The X-T3 is 90% the video camera the GH5 is. The GH5 is 70% the stills camera the X-T3 is. If you really need an hybrid camera - one that excels at both video and stills - the conclusion is pretty obvious.
The gh5 is in my opinion 50% the stills camera the Fuji is. Nobody ever reviews the gh5 and says wow great stills performer where on the other hand fuji is known for stills they just happen to throw an insane video camera into the package. In terms of video I would argue that the larger sensor in the Fuji is better than the gh5. I understand there is no chroma subsampling but that sort of thing is irrelevant unless you work with green screens.
Good video comparison. Fuji with a cheap external monitor is worth the price. Flip out is so tiny on the Pano -hard to tell if you actually have focus!
In all honesty, these are not cheap cameras, so you have to expect they will both be good. As said in the video, it comes down to personal preference, but either camera should give you quality video. As a guy who shoots all his videos by himself, it really helps to have a flip screen so you can frame a shot when you're shooting video of yourself. So that's a consideration. There's nothing worse than shooting a series of clips, only to find out you weren't properly in frame or you were out of focus. Then you have no choice but to do them again. (doh!)
I totally agree with you, for the price both should be darn good (and thankfully they are) and there is nothing better then the convience of having a built in monitor. I hate having to drag all that extra stuff with me when I'm out at about.
Very nice comparison, well done. It's amazing to me how great Panasonic AF is in stills mode compared to how bad it is in video mode. The Fuji system has some of the most amazing lenses (yes they are expensive) but I love my Fuji System. As far a overall features NO ONE packs more features into a camera than Panasonic hands down. I have the G85 which is GH4 like but less expensive. The XT-3 may be my Christmas gift to myself to compliment my XT-20. Cheers.
I'm toying with this right now as well. I feel emotionally drawn to the XT3, but I think the GH5 is the right move with the IBIS and unlimited record time since I'm doing mostly filming podcasts.
If only X-T3 came with in-body stabilization... BTW, I don't think you said which camera is a keeper if you have to choose between one or the other? Also, I'd love to see you do a review of both cameras on DJI Ronin S.
I agree! I'm struggeling right now on if I'm going to buy one of my own, there isn't much out there that would pull me away from my GH5 but darn the XT3 is putting up a fight.

With the xt3 you must use a monopod, tripod or a gimble. No exceptions. The Gh5 wins hands down by default. Most videographers are masters of manual focus anyway. I love the specs and color science of the xt3 but fuji could have made this decision easier with stabilization.

I'd take the sensor size, colour science and great auto focus for gimbal work over in body stabilisation any day of the week.
I ended up choosing the GH5S, which is basically an ASPC size sensor. The AF is definitely a little better than the GH5, it has an upgraded tracking system. I've heard this new firmware update is going to make a legit difference, we shall see :-)

Still thinking of saving for a used gh5, flippy and stabilization, and...there is yet another stabilization update coming in October for the Gh5 I think I read, so maybe that tweak with the other tweak will be something you can live with focusing wise. (plus I already have 3 panasonic lenses, which makes the decision easier. But.....that Fuji still looks fantabulous!
Yeah I'm currently going through this decision. I think I'm going to end up keeping my GH5 (which I also bought used) it just ticks more of the boxes of what I need. But the fuji keeps calling to me and its going to be a tough day when I have to send it back.

Hands down the Gh5 is the clear winner. IBS and chroma sub sampling at 4:2:2 internally gives you better image quality and color. The xt3 is 4:2:0 internally and this is worse than not having IBS.
I think they are both great and it depends on what you need in the camera. I REALLY like the GH5 but I personally need good autofocus in video, but I also like the stabilization. I just wish a camera had it all together.

