Generals AND regular Generals, the promotion bonus, etc etc etc. I had 90ish Combat Strength, which is the same as MODERN ARMOUR. Unreal
Not sure how impactful this could be, but one thing I noticed about the movement/promotion ability is that in a religious game, your apostles come online quicker. Not a huge change but like you mentioned it could be one of those small bonuses that over the course of a game adds up to something significant.

Habilidad: Los terrenos de aluvión no se inundan mas!!!
Congrats on 100k! You deserve it.
About the new civ, it looks a little bit overpowered though.
I feel like the llanero should have had some kind of culture bonus as well... They feel too domination victory biased. I thought Gran Colombia would've had a bit of culture sprinkled in. Whatever; they seem really cool.
Oh wait, my heart is gone. I just wanted to fix my grammar. Why does that happen?
They were busy murdering people to have culture.
@@dillguy9 because you could have edited your comment to say something racist, homophobic, etc. and then it would look like potato hearted your offensive statement. it's to protect content creators my dude
@@ElliotGardelliUchiha Ah makes sense. I forgot the "had" in the original comment and it bothered me
@@jaredouimette1 Tell that to the Hell Legion, as the Llaneros in the Patriota Army were the likes of "showing off" (like in Battle of Queseras del Medio). Culturally we are more relevant from sanjuanero, carranga (70's), cumbia and other genres. Joropo (the genre of the Llaneros) weren't quite relevant in the country until one of our singers won a Grammy (a Latin one, if I reckon). Venezuela, in the other hand, they breath, taste, feel and hear Joropo as their main genre (after all, at least a third of the country is plains or Llanos, Colombia have their quota there too).

Been waiting for this all week!
Damn that +1 movement is broken
I think it's only to military units because of the additional text and they just didn't catch the wording. Hopefully that's what they mean. Was the Settler when moving have an extra movement? I couldn't tell
@@maxe159 Nope. If you look at the settler at 1:45, you will see that it has three movement points.
It will surely get patched to military units only. +1 settlers is too much of an advantadge early on.
@@clemenx Maybe only military units will get +1 movement. But it's still OP even if civilian units don't get it anymore.
@@williamtheconqueror7807 See that's what i asked i couldn't tell from settler cause i hardly pay attention to that for them
I posted on the original video, that your analysis is what I am actually waiting for, Sir Potatoe! :D
Thank you for the quick delivery! ;)
"Uhh looks kinda OP. Devs?"
Spain, circa 1825
Simon u stole that from the original video lol
@@gabrielxiong8710 Bolivar wasnt even alive by 1852 & Gran Colombia already dissolved lol
@@gabrielxiong8710 lol yes, it was too good not to repost. I wasnt expecting a heart though
I‘m convinced they will patch this civ pretty soon. Those boni seem damn powerful and potentially game breaking!!!
I was halfway through his biography (Bolívar: American Liberator by Marie Arana, great book!) when I heard Gran Colombia was being added & I am so hyped-it’s almost perfectly themed and I cant wait to use Páez and his llaneros!
Glad I can hear the video a little bit more this time. Great video!
Just watched a couple old videos, they were so helpful I went through and liked a bunch of your videos. Thank you for being so helpful!
Hey potato im new to civ and you have taught me so much! Looking forward to watching your frontier pass videos.
Look at animation for "Accepting friendship" at 4:36 its a copy-paste of Pedro II's friendship acceptance
Some of them are likely placeholders.
“+1 movement is actually really powerful” man you are just pouring salt in the wound for the Great Lighthouse fans after that wonder tier list.
+1 Movement on boats is not really powerful, +1 movement on ALL UNITS FOR FREE is really powerful
I KNOW RIGHT I LOVE THAT WONDER
Boats are already fast enough
Dose the +1 movement count for all units or just land units because if it dose great lighthouse is pointless
@@PotatoMcWhiskey You realise that +1 movement counts for embarked units too right? That's the real value of the Great Lighthouse if you ask me. Builders, Apostles, Naval Landings, it makes everything you do around the coast run so much smoother and faster, especially early game.
Aye potato you got 100k! Congrats!
Can't wait to see you play this civ! Love it and the design on Bolivar is great
Thanks for another great breakdown! Excited to play these new civs. I think the Maya will help me do a better job of planning, since I’ll only have a limited area to work with. Then I think I’ll take Gran Colombia on a domination run. Thanks again; I’ve really looked forward to your content while stuck at home in isolation.
This civ looks Awesome! I really cant wait for them to come out. I would really like it if you play Gran Colombia first😁
15:29 units are moving together, if that is added then that is a cool feature.
At the end you can see the cavalry has 10 fucking movement. Yeah, this is op as fuck
A game with Scythia, Gran Colombia, Mongolia, Macedon, Sumeria, Germany... that would be something!
@Calen Crawford the Ottomans too!
Not to be overlooked...promoting Apostles without giving up any of their movement will be a slight advantage to Religious victories. Also, the Pilgrim promotion becomes even more attractive when the closest Natural Wonder is *just* a bit out of the way.
I'm super excited to try this out!
If you could get the first two GG's + hit the medieval unit early, that's:
+10 to classical units from the GG
Possibly +8 from the UU
+4 for oligarchy
That's +22 base combat strength. More than enough to one shot any archer/spearman/possibly heavy chariot, and two shot any enemy swordsman/x bowman/pikeman.
Your swordsmen would be unstoppable (nearly) until gunpowder units, and even then would still be viable.
Potato! New subscriber, and big fan here. Love your videos, man! I found you because I had a lot of fun with this game and wanted to see how far people could take it, so I googled something like, "civ 6 gameplay" and found you absolutely slaying with China. Your China run showed me how far you can take this game and I have a lot of fun watching you. You're very entertaining and knowledgable of this game! Can't wait to watch you use Gran Colombia.
We need Jose de San Martin from Argentina as a leader!
From Latin America I think the best next option is Haiti with Toussaint L'Ouverture, the greatest of the greatest general of this era
@@G博远 Haiti it isn't Latin American, it is Caribbean country. San Martin historically it's equal to Bolivar
I would really like to see either Margaret the 1st from Denmark, or a new america
@@ivandominguez7147 I understand Latin American is all countries who speak a Latin language and it is in America.
I know every nation have a unique understanding of that. I'm from Brazil, where are you from?
@@ivandominguez7147 San Martin never become president of Argentina, and after liberate Lima he backs to Europe. Argentinians have a problem with leaders to be a civ, the other popular option, Evita Peron, also never become a State chief.
Often times, a simple bonus, like +1 movement for all units, or draw 2 cards, are the strongest bonuses.
I think “lore” for this game is just called history lol
You will know he is coming when guitar boss music starts playing.
Hey potato I had conspiracies about the Mayans and Gran-Columbia the Mayans are going to be great because it’s a tall civ and dang Gran-Columbia just blew my mind. Thanks 🙏🏼 again for all of your wonderful videos.
Any civ with improvements that offer gold immediately buffs internal trade routes
I haven't been this excited for a new civ in a long time!
Also Simón Bolívar has been the most popular Modded civ for the past three games! Everyone is excited bc he always seemed like such a fantasy pick for a new civ!
OMG, potato you're at 101k subs! Congratz, man! :D
Congrats on the 100k, when does your silver YT thing get delivered?
Probably in a month or two.
This civ is all about momentum and maintaining it.
Everyone: I wanna read the history of Simon’s campaigns
Potato: *I’m excited to read about the lore*
i really enjoy how the reveal video has gran colombia fighting spain, quite fitting
It makes me happy the fact that people all around the world get interested in our history just because of this
They are definitely an A tier civ and maybe even S tier. Sounds like a Zulu domination civ but better. Also looks really fun to play.
A hacienda is like a cahokia mound/farm combo. Also, pretty sure the general killed like 2 or 3 units when it activated.
I sure hope I'll be watching one of your vids Thursday night!
Been waiting for this video all day
OP civ we'll see how long they allow it to play like this, I see a nerf coming already.
This guy feels like the new Pachacuti in terms of OP bonuses not centered around a victory type
Simón Bolívar 😍
Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Panamá and Bolivia ❤
I think a potential nerf for this civ we will see later down the line (because let's be real they sound really strong) will be some aspect of their unique unit. It's strength for a cavalry replacement just seems insane to me.
Kids a hero.... already got the analysis up! Well done, u deserve a baked potato and a wisky drink, then a vodka drink, and a cider drink 🤣😂🤣😂

