1thess523 "Math rock is a rhythmically complex, often guitar-based, style of experimental rock and indie rock." Source: Wikipedia. In short, that is how it was explained to me by local mathrock/indie/jazz musicians growing up. Also, I think emo was coined by pop-bands but I could be wrong.
So it's just technical in other words. I remember back in about 2000 I was talking to this guy and we were talking about music and he mentions "shoegazer" so i thought he was talking about a band I liked called Shoegazer and so I continued talking about them until I noticed he looked confused so I asked him it he was talking about the same band and he said no that a band he saw was a "shoegazer" band, so I ask him what the heck was a shoegazer band and he told me a band that plays real slow music and they play with their heads down looking at their shoes. I had to laugh, I know in my day the Emo scene was coined that because the music was more "emotional" and style wise was slower to mid tempo stuff like Hot Water Music,Jimmy Eat World,Hey Mercedes,The Get Up Kids, etc. As far as current day "emo" i think kids replaced the goth label with emo and added some mtv pop bands. I remember my old pastor saying "emo" kids and I was like he knows about EMO music but he was talking about the goth kids cutting themselves. Funny how times change names but everything is prettyy much the same thing just with a new label.
1thess523 More or less. I have not seen the word shoegaze since I was in high school! Lol. When I used to get my music from Purevolume or MySpace. Those bands you mentioned, I would not categorize in "emo" but instead, pop-punk. Look up: Owls, CapnJazz, circle takes square, those are just a few that I can recall that my buddy put in the emo genre; it is similar to mathrock as far as rhythm or melodies. Exactly, man. It's just someone labeling something or someone. I have read some bands' bios and they said themselves they don't consider themselves mathrock but again, lots of people are calling them that. I guess it's up to the artist to declare what they are. I think "hipster" has replaced emo. Would you agree?
Yeah CapnJazz is an emo band but i never listened to them, Pop Punk bands were bands like Screeching Weasel, old Blink,Old Green Day, Everready,The Parasites,Digger just to name a very few. Ah Purevolume used to be a good outlet for new music and I don't know if you remember how some people came about Purevolume, I used to go to this site called MP3.Com and get a ton of music but they shut down and referred me to a new site called PUREVOLUME. and yes I agree with the hipster replacing emo haha, i am glad I have never followed fads, I tell my three children (14,16,21) if you don't follow fads you will never look back and say "man i looked stupid" and neither will I. Take care and God bless

The years haven't been kind worn down by regret
So take hope theres still enough of what made this young man left
All that once was is not quite gone
Gone yea
I wish I could tap like that
this is so amazing, ttng have been one of my biggest musical inspirations, this song is flawless :)
Always come back to this. Beautiful song, excellent execution. One of my favourite bands.
3 musicians doing the work of 5 musicians.
Every time I see this video it's like the first time. I'm always impressed by everything.
Mathrock
Why is it called "Math Rock", back in the 90's it would have just been called EMO (no mtv crap emo but REAL EMO)
I've been jamming Animals on CD in my car for months, and I deliver in my car. I listen to the whole album like 3 times a day.
I love finding links to things. Obviously I mean how things in life fit together. Today, Audiotree found a link for me between my long time favorite bands, Syd Arthur and TTNG. I swear I feel like I'm in some sort of 4th dimension right now!
Like how 2 2D lines are just lines? then you view from above (3rd) and you can see how they were actually 2 visible edges of a triangle?
I don't know how to explain, but I just found this band and started listening it 2 days back ☹❤, and i love everything about it already !!
The studio version was impressive but the live is even better
So much to this song, Tim Collis' playing is amazing... Henry on the bass is also doing a stellar job on the Bass VI and singing... This is great! Way better than the studio version. The guitarrist looks a lot like an old friend of mine, and it reminds me of him too. This song is so bittersweet and complex, it's just perfect, and it really gets to my heart everytime. Thanks for the music, and thanks for the session. TTNG and Audiotree are two of my favourite things in one.
It's an aftermarket modded Jag bass but close enough.
@@CastilloinaSpeedo Yup! I've seen Hank's vid on it! Still a Bass VI type of instrument :P
this... is the guy from pennines right? sounds exactly like him.
Yes it is.
thanks audiotree. keep spread out good bands and musics. love from indonesia
sitting here never heard of TTNG before and im listening to this damn near crying. dammit why did I mess up again. I don't think she's coming back this time :/
same
it gets better, just keep trucking
@@Gofaw just when you're in it, feels like any sort of hope is a ridiculous notion
@@christophercox8927 It feels that way bro, not gonna lie and say it's easy, but bad times always pass, just count your blessings and remind yourself what you still have, not what you've lost. Hope things get better for you brother 🤙
Getting to see this live was a blessing
3:30 wtf Henry, you just invented a new note
It's a G-flat. I wonder if that was done on purpose
It's a G flat, out of tune, he's just human lol. Audiotree live sessions are almost always without any tuning or editing from what I see. That was the only noticeable flaw in his performance though, which is impressive.
it sounds like it fits to me, I always assumed it was intentional
@@thunderclap113 the beauty of music my friend.
Also it isn't odd to do a note out of tune, from a relating scale etc. Just ask jazz music
Love the "Our Returning Champion" by Stapleton riff Hank plays on the bass at 4:49
Fuck. These guys are good. Perfect style of playing
Discovered this video a couple of months ago. I watch it every time YT suggests me to watch it, and the more I watch it, the more I find it in the suggested videos.
Now I can say I watch it at least once a day.
I FUCKING LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE. The guitarist is God, the drummer is a machine and the vocals are so expressive and the lyrics are awesome.
I can say without any doubt that this is one of my favourite songs of all time.
Hope to see them live in Italy sooner or later.
glad to see they support the 2nd ammendment
lol
I'm old now. Been a while. Good stuff
Every towns music scene has mathrock dudes that were primarily inspired by ttng
This is the best I've heard Henry's voice, doesn't seem like he's shy
I miss "PA PAAAAAAAA PA PAAAAAA"
PPPAPPP PAAAA PPAPPP PAAA PAPPP PAAAAAAA
And the piano arrangements.
To me, new to this band, please explain this comment :) it somehow rings a bell..
The best version of this song 🙌🏼
2:31 is my jam
i can't stop listening to this version. it's so damn good
This is awesome. Love watching Tim's hands up close his guitar playing is fuckin next level. I like Henry a lot, but he's no Stu :(
They're different, that's what makes them unique... To me, both are geniuses.
Absolutely stunning.
What once was is not quite gone yet.
truly an amazing song, from the words to the guitar playing. just outstanding.
yesterday still rings in my ear, like LIGHTERS and PICKS this mess we're in dissolves in time
Ciao Nico.
Man i wish this band would get back together. One of the top math rock bands for me
they're just on a hiatus, they haven't split
that twinkly part always kills me at 4:07
Oh God
I came
^ XD
This is just such a magical performance.