It was very worth it since the xt3 is much better at still photography and pretty comparable to the GH5 video. For lenses I have the 56mm F1.2 and the 18-50mm F2.8. Great quality lenses but both over $600. My next one will be the 50-140mm F2.8. I think those three lenses will have me covered for my uses. Good luck!
Frozn Fire The FLog on the Fuji is comprable to the VLog on the GH5. Colors straight out the Fuji camera are amazing. The IBIS is no issue for me since I always use a gimbal if I need steady video. GH5 is more for professional videographers which I'm not.
I have a GH5 and can say it's an excellent camera but it has a few problems, one is the image noise levels are much higher than the X-T3, another is the mic input is rubbish, the audio recorded externally via it's mic input is average at it's very best. The X-T3 has far better image quality than the GH5 and the lower image noise levels mean it's a way better camera to use at night as well as in the day. Plus image quality is photos on the GH5 are good but that's it, not excellent. The X-T3 photos are excellent. One thing I hate about the X-T3 and also X-T30 is the lack of buttons, I like the GH5 having so many buttons you can assign functions to.
You definitely have a flare for tv hosting and you could do even more out in the city or nature, I think. I happen to have an XT3 for 5 months now and it's been a joy! Much better for stills than the Pana, incredible autofocus and full of possibilities and combinations for video, great F-log INCLUDED in the price of the unit and very easy to grade . However, the stabilization of the gh5 is a wonder for a hobbyist like me even if for stills is irrelevant. I think the only real hybrid is the Fuji.The Pana is an excellent one trick pony video king but is also significantly more expensive, at least in Europe, which is a thing to consider...
Im a portrait photographer and i wanna start making videos, i dont know if i should buy the gh5 with a 12-60mm or a fuji xt3 or xt30 with the kit lens. With fuji i can buy a ronin sc for stabilizing the video or i can buy just a gh5. What would you choose??

Wow! You sure are releasing them early this week. I'm just now on my first cup of coffee. Sorry, but I hated that chirping music that went through the better part of the video. It was just very distracting for me. The image quality seemed richer from the gh5 but auto focus was just awesome on the xt3. Will anybody make the perfect camera? If they do I hope you find it and share it with us.
Yeah I'm trying out an earlier release schedule to see if anything different happens on the channel. I dont think anyone will ever make a perfect camera, but darn I really wish they would!

The Everyday Dad I currently have the Panasonic G85, I use for on the go vlogging with the Panasonic 7-14mm. I want to upgrade. Money is not a issue for my decision but which would would be better in your opinion for upgrading purposes. The GH5 or the G9?
@@JoDroPro if i can see my opinion, g85 to g9 is not a so great update in terms of video capabilities. If you want to remain in Panasonic, and money is not a problem, then choose between Gh5 and Gh5s, it depends on what you want from your camera body, if you use it also for photos, if you use it with a gimbal or handheld and so on... ;)
Both are pretty good but generally I don’t let the camera do the heavy lifting for audio. If you can let your microphone do the work you can turn the internal camera recording almost all the way down.

Oh yeah the GH5 is still one of the (if not the ) best cameras out there for online video. Its biggest weakness is autofocus but I use the phone app to get around it. Honestly there isn't much out there right now that would pull me away from it...except this darn XT3 that I like way too much! And thanks so much I really appreciate the support!

I own the XT-3 but the camera is not very user friendly for video (IQ is great thought), the GH5 ergonomy seems so much better when i have it in my hand, + this shutter angle...I think the GH5 is a better video camera, but the lenses are too expensive.

Sharper or more sharp, but that aside they should be comparable. From what I know neither are downsampling and both have 400-450mbps 10 bit 4k, they should be both tack sharp.

I've tried two saramonics preamps on the fuji XT-3, none of them works, I don't know what to do with this camera.

fuji xt-3 vs sony a7 iii please.
I own the XT-3 but the camera is not very user friendly for video (IQ is great thought), the GH5 ergonomy seems so much better when i have it in my hand, + this shutter angle...I think the GH5 is a better video camera, but the lenses are too expensive.
The horrible GH5 autofocus is simply inexcusable. What was panasonic thinking? "yeah its absolute shit. SHIP IT."

I personally think the XT3 is waaaay better then the 6500. I've used both and the XT3 is a phenomenal camera.

i’ve been shooting with the a6000 and a6300 for the last 2 years, i’m now upgrading to the xt3, it is the absolute best camera i need for my purposes

Sharper or more sharp, but that aside they should be comparable. From what I know neither are downsampling and both have 400-450mbps 10 bit 4k, they should be both tack sharp.

@@leecason9468 Difference is that Fuji has h265 400 mbs, which is like 700-800 mbs in h264 on the pana, but more taxing to editing computer.

Great video. Question. What lens do you normally use on your GH5 when your in front of the camera?
Idk what he uses, but the 42.5 1.8 is my favorite photo lens or super bokeh for video lens. And it's stabilized. And the 12mm rokinon are great too
