Discovery Princess Full Review & Ship Tour 2023 - Princess Cruises Newest Ship! Premium Cruise Line?

- Launched in 2022 Discovery Princess is the newest cruise ship from Carnival-owned cruise line, Princess Cruises. This is my honest customer review, sailing on this ship from Los Angeles in 2023. I'm not a celebrity or a travel agent, I'm just a guy that likes to cruise! Cruising can be done in different ways, and I've sailed before on other premium cruise lines like Celebrity and Holland America, so I was interested in doing a comparison between them and Princess.

I was sailing on a 4 day round trip cruise from Los Angeles, visiting San Diego and Ensenada in Mexico. This was a special 80s Themed West Coast getaway. The Eighties are my favorite decade, and clearly lots of other people agreed!
We sailed from the Los Angeles World Cruise Center, which regularly handles Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and Princess. Carnival sales from nearby Long Beach itself.
We stayed in a Deluxe Balcony cabin, just a little bigger and a little more expensive than the regular balcony staterooms. We mostly ate in the Main Dining Room, which was good sometimes and often very slow for service.
What did this cruise cost?
For a deluxe balcony cabin, the total price for 2 people was $1250 including tax. We added on Princess Plus which took the total price to $1730.
This was an eighties themed cruise! What did that mean for entertainment? The main thing were some 80s tribute bands like Journey and Bon Jovi. There were also 80s themed trivia, and a dance class to learn the Thriller dance. A lot of people were there just for a normal cruise, and if you hadn't been looking you probably wouldn't even notice. There definitely were a decent number of people onboard because it was 80s themed, but you could usually tell them apart from everyone else because they'd be wearing a jazzy colored shirt, an MTV t-shirt, and sometimes, a mullet wig!
Discovery Princess is based in Los Angeles, where she goes on Mexican Riviera itineraries, and spends the Summer in Alaska, including Seattle and Vancouver.
Discovery Princess is Royal Class ship. Other ships in that class include Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess, and Royal Princess.

Twice you mentioned that you were waiting on drinks, and this is my biggest issue with Princess Cruises, they don't have real bartenders. They have people that can follow a recipe and pour a drink, but they don't have people that can service a busy bar. Combined with the ticket system and they end up making one drink at a time, and rather slowly, to the point that my family all ordered two drinks at a time this past July on the Ruby. But honestly, I have no clue if other cruise lines do it better, but it seems like an easy fix. That being said, I just booked a 7 day cruise on the Discovery in March. :) Nice vid!

We took our first Princess cruise in November of 2022 and have our next one for February 2024. You did such a good and well-balanced video here. Our experience was very similar to yours. I just love your pacing and overall delivery.

This is by far our most favorite ship of all the cruises and ships we’ve done. We sailed in feb 2022 to the 5 day in Cabo and We were sold after that. Now we’re doing the 7 day Mexican Riviera and the 15 day Hawaii all in the next 6 weeks. I’m so freaking excited! For the Mexico one we have the deluxe balcony and for Hawaii we were able to get a mini suite for a great deal!

Excellent, calm presentation. It appears as though all of the buffet items are labeled. We have cruised both Princess and Celebrity. Princess is our go to however.

Yes Discovery Princess has a sushi bar for extra cost. I show it in the video.
I was happy to find the HP sauce as well.

Beginning of video weather was great now it getting cold 😮
Man I'm glad you had a better experience. We just took the cruise sep 3rd food was blan. Desserts were delicious and bread but that's it. Buffet was crazy the whole time couldn't find a place to sit on either side had to ask people to sit with them. Get your seat first or your food will be cold. Third night our state room filled with a sewage smell all night long! Had to sleep with balcony door opened to breath. Call service desk they said they knew and were working on it. Next morning the called to see if it was gone it was but we didn't sleep all night and I got severely sick for the last 3 days. You could smell the sewage smell throughout the cruise in different areas. Gigis was good. First day people trying to sell you stuff is annoying and one staff member tried to sell an upgrade she said total would be 200 total then when we went to sign it was 280. We said forget it. Not a good first cruise experience.
Oh no! I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope this doesn't put you off cruising for good.
I think you'll find that the balcony space is more about what cabin type, and/or deck you are on than what cruise line you are on.

Thanks for video, I like Princess and Celebrity but the latter is getting very uppity with their pricing these days. In fact I do not think we will be able to afford them again, plus when in the booking mode online, at the end there seems to be a huge upgrade price to pay if one wants a refundable deposit. I won’t have that, so c’est fini. I won’t ever visit a zoo, aquarium or anywhere that keeps animals prisoner for monetary gain. Visits just encourage them. Sanctuaries are different. Thx again. Where is your accent from, my friend from Londonderry, N.Ireland says “food” as “fudd” like you. Sorry but it is not “gi gi’s” as in the kids’ name for horses, but the French soft G, like an “sh” sound. The older ships have the name Alfredo’s, and up until this year it was free. Damn nuisance.
