very helpful im sure someday mr.collins is going to teach me how to stand when playing the saxophone right now im a beginner i started in late march i play alto as well
Unlike Ralph, this guy can at least play a musical instrument.
A Buick with a steering wheel and molasses can we see a picture or an update on this saxophone that you speak of lol because that's going to make it interesting content you should invite him over make a dual video
Happy New Year, buddy, won't you give me some tips how to improve breathing and blowing ???
Нi buddy, what's your name? What type of reeds are more easy for sax beginning players like me?
Нi, Im a sax beginning player I wonder how can I choose right reed for me???
Awesome man!
Thanks for the tips. Will be looking for more. Subscribed.
a very nice tenor sax solo
You look like Bruce Banner (Hulk hero)
Thanks!! I play an old M V1 Selmer bari. I play every weekend. My Bari loves my JDX Jazz mouthpiece,,it sounds good where I play, but the concrete floor and the metal roof truns it muddy... I found a Brilhart Special Mouthpiece, it plays smooth and quiet, the people working there said it sounds good.. so..its my throat that needs to do most the work , I needed a refresher corse.. Thank you very much ! Bill, JoyfullSounds...

Sincerely, thank you. This is the first video I found on your channel.
keep it up great job!
this was very helpful thank you!
Great player. I remember him very much with BR Big Band.
I play flute. Then alto sax. Then Bb clarinet. I always have to use plasticover reeds and a rovner ligature.
What's a good way to keep from having a death grip on my horn ? When I am aware of it I relax my grip. I'm a 70 year old who plays flute and tenor sax. Except for the lessons I've taken advantage of on TH-cam I am self taught. I can use all the help I can get. Thank you.
Im a beginner at woodwind, however one thing that helps me from gripping to much on my intruments is holding them without playing them and just practice moving my fingers and making sure theyre relaxed, I also do this away from my intruments and I do hand stretches every morning. Also i practice holdng them as softly as possible. When im playing I imagine my limbs as rivers of energy that are flowing free without any blockages into the instrument , it really helps me focus on keeping everything relaxed. I hope my comment was useful in some way!
Can you make a video on how to relax our thumbs? I am a beginner, and because don't know how to relax, I squeeze the horn so hard with my fingers and thumbs, my thumbs hurt really bad.
When you get used to the weight of your instrument, your fingers are gonna be more relaxed and flexible but you'll need time too to get used to the weight.
You look like Mark Ruffalo
Thank you so much for sharing a good lesson
hey baby you had a little slip up :)
Looks like you have a Conn 10M, which were some of the best saxes ever made, so that's why it sounds so good
Ok what the FUCK was that editing job? He really uploaded this without deleting that first outtake? Makes no sense
Hi was a good video i did like your opinion . Can you make a review on sax that come from aliexpress. No one do . i did buy a Yas reproduct by KALUOLIN. I did not received it yet. that would be cool to hear what you think about those reproduction and how is the playing of the instrument. thanks .... just a request :)
Would you please offer suggestions on playing "Ghost Notes". Thank-you. ...peace & blessings... George H White III expandinghorizons02@yahoo.com
I like your sound. Also, I just listened to one of your lessons. Does your band get paid for what you guys do? Who am I? I am a 38-year old musician with about two years of experience on the alto sax.
hey dwight its todd do you still play and if you do what kind of music do you play on the saxophone because i turned 40 on february 16th and ive been practicing since late march i play folk music out of my alto saxophone book next thursday i play a duet with my teacher mr.collins and i play a song by mozart in class i want to learn how to play rock and roll songs like billy vera billy joel george thorogood stuff like that
@@toddlaber2325 I have recently traded in my alto sax for a french horn.
I'd add....buy from a known musical instrument shop. One used by working musicians. Stay away from "ethnic owned shops". By that I mean if you're Chinese don't buy from a Chinese shop. They usually sell "b-stock" and brands you've never heard of. In some cases "knock-offs". Don't buy from a friend "who knows somebody" Or the back of of "white van". :) Ask the teacher where to go (assuming the teacher is from a respected institution and you didn't get the name off some board at a YMCA or a park bench). In Toronto "qualified" teachers would be found at The Royal Conservatory Of Music. There's a standard they must pass to be teaching there. I'm sure there are many like this all over the US. Check out the credentials of the teacher. Did the sax teacher major in music at UCLA? Where did he or she get his or her training? Ask in the forums which shops to go to in your city (if you're unsure of the credentials of your teacher...who probably didn't get the best sax from a respectable source...possibly).
How not to play soprano sharp??
Kool
Mistake!!! Cool not kool
'Animal' in tone is what we really want from a Saxophone - that is what they are for
Saxophone is one of the most versatile instrument even made. It can play almost any voice; to force saxophone into 'fattest jazz' sound means putting a serious limitation on the instrument, and serious misunderstanding on the music.
This is the coolest explanation I’ve ever heard!! Thanks a lot!!
You mentioned that you use the ha , when playing bottom Bb to G , and the E when going from middle G to G , does this mean that you would use these voicings every time you play these notes ?
Either you are very tall or that ceiling is very low.
Aim the air down towards the right thumb? Could you please elaborate on this a bit?
When you blow into the horn imagine blowing directly at your right thumb where you’re holding the saxophone.
Good stuff, thanks. Any tips on avoiding biting the lower lip too much especially as the embouchure gets a little tired?
I play clarinet and sax. Definitely want to learn flute.
Hi, great stuff! I am a beginner and i have a problem with hurting thumb in right hand lifting the weight of saxophone. How to avoid this?
Daniel Wierciński honestly I went through this too (I’ve been playing the sax for 8 years). It just gets better over time. Just keep playing :)
Wow. I had to sub to you :P
Hey thanks for the video, its hard for me to test different Saxaphones cause I live on Maui and we have no such store here where I can do that. I have a question, I bought a Tenor Sax Yamaha Yts-200ii paid like $1,500 for it, the sax repair guy tried it and said it was a great horn, whatever that means but what I ended up doing is I bought a $300 Claude Lakey metal mauthpiece with some rubber guards. It's definitly a different sound but it takes more breath to play it and since I'm a beginner I run out of breath faster now but oh well, nevertheless, I still enjoy it. Here is my problem, those rubber mouthpiece guards get cut by my top teeth so easily that I always end up with rubber pieces in my mouth and always having to replace the rubber mouth guards. I'm surprised that they don't sell any other material such as; leather, etc.. mouthpiece guards so you can rest your teeth on. I called wwbw and they said "tuff luck buddy" I mean, am I really the only one complaining about this??
Gera K You might try using clear packing tape, cut to fit, over the teeth protector mouthpiece patches.
You are chewing too hard. Curl your upper lip a bit under the teeth, it will tame your bad habit. I suggest you go to a saxophone teacher, or even a good clarinet teacher, to teach you how to hold the instrument in your mouth.
I look up random music from MuseScore and practice it until I get it right
"like the queen of England" hahaha...good one
Great !! Video,thank very much !!
thank you!
Took u seriously until u played that one note. Fer fecks sake ye just cant go PATHAAAAAARGH like that!
fantastic.
fantastic.
Diaphragm descends during inhalation, and relaxes during exhalation and your pressure comes from your abdominal muscles. Diaphragm doesn't work on exhalation. thanks.
is it supposed to hurt a tiny bit at first? and do always have to push out your diafram when you play, as in always have a fat belly, great advice by the way
or is this just to strengthen your diafram