Hi Potato! Spanish follower in here. So if you are struggling with the names of this civ:
Simon Bolivar is not actually pronounced in english, it would be something like...
Also, the H in hacienda isn't pronounced
This civ appears almost overpowered for domination victory. A better version of cavalry (a unit that figures in a lot of domination victories) that comes with combat bonuses plus double great general combat boosts plus the movement speed bonus across-the-board (think of your bombards moving into position that much faster): it all just ties into a hugely powerful industrial era push.
That moving after promoting will also make units the Civ version of dodge tanks. Think about it! You can tank a hit on the enemy turn, promote heal, and then get out of dodge! It will be INFURIATING to verse in multiplayer!
I think they’ll be an amazing defensive Civ. Stack up on trade routes early
Everyone: Gran Colombia is OP
Devs: *do nothing*
Me: So I have to do the a hard way
Me:*loads gun a goes back in time*
Will you livestream your first time playing with each civ?
I can’t wait to use this one
Hey Spuddy! New Civs!
Theres a podcast called "The Revolutions Podcast" which focuses on revolutions and the spanish american break away is part of it. In fact, Simon Bolivar is the red thread of the Spanish American wars of independence. Highly recommended to any history buffs out there!
This definitely seems like an interesting Civ to play. As for hearing of Simon Bolivar, he is currently one of the Great Generals in Civ 6.
I can really see how Gran Colombia can be one of the most powerful civs out there. I cannot wait to have tons of units running around the map and constantly beating the ai to settle spots. Definitely agree with your A tier rating but honestly, I can see if they become S tier after some gameplay.
I remember seeing Bolivar in Age of Empires 3 in the campaign. Can't wait.
1:25 José Félix Ribas killing 5 units
2:20 Potato being dubios about the CG's kill skill
Potato: it requires you to have plantations which nobody has time for
I just won w this Civ - they are INSANELY OP.
A glorious 17:20 minutes of analysis. It would be interesting to see where this Civ rests among the other domination civs.
