No... If you're following the news, you know the switch chips are in a size/format that no one really makes anymore. There are better, more powerful chips that use less energy... And they're cheaper than continuing to make the old chips.
@@wompus_king I was corrected elsewhere, too - basically, I hadn't heard that the "new X1" that was being rumoured for a new Shield was also a die-shrink. I'd been under the impression it was still a 20nm chip with just a minor stepping change, but you're right, it's quite likely a 16nm die-shrink because TSMC doesn't really want to be making 20nm stuff anymore. "There are better more powerful chips that use less energy" is true, but that's not quite what's happening here. The Lite will just be the same chip on a smaller node. The newer Tegras that are officially out there have different specs that would complicate compatibility, having different CPU configurations especially.
a pair of joycons are $80, that's almost half the price of the new switch lite. That really makes you think about how much money goes into just the joycons themselves.

I hope the Switch lite and regular Switch will get screen tethering as a successor to DS download play so you can play on multiple screens with one game cart.
If you own only a switch mini, you wouldn’t buy joy cons for player 2 since you couldn’t charge them without spending even more money for the joycon grip charger.
@Goose well the dock itself is expensive for some reason and people need to know that it would probably overheat if you connected it to a tv. that's why you can't do it, because they've constructed it and focused it on being for handheld play only and make that experience the best they can. while the switch is a hybrid and is ok at both the tv and handheld
Mario Odyssey has 2 moons that require HD Rumble, and Super Mario Party and 1-2 Switch literally require a single joycon. And that's the entirety of my concerns with this thing. I think this is a great idea
I mean, Pokemon is just around the corner so of course this makes sense; it's clearly meant for kids. Plus Japanese audiences will prefer it due to portability
Yeah, the Japanese audience does a lot of commuting for work and they like to get together for games like MH, so this is perfect for them and us in the west who do a similar thing.
Me too! I want to have both as an option to take with me on the go. As a student, I’m very scared of my switch on the go and be stolen. This is a fun way to not only have 2 switches but have my bases covered.
me too! unfortunately, I can't buy my own games because I'm 12, so not likely for me, but it would be cool to get this one. I once got a 2DS along with my New 3DS XL, so it would be a nice thing to continue doing.
Labo will mostly work with the Switch Lite, you just can't put the system inside of your build (so in Labo VR, you can't use the VR feature, but the Minigames are still playable). Of course you need to buy Joy Cons and the charging grip.
No HD rumble: I can live No “switch” : I can use a third party thing to project it to my monitor or tv (without the improved frame rate and visuals though) I can live IF THEY HAD NO GYRO, I WOULD NOT BUY! Sidenote: I think a special lite dock might actually be in development for the future. The lite has the cut outs the normal switch has for a dock (the two holes at the bottom and the little divot on the back). Nintendo likely doesn’t want to confuse consumers cause then they need to buy a controller too, which then totals to more than a regular switch.
Spirit Flame In April Fools Gamexplain made a fake reveal of F-Zero Space Adventure (they took it down when April Fools ended). In gamexplain there is a long running joke of hiding Captain Falcon somewhere in the thumbnail. This time they added the Space Adventure for it.
Here is an idea. Have the switch lite be able to connect with the regular switch and have it be like a Wii U game pad. Then we can create and play on Mario Maker 2 more effectively and maybe have DS and 3DS games in the store.
I love how much cheaper this is and that it's smaller/more portable. The Switch is just way too big, imo. I do kind of wish the Lite was even smaller, though... It's also nice that it has the D-Pad.
At 4:23 if that functionality is actually implemented somehow I’m completely sold. I can use my regular Switch for at home use and the Switch Lite when I go out somewhere. And also I like how this Switch is launching the same day with a Zelda title.
I used to buy physical copies but after buying a lot of indie games on the e-shop and being able to change them without swapping the game cartdriges... omg... I only buy digital copies now.
I just really hope that we can be able to transfer our data from the Switch to the Switch Lite. I already own a Switch and already have a variety of games, so being able to put all my data on the Switch Lite would be awesome!
So is Sony. Nintendo doesn't make the majority of it sales in Japan and never will. Handhelds sell well everywhere, being based in Japan doesn't have anything to do with it.
I think the thing people need to realise is that if they're getting annoyed at the existence of the Switch Lite, they are definitely not the target audience of this device. It's not a fully featured Switch and they aren't trying to push that idea, it's a cheaper, smaller more child friendly Switch, this is basically aimed at people who either don't have the money for a full Switch, or more likely parents who could not justify the cost of getting a full priced Switch for their kid.
@@Th1boi you can play it as an adult, primarily it is aimed at people who want a cheaper switch and don't care about lacking features. if you care about the lack of specific features then it isn't the switch for you.
My roommates constantly play in tabletop mode with either a 3rd party stand or leaned against random things. I do think a good number of Switch Lite users will play with an external controller at times, maybe even pro controller
@Alan Bane i don't get your point. My comment was directed at them saying No one plays that way/how akward it is to think about table top mode. Most Switch Lite users will use it in handheld mode but I can easily see times where table top is preferred.
all i can say is they better have fixed the stick drift problem joycons have. Joycons are WAAAAY cheaper to replace than the entire console. If this thing has the same issue Nintendo is gonna feel a lot of hate thrown at them.
I'm getting the Switch Lite because it's exactly what I've been looking for. A pure handheld console. I like the regular Switch, however don't really care about the features of playing on the TV as I already got a PS4. Don't see the point of having 2 television consoles. It's more compact, looks more sturdy and durable. Only also want to really play Specific Nintendo exclusives. Feel like I'm missing out.
This is perfect for families with multiple kids. That way parents won't have to buy their kids multiple standard Switch models if they can't share one (for whatever reason).
Actually if your like me and you have mostly digital and all your kids play all your games then it sucks. I am not rebuying 60+ games just so they can each play on their own switch. Until Nintendo comes up with a good family sharing account system where my kids are tied to my account and library then I will not be buying more than 1 switch.
@@iownalx23 I think it still has the notch on the back by the power port. You could probably still use the adjustable charging stand as a kickstand for it.

