What's a good way to keep from having a death grip on my horn ? When I am aware of it I relax my grip. I'm a 70 year old who plays flute and tenor sax. Except for the lessons I've taken advantage of on TH-cam I am self taught. I can use all the help I can get. Thank you.

Im a beginner at woodwind, however one thing that helps me from gripping to much on my intruments is holding them without playing them and just practice moving my fingers and making sure theyre relaxed, I also do this away from my intruments and I do hand stretches every morning. Also i practice holdng them as softly as possible. When im playing I imagine my limbs as rivers of energy that are flowing free without any blockages into the instrument , it really helps me focus on keeping everything relaxed. I hope my comment was useful in some way!

Daniel Wierciński honestly I went through this too (I’ve been playing the sax for 8 years). It just gets better over time. Just keep playing :)

how you improve playing a stuffy middle d

That's a GREAT question. Super common for most horns to have a stuff middle D. Make sure your embouchure isn't biting on the reed, and is giving the reed as much freedom to vibrate as possible. And make sure you're using a good breath. The main way to remove stuffiness though comes from your voicing (shape of your throat). Think about saying AWWW or AHHHH because that opens your throat and relaxes your vocal cords, and you should have more freedom. Let me know how it works for you! Talk soon, Ben Marcoux