If you want a Switch Lite that hooks up to the TV just get a normal Switch.
@Goose well the dock itself is expensive for some reason and people need to know that it would probably overheat if you connected it to a tv. that's why you can't do it, because they've constructed it and focused it on being for handheld play only and make that experience the best they can. while the switch is a hybrid and is ok at both the tv and handheld
no, I want switch *without* the handheld... just a console, no screen, no dock, no bullshit... _Nintendo BAIT_ (as in bait and switch)
if the switch lite has the same problems with the controls that the joycons have there is gonna be a lot of "broken" systems
They hopefully won't. Nintendo has acknowledge the drifting multiple times npw and you'd think they'd take that into account when they make the Lite.
Mario Odyssey has 2 moons that require HD Rumble, and Super Mario Party and 1-2 Switch literally require a single joycon.
And that's the entirety of my concerns with this thing. I think this is a great idea
Im sure that Nintendo will somehow update that to work with the Switch Mini.
Matt Wolf on their website it said that games that need tv mode won’t work :/
The game has 5 billion moons. Who cares about 2...
2 moons over 999 moons. You can still use an video guide/walkthrough if you want to 100% the game.
Mario has specific animations when he's close to a moon so it's still solvable.
I mean, Pokemon is just around the corner so of course this makes sense; it's clearly meant for kids. Plus Japanese audiences will prefer it due to portability
I think us here in the West and the rest of the world will also find use for its portablility.
Yeah, the Japanese audience does a lot of commuting for work and they like to get together for games like MH, so this is perfect for them and us in the west who do a similar thing.
In fact, the most selling console is the Switch in Japan. It is a good thing to give them a cheaper option just to have it.

Okay but that Pokemon Sword/Shield Switch Lite is beautiful.
Labo will mostly work with the Switch Lite, you just can't put the system inside of your build (so in Labo VR, you can't use the VR feature, but the Minigames are still playable). Of course you need to buy Joy Cons and the charging grip.

No HD rumble: I can live
No “switch” : I can use a third party thing to project it to my monitor or tv (without the improved frame rate and visuals though) I can live
IF THEY HAD NO GYRO, I WOULD NOT BUY!
Sidenote: I think a special lite dock might actually be in development for the future. The lite has the cut outs the normal switch has for a dock (the two holes at the bottom and the little divot on the back). Nintendo likely doesn’t want to confuse consumers cause then they need to buy a controller too, which then totals to more than a regular switch.
it has gyro
They said that there wouldn't be IR Motion. There will still be gryo controls.
OMG, F-Zero Space Adventure is the thumbnail!
Just a weird edit they did for the thumbnail. Nintendo has not made an image that looks like that.

Doubt thatll work.
That’s what I said! But there is few people that would have two Switches, so they wouldn’t do that

Apparently portable gaming is way more popular in Japan
NickyD I think he’s alluding to the fact that Japan prefers mobile/handheld gaming.
So is Sony. Nintendo doesn't make the majority of it sales in Japan and never will. Handhelds sell well everywhere, being based in Japan doesn't have anything to do with it.
If we could use the Switch Lite as a separate controller for the standard Switch, I would be sold 😅

Now my broke ass friends can finally get a switch in time to trade Pokemon

Most Switch Lite users will use it in handheld mode but I can easily see times where table top is preferred.

Joycons are WAAAAY cheaper to replace than the entire console. If this thing has the same issue Nintendo is gonna feel a lot of hate thrown at them.
